"You know Darren, if you would have told me twenty-five years ago that some day I'd be standing here about to solve the world's energy problems, I would've said you're crazy... Now let's push this giant ball of oil out the window."

/first thing that came to mind
//"Hello-o-o-o!! I got beamed with a giant ball of oil..."

2008-10-27 04:28:41 AM
That was actually a lot neater than I expected it to be.
Kinda surreal. I had odd thoughts, like could it bounce and break a window in an office building? Could it bounce down the street and eventually make its way out of town? If It burst on a playground would the air come out forcefully like in a balloon? If only one person stood under it would it squish them?

Uchiha_Cycliste: Kinda surreal.

My first thought also. Like slow motion. I'll bet that was pretty awesome standing under that having it float down on top of you.

I'm not afraid to admit you couldn't get me near that crowd.

"The elders tell of a young ball much like you. He bounced three meters in the air. Then he bounced 1.8 meters in the air. Then he bounced FOUR meters in the air. Do I make myself clear?"

Moments later, the ball ended up in old man Colorado's yard, who refused to give it back.

2008-10-27 08:50:51 AM
Was KRAMERICA behind this?

2008-10-27 08:54:15 AM
But we've got the biggest, balls of them all!!!

I sort of expected all of those people under it to be squashed like grapes.

That's the coolest thing I've seen today - and I've been awake for over twenty minutes!

2008-10-27 08:58:50 AM
I witness something like this, and I think to myself, you know, maybe we're all gonna be alright.

I came here for the Kramerica Enterprises reference and will leave satisfied.

I'd spike that shiat on all of them!

Holy balls!
I'm from Denton (nearby), and the other day I heard radio ads for people to come participate. I thought to myself "there's no way they're gonna get a giant ball like that in downtown Dallas."
That's really...odd looking. It moved slower than I thought it would. At first, the video looks like a regular beach ball on a model set, until you see the people. It reminded me of elementary school gym class when we would play with the giant parachute (anyone else remember this?).

At first I was like: Those people are crazy
Then I was like: That shiat is cool

2008-10-27 09:02:49 AM
I think we are going to need a bigger beach.

Uchiha_Cycliste

If only one person stood under it would it squish them?

I'd imagine it would be very unpleasant, if not fatal. That's a lot of material.

2008-10-27 09:03:32 AM
I wonder who the hell had the crappy job of blowing it up? Paris Hilton?

2008-10-27 09:03:50 AM
I saw the guy come into the bottom right corner on the first drop and I thought he was all "Oh, shiate!", and I larfed.
But then I watched it again and he was just handling the line. So boring.

Same here.. needless to say, I'm very disappointed.

That ball must have had helium as well as normal air in it, just wasn't acting quite right for its size and weight. That said...

I was half laughing at the prospect of the people underestimating how heavy it was and getting squashed underneath it...in a funny tragic sort of way.

Wow, what a waste of resources. I hope they use the material from the ball to do something more worthwhile.

It's reassuring to know that, in a time of crisis, Americans are focused on what's important.

I sort of expected all of those people under it to be squashed like grapes.

I expected lots of sprained and broken fingers with each bounce. I'm surprised the bystanders weren't told: "closed fists only".

2008-10-27 09:16:41 AM
Oekss: I'd spike that shiat on all of them!

That's you in the white shirt at the end of this copy of the video, isn't it?

It is acting perfectly in accordance with air resistance with no bouyancy added. It was falling at the normal rate. It was just larger than youre used to seeing therefore appeared to be moving slowly.

Its all relative.

2008-10-27 09:17:26 AM
Omnivorous: "closed fists only".

That's what she said.

2008-10-27 09:19:57 AM
It would be more fun to try to stand on the top of the ball while it fell.

Takes a lot of ball to do that.
