How often do you see a team come back from down 7 late in the game? I enjoyed it.

When did the Mets trade their bullpen to Tampa?

2008-10-17 07:47:48 AM
This game(prior to the 7th) and the last 2 got me too comfortable against the Red Sox. That's all they didn't need, something to give Boston fans something go crazy over. Sigh..

it was the biggest comeback in an elimination game since 1929.

I blame Craig Sager for spending 4 minutes interviewing that failure Chuck Lamar. The curse of the Chuck haunts the Rays again.

I fell asleep after the bottom of the 6th, thought this game was wrapped up... fark the Sox.

Well, I am gonna have to cop to pink hat status. I have a cold, and turned off the game to go to bed.

So is it temporary, or do I have to wear the hat for the rest of the season?

The Phils comeback to clinch, and then this?

This postseason rules (partly bevcause I'm a Phillie fan)

2008-10-17 08:26:34 AM
Maddon made a good call sitting Shields, Kazmir pitched well. That one was definitely on the bullpen. Rays just better hope this isn't the start of something bigger, letting the bats wake up the way they did. Everyone chipped in for that one, which is encouraging.

This. God what idiots. You know they probably shelled out four figures for those seats too. Have Red Sox 'fans' learned NOTHING since 2004??

2008-10-17 08:27:07 AM
I liked my headline a lot better.

"It may have taken until the 7th inning of the 5th game of the ALCS when they were up 3-1 in the series, but the Tampa Bay Rays finally came back to form"

2008-10-17 08:27:56 AM
I was curious why they didn't change pitchers in the 8th after Drew's HR.

Walk-walk-HR isn't enough reason to change pitchers?

No?

Ok, how about Walk-walk-loud out-K-Smashed double to deep center?

2008-10-17 08:37:06 AM
What's really funny about this is that my Sox fan friends are actually NERVOUS about Josh Beckett pitching Saturday. Last year they were like "fark it, Beckett's on, lights out."

/still unbeaten in the postseason
//two no-decisions after he sucked out loud helped with that

Bottom of the 7th, 2 outs, 7-0 down, I was just about to turn off the tv and go to bed. So glad I didnt, what an amazing game! And FYI I am british so no Bosox bias here

kidddynamite: And the Phillies sit back and relax get rusty while these teams wear each other down stay in game shape and keep their edge.

There really is a fine line between getting rested and getting rusty. Although I have read that the Phillies are going to be taking extra BP every day leading up to the Series, which is a good idea. If they can get some sort of simulated game action in, even better. But for a team that has been smoking hot over the last month or so the last thing you'd really want is some extended time off.

I was at the game. Best game I have EVER been to. Bar none. My co-worker who was there with his wife sitting next to us had to leave after the top of the 7th to get back and drive their baby sitter home. Man, when he gets in today I am sure he's not gonna be happy he missed it.

I have a friend that left game 5 of the 2004 ALCS game before Ortiz hit his home run. He doesn't acknowledge that he left early now - when he tells people that he was there, he acts like he stayed for the duration. But he was already in his car heading North on 93 when Ortiz when deep.

People like you (the losers that run their mouth about how good the AFC/AL is) should be beaten in the face with a rusty lead pipe. You are idiots. You same the same shiat every year. Find a new line jackass.

Fenway appeared pretty full throughout and I don't recall any of the standard "crowds heading to the exits" shots in the middle of the game a la' game 4. Can anyone who was there (I know toonz and GimpyNip were) confirm?

There was a raffle at my school for two tickets to last night's game, and a parking pass to go with it. Damn I wish I'd won that...

Bostowned.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Game 6. My gut feeling is that Beckett's gonna break out of his slump - and if the Sox bats stay lively, then, well... it could be last year all over again.

It was astounding. I really want the Rays to win, but that was a combination of Rays fail and Sox win. It was terrific.

Well, the good news (I guess) is that there's an entire game thread where you can find out which Sox fans gave up and which ones stuck with their team like you're supposed to.

Or you can check out the white flag they put up on Barstoolsports (new window) in the 7th inning.

Not that it matters, but anybody who's watched this team for the last four years should know the game is never over. For all the talk about the "Fenway Faithful" I saw a lot of people leaving AN ELIMINATION GAME last night.

Eh. Whatever. Great win for the Red Sox, and I personally have no idea how Tampa comes back from that.

Great win indeed - but this all reeks of all year long, when people constantly pointed out the game/event where Tampa would start their slide back down. Never happened.

You don't know what you're talking about. The Red Sox scored 4 runs in the 7th. The crowd was back into it by then.

I absolutely gave a little concession speech. I'm not sure that makes me a bad "fan", though.

Now that's a game I wish I was at.
That's the sort of game where, even if you're not a fan of either team, the excitement just pulls you in.

I think it reeks of Josh Beckett pitching a gem in Game 6, then having his oblique sent to the Hall of Fame, followed by a Red Sox blowout in Game 7.

I've seen this all before. It kept me up last night having 2004 flashbacks.

It doesn't, but haven't you ever "reached" a little in finding things to criticize a rival's fans?

Plus, it does put a damper on the "we always believed" nonsense.

Unless they were at the game. Or watching it. I don't think I have a post in that thread...

It just goes to prove that the talking heads on ESPN don't have a clue what the fark is going on. All I heard all day was the Rays starting pitcher was going to get rocked and they need to go to the bullpin ASAP.

Didn't you hear? Josh Beckett underwent surgery for his oblique muscle this morning. I guess they took the oblique from a cadaver and stitched to Beckett's side, and he is expected to pitch with a blood-soaked shirt tomorrow night...

Was watching at a bar in Boston and left when it was 7-0. Got home, turned on the TV and it was 7-4. WTF?

Not a big Sox fan, but you gotta love comebacks like that. Lots of people were doom and gloom at the bar, but I had to say that after seeing Game 6 of the '86 Series, it is NEVER over until the last out.
