The 94' Blue Whale in the Museum of Natural History is possibly the best reason to visit that great museum. Unfortunately, the whale is made out of fiberglass.

Ahhh! Woooh! What's happening? Who am I? Why am I here? What's my purpose in life? What do I mean by who am I? Okay okay, calm down calm down get a grip now. Ooh, this is an interesting sensation. What is it? Its a sort of tingling in my... well I suppose I better start finding names for things. Lets call it a... tail! Yeah! Tail! And hey, what's this roaring sound, whooshing past what I'm suddenly gonna call my head? Wind! Is that a good name? It'll do. Yeah, this is really exciting. I'm dizzy with anticipation! Or is it the wind? There's an awful lot of that now isn't it? And what's this thing coming toward me very fast? So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like 'Ow', 'Ownge', 'Round', 'Ground'! That's it! Ground! Ha! I wonder if it'll be friends with me? Hello Ground!

Glad the Academy of Sciences in SF kept their blue whale skeleton, and have even re-hung it so that you can almost get nose to nose with it, and really see how friggin' immense this creature is.

It's intimidating to stand underneath it, especially when you are young.

RocketRod: Will there also be a bowl of petunias?

Beaten to the punch. And with such aplomb, I might add.

This thread is useless without a description of where on this fracking planet the museum is.

there's this thing on the intertubes sometimes known as the google. Seek it out, and when it asks what you seek, tell it "Museum of Natural History".

Yeah. It's in the same city as the bus station, if you need a hint.

While our whale at the Van Andel Museum is quite awesome, it is a finback whale, not a blue whale. Still 76 feet long though.

pssst, it's in London and for those especially smug gits, googling "museum of natural history" gives you a geographically relevant hit, not the one with the coolest whale. I get the one in Nova Scotia.

No word if it got a fair trial

Word is that it was a kangaroo court.
