Their butt is kicked what?
2003-01-02 11:46:51 PM
We'll have to wait and see. I just hope the admins don't shy away from all the "I told you so" articles when Ohio State wins the game tomorrow.

2003-01-03 12:54:27 AM
Heh, Ohio State will own Miami.
2003-01-03 05:00:08 AM
go osu! my best friend goes there, as i would have if they had the program i wanted, and the only thing i worry about is that there will most likely be a riot, whether or not the bucks win. maybe i'm just too girlie, but i'd be proud of the bucks even if they didn't win, this season has been the best in osu's history.
2003-01-03 05:02:00 AM
Does Fark have a football team?
2003-01-03 05:04:54 AM
I kind of wish a plane will come down on the field during it's approach to sky harbor.

Go Blue.
2003-01-03 05:05:00 AM
Snoozetacular, another reason why American sports suck.
2003-01-03 05:05:19 AM
Go Beer! Err, I mean, Go Bucks! And there won't be a riot, as many people aren't on campus right now.
2003-01-03 05:06:24 AM
A friend of my dad was halfback at OSU a long time ago, but I do have to admit they are gonna get buttfvcked by the Canes, w/o ass jelly.
2003-01-03 05:06:52 AM
Rib there are other sports besides American?
2003-01-03 05:08:46 AM
Miami would have to mail in a major choke job for OSU to stand much of a chance. When they play their "A" game they are just downright scary.

Ohio State is the most overrated #2 team in recent memory. There vaunted defense played against the Big Ten remember. Nobody in the Big Ten has the speed or passing game that Miami does. They'll keep it respectable in the first half... but eventually they're gonna tire out chasing the speedy Miami RB's & WR's around. It's over by the end of the 3rd...

Maimi: 49 Ohio State: 24

When Ohio State wins tomorrow, and all the OSU students are rioting and tearing down street lights on High Street, I'll be right there, laughing at all the doubters.

2003-01-03 05:25:05 AM
I'm thinking Miami will win, but I'd rather OSU. Everyone attributes god-status to Miami but quickly forget that they were a missed field goal away from losing their top spot this season.

Not that OSU is any better. If I recall correctly, they've had to take it to overtime once or twice.

Some of the "logic" used in the article was totally backwards. "Dorsey got less votes for the Heisman, therefore he has more to prove and will play better." WTF? OSU is ranked #2, I guess that means they'll play better because they have more to prove.

What's really funny is that all these sports writers will make prediction after prediction, but rarely, if ever, do you here of people saying, "Ok, these are the predictions I made last week, let's see how many were right, and how many were wrong."
2003-01-03 05:25:54 AM
Yeah Miami really did have a good season I mean look how many top 10 ten teams they played in regular season, 0. OSU only played 3. 3 top 10 ranked teams. Yeahs thats being overrated. Let me take a guess, you also a Notre dame fan too?
2003-01-03 05:37:59 AM
OSU will be the best team Miami has played all year, and they've been in trouble a number of times. Stop the Miami run with eight in the box, double their best WR, play stiff zone and force their QB to try to pick it apart. It's how the Patriots beat the Rams last year. The Miami offense hasn't proved they have the patience to nickel-and-dime, and speed is more of a hindrance than a help against a good cover 2.

Also, Miami has a craptacular run defense, and OSU has a powerful running attack with one of the best backs in the country. If OSU gets an early lead, they can hold it.

(Yeah, I'm from Ohio and I love the Bucks, but they have a realistic shot at beating Miami, no matter how well the Canes play.)
2003-01-03 06:13:10 AM
No way..the Lakers will win...

Have you ever watched college football before? Miami played no top-10 ranked teams. The Big 10 finished with four teams in the top 12. The Big 10 is a contender this year, and Miami is overrated when you compare them to the team they were last year. They should have lost to Florida state. OSU didn't have to win all its games because the other team screwed up at the end.

Whatever, I really don't see where "overrated" comes into play this year. It's the two undefeated teams playing. It doesn't matter if you think your school should be number 2, because they lost a bunch of games and they suck. OSU didn't lose a bunch of games. Miami didn't lose a bunch of games. It's the correct matchup, and it will be a lot closer than you think.
2003-01-03 06:28:35 AM
Georgeous makes it sound so simple, it's a wonder nobody else thought of that this season or last season or heck, the season before that. Let's see 8 in the "box" to stop the run plus 2 on the best reciever (any of them can beat you) equals 1 man left to cover one of the best tight ends in the country, and 2 other receivers. Is that Ohio math?

Does Ohio still lead the country in per capita rape?
2003-01-03 07:01:53 AM
Everyone who is very confident that OSU will win tomorrow is drunk / high/ dumb. I'm not a fan of either team, but I know a favorite when I see it. My question is: will the OSU fans be here tomorrow if the Buckeyes DO get blown out, saying "Well, I guess they actually were the better team"?

Heck, I hope it will be a close game tomorrow. Almost all the bowl games I've watched this past week have been blowouts, very boring. A thriller, especially for the national title, would be a nice change of pace.
2003-01-03 07:05:41 AM
Never underestimate what an Ohio team can do when it's motivated. Ohio State this year has found a way to get enough points to win every game. The game will be close. My guess is that Miami will believe that they'll win big. Overconfidence is the first sign of weakness.
2003-01-03 07:06:46 AM
Either team is capable of a very solid game. Miami has more offensive weapons, OSU has a stellar defense. Coker and Tressel are both class acts. The Big Ten has acquitted itself just fine in the Bowl games...apart from Iowa's dismal performance last I don't think they have any reason to be embarrassed as a conference.

I hope it's a great game. But I hope the Bucks win.

OSU 27, Miami 24.
2003-01-03 07:17:25 AM
call me crazy, but I think that OSU will WIN!
2003-01-03 07:24:47 AM
Ohio State has a puncher's chance against Miami, but if there's going to be a blow out in Tempe it will be Miami bombing Ohio State. An Ohio State victory will be a tight one. Miami's never scored under 26 points and Ohio State's never allowed more than 21 (game 1 v. T.Tech). The way I see it: If Miami gets to 30 points...Miami wins absolutely, Miami doesn't get to 20....OSU's best chance of winning, Miami getting into the 20's....Probably a Miami win.

The Vegas odds makers are giving you Buckeye fans a great deal: +375 to win the game (375 dollar net gain on a 100 dollar bet).
2003-01-03 07:31:04 AM
Miami has not faced a defensive line like Ohio State. My fear is that the Bucks get off to a slow start offensively from time to time. Tressel always makes stellar adjustments at halftime. Just can't let it get out of hand early. GO BUCKS!
2003-01-03 07:44:39 AM
You guys are missing the big problem, which is that regardless of the game's outcome (Miami will win, but that's beside the point), we will still have the BCS in our lives Saturday morning. Everyone's praising it for doing its job this year, but let's be realistic about the difficulty in determining who plays in the title game this year. My wife couldn't care less about football, and she can figure out that when there are only two undefeated teams, one of them should be the National Champion. I don't need the Sagarin rankings to tell me that. The BCS only came about because the Rose Bowl said OK, and when it pulls out in 2006, the BCS will go bye-bye. Well, here's hoping, at least.
2003-01-03 07:54:13 AM
I thought the BCS contract ended this year.
2003-01-03 08:08:52 AM
We've had this argument like 100 times on Fark, will OSU lose... or more like, everyone except the OSU students saying OSU will lose. And they always win.
(I still think OSU will lose, but I'm very sad about it)
2003-01-03 08:22:35 AM
i think the same people that are saying we will lose the game today, are the same ones that said wed lose to michigan...HA!
2003-01-03 08:33:58 AM
A little off topic, but they said if the BCS formula were applied to the NFL this season it would be Philly vs. Oakland.
Way too many college bowls, IMO. What does it mean if you win one?
2003-01-03 08:34:05 AM
Ohio State will win tomorrow, Clarett had 230 yeards rushing in the game against Washington State who had the #7 run-defence in the country. What is Miami ranked in run defence???? #75. Clarrett ends the season with a huge day. I know what your gonna say Miami fans "McGahee is going to be hard to stop"....Please give me a break, 1 name for you Larry Johnson. 2015 total rushing yards this season and 66 of them were against Ohio State. McGahee ( a joke). Next on the agenda, I bet this article was submitted by the same bottle of vinegar and water(Feminein Hygiene product)that said the same exact thing about the Ohio State-Michigan game. Keep up the wishful thinking, the National Championship Drought is over in Ohio.

p.s Cleveland stomps Pittsburg on Saturday.
2003-01-03 08:38:42 AM
Go Buckeyes! Go Browns! Clean sweep this weekend.
Dawg (He who is from Ohio)
2003-01-03 08:42:39 AM
I don't undestand #2 - the team completly changes within four years, sometimes within 1 or 2. What "experiance" are they asking for, the Ghosts of Football past?
Wouldn't #4 History - actually be working aganst Miami?
Ditto for #5
Uh, #6 is beyond trivial and grasping for straws
#7 - who plays for what team? Please, edddicate us who don't care for football...
#8 - see #7. And this matters why?
#9 - I love to use my tight ends, too. Feels good baby, uhh. And by the way, please edditcate us who plays for what team and why this matters?
#10 - this one actually makes sense, since it's all about big strong sides'o'beef running around out there.
#11 - you're talking future, not present. And if Miami looses, any bets on those future draft picks?
#12 - And how many did Osu play? If you're going to trot out stats, you need to put in something to compare it to. Otherwise, I would think you're talking about how many ranked teams I played aganst. Which would be zero.
#13 - Let me guess, you love the Hurricanes. Bully for you. But you've leaving out what, the other team?
#14 - Miami was lame, but still good - huh?
#18 - stats and numbers, finally something to compare. I'll buy these.
#19 - and you left out where OSU is week.
#20 - why?

Well, it's ESPN, which is crap anyways. And it's football, which is even more crap. I'll be doing anything else, like maybe taking my GF to the beach or something much more interesting.
2003-01-03 08:58:46 AM
Ugh. Possible? Sure. Obvious? Uh, no. Most of these 20 "reasons" (and I use the term loosely) are based on the ghosts of last season, conjecture about the future, and the notion that Miami can't be beaten because they haven't been beaten YET. It can happen, kids. Yeah, I'm in/from Ohio and I'm a Buckeyes fan, and I want nothing more than to see the men of the scarlet and grey put their collective foot in Miami's ass. I could be wrong but I just don't see the blowout that everyone seems to be taking for granted.
2003-01-03 09:05:13 AM
I wonder if Miami was this confident those two quarters during which they were losing to Rutgers...
2003-01-03 09:06:00 AM
even being a Penn Stater, and hating OSU, I still think they're going to win.
Plus there is an article saying exactly the opposite on ESPN, which wasn't posted on fark....
2003-01-03 09:13:11 AM
who cares what espn says anyway...

(ill be watching the game right here on stuff)
2003-01-03 09:14:39 AM
It's either 51-10 Miami or 17-14 OSU. The first three OSU defensive stands will tell the tale. Miami has not played under pressure for a long time. OSU hasn't played without pressure.

BUCKS WIN, because they have fans 8 to 1 over Miami. Some bar owner has set up the Varsity Club in Tempe.
2003-01-03 09:22:18 AM
Bowl games mean money for your conference which means money for your program which means scholarships which means talent. That's what bowl games mean for the one who asked.

As for Miami v. OSU. First of all let's not dismiss Miami. You would be very stupid to do so. You don't accidentally win 34 in a row and a National Championship. Also, please don't boil this down to OSU has a great defense and Miami a great offense. Miami is also a very good defensive team and thier starting QB and RB were Heisman finalists.

Millay--So being down and coming back to win the game somehow counts against a team's character?

Personally, I think Miami is going to eat OSU alive, but since the article is from ESPN let me throw a quote at you:
That's why they play the games!
2003-01-03 09:27:49 AM
Whoa, gotta change my call here. I just read Rasputin's link and I didn't realize there were so many OSU bobbleheads out there. Clearly this tidbit will shake up the oddsmakers.
2003-01-03 09:29:46 AM
Since the Gators did so poorly this year. I'm still glad a Florida team is going to be the champions. Go Canes!!!!
2003-01-03 09:35:38 AM
Either way, the Buckeye fans will set fire to every sofa and overturn every car in Tempe.
Go Bucks.
2003-01-03 09:40:43 AM
Where did this hatred for OSU come from?
2003-01-03 09:43:05 AM
*puts car in garage*
2003-01-03 09:44:54 AM
Doesnt it seem rather lazy for a journalist to again tell us why he thinks Miami is a better team... very courageous of him..
2003-01-03 09:46:37 AM
You know, in the history of sports, no team has ever won because they were better on paper.

As Chris Berman says, "That's why they play the game!"

Number one reason why Miami will lose? - Because everyone things they'll win.

Welcome to UPSET CITY, baby!

GO BUCS!!!!!!
2003-01-03 09:48:17 AM
BB: what's not to hate?
2003-01-03 09:49:10 AM
2003-01-03 09:50:30 AM
#23, nice junk-in-the-trunk. Q.H. Go Quad!
2003-01-03 09:57:14 AM
2003-01-03 09:58:38 AM
Ok, I see a lot of Ohio fanz on here so I have to backup my boys. I a Miami fan and went to most of a lot of games this year and I've gotta say, this team is impressive when they come to play. Watch out!

Go Canes!
