T-Luv: Although molesting boys is reprehensible, that's not my major beef with the Boy Scouts.

Boy Scouts molest boys?

T-Luv: Boy Scouts is a place where any boy can come and be accepted by his peers.

No it's not. It's an indoctrination program for faith-based conformity. Kind of like AA.

T-Luv: Gay boys could most benefit from a place where they can be treated like they aren't some sort of freak of nature.

It's called the Theatre Department.

There are a few Mormon splinter-sect polygamist compounds in places like Texas and Utah, where they decided to get their 72 teenaged virgins right here on Earth, without waiting for Heaven.

And yes... they are Christians.

They don't actually follow Christ's teachings much, but if that was some sort of disqualification from being considered a Christian, then there would hardly be any Christians at all, anywhere.

Weaver95: i've never understood why so many homosexual men think it's important to become scoutmasters. I'm sure it's for entirely altruistic reasons of course. Pay it no mind.

Basically it boils down to equal rights and prejudice against GLBTs. Some gays who want to be Scoutmasters can't because the BSA is concerned about exposing young boys to homosexuals on religious issues and sexual abuse concerns.

/Let's get back on subject now (Christian Right and Obama).

The one benifit of the Obama presidency I see is the nationwide end of white guilt.

Evaluate the issues on the merits, not some misplaced sense of guilt.

gee, nutbag, there is no comparison. The 72 virgin idea is based on receiving them in Heaven because you died for Allah. To compare polygamy to that is reaching far beyond the realm of intelligence and logic.

Chris Rock is a no neck mouth breather?

thamike: Asa Phelps: Just more proof that whenever someone says "I'm not racist, but . . " it means they're a racist.

It goes hand in hand with two other types of attitudes that insecure honkies sometimes adopt:

1) The no-neck mouth breather who, with a straight face, goes into a wild tangent on the difference between "normal black people" and n**gers.

2) The whiner who doesn't seem to grasp the simple concept behind why black people have more of a right to get offended by white racism than white people have to get offended by black racism.

Seriously, retards, if you're a racist, have some balls. Just embrace it and take your chances.

"What you won't hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge, and patriotism as a bludgeon -- that sees our opponents not as competitors to challenge, but enemies to demonize." - Barack Obama, June 3, 2008

Probably. You would find molesters in any population from random chance.

No it's not. It's an indoctrination program for faith-based conformity. Kind of like AA.

I wasn't indoctrinated. I just went camping and earned merit badges. I don't even believe in god today.

It's called the Theatre Department.

Or cheerleading for the overly flamboyant. Now that I think of it there was a guy in the troop who started cheerleading in high school. He dated girls, but maybe those were his beards.

Weaver95: the BSA inside the country aren't assholes either. they're just being punished because they refuse to kowtow to political correctness.

I take a great deal of umbrage at this.

As a private organization I think the BSA has a great deal of leeway in what in policing its own members and for the most part, I feel perfectly fine with having a "hands off" (no irony intended) approach to it. They're a private organization and I feel that all private organizations should be able to have their own membership codes - yes even blatantly sexist, racist or otherwise discriminatory. This is the essence of "private" to me, mainly, we stay the fark out of it.

However, I don't particularly feel that somehow because they are the "boy scouts" that they are entitled to use public facilities at no charge when their stated membership policies discriminate on the basis of religion. They are most certainly not being persecuted. They made their bed and now they get to lay in it.

Big farking deal.

This seems like something the scouts should be able to understand - if you have principles, then you accept the results of your actions, both the good and the bad.

Our resident neo-con religious right extremist at work wanted me to read something from James Dobson and his group, I guess this was it. I told her that I was already very familiar with him and I pretty much disagree with him so it really would be useless for me to read. Her reply was: "Oh you disagree with him on abortion and killing innocent babies!" I looked at her and said: "Yeah, I guess I do." She huffed off. I should have read it to humor/appease her but her remark about killing babies was way out of line.

In all other aspects I like her, respect her, and she is a great worker so reporting this incident (crossing the line or not) is not an option in my opinion. I'm not like that and she is otherwise and awesome co-worker. But this is more of the example of how otherwise intelligent people have been brainwashed by the right and believe whatever tripe they spew to them. She is gripping hard and probably expects all of this stuff to happen ten-fold.

It is sad, very sad how an otherwise intelligent and rational person as this can be so irrational and act so ignorant at times. I am cool with her having her views though I disagree yet she is not cool with me having mine and seems compelled to "enlighten" me. I think every time we have had a "debate" (started by her) I have left her stumped and that may be why she is focussing of "converting" me to her side so much.

same thing here.

And given all the pedophile allegations flying around our society these days, can you REALLY blame the BSA for playing it safe? I certainly don't. And if you're at all honest with yourself, you won't blame them either.

I think the funny thing about the Rapture, if it were true, is that the fundies that are getting ready for it won't be the ones going up to heaven.

It'll be 144,000 quiet people that work in little corners of the world, keeping to themselves, helping people along in homeless shelters, food kitchens, micro-loan banks, Red-Cross/crescent stations and charity workers in the crappiest parts of the world who never ask for thanks, who never boast about how much they loved Jesus or were better than those around them. People that never told anyone who was tolerant of different lifestyles that they were going to hell.
They'll be the ones who go up and the Fundies will be sitting around either waiting for the "Real Rapture", trying even harder to be Jesus' angry best friend or ignoring whats happened and finding a way to blame the homosinuals.
I can see them all, sitting in their basements, a dust covered bible on a night-stand, a picture of Jesus on the wall in front of an American flag, six thousand cans of tuna to outlast the apocalypse, slowly stroking their guns, screwing up their kids and getting ready to go out and shoot the first person that their church leader claims is the anti-christ, oblivious to the teachings of Jesus and being all around coonts about it to anyone that'll listen.

So I say let the rapture wait, no matter how it turns out we're stuck with these pricks unless we destroy them as a culture by basically removing any and everything that supports them in an official capacity.
Cut their authority on setting lessons on school-boards, take their attempts to legislate morality out of the city councils, state senates and federal government, arrest them and throw the book at them for inciting violence time and time again, shame them in public time after time for being so against the teachings of their Lord and saviour and farking take them out of the media cycle so their message will die in a generation instead of festering in the background till the end of time.

/Seriously hate hearing about this crap from America, all the Americans I've ever met have been cool, interesting and great people. Most of the ones online as well, but that loud few have been pissing me off for years.
//The bible, and most other religious scriptures come to think of it, tells us to not trust those that proclaim their faith the loudest because they're not faithful because they believe they're faithful because they're afraid of not being part of the group.

Asking the public to subsidize a group they disagree with is not fair, either. Be anti-gay, I don't give a shiat...but pay for venues or find someone willing to donate private space. It's not a difficult concept.

But that doesn't mean you are gay. That's more Pedophile. Who would you trust your kid with more; a flaming gay guy or a banker with a child molestation charge? See. Its the Pedo part that is the problem.

And given all the pedophile allegations flying around our society these days, can you REALLY blame the BSA for playing it safe? I certainly don't. And if you're at all honest with yourself, you won't blame them either.

I can't blame them at all, but again, there are gay guys, there are pedophiles, and there are some who are both. Its that last group that are the danger to young boys.

Add to the fact that it's not your job (or anyones job really) to tell the BSA what they can and cannot believe. Punishing them for being different is discriminatory.

Since they are a private organization, I agree with you 100%. While I don't agree with what they are doing, they absolutly have the right to carry on as they deem fit.
