Actually I was watching the Daily Show last night and Job Stewart was making fun of both Obama and McCain equally, he ended the segment asking about a viable third party candidate and mention Ron Paul. I still am not sure that wasn't some kind of dream scene I had. I've never seen the Daily Show attack Obama.

The report comes from the Center for Media and Public affairs, which, according to Sourcewatch, is almost completely funded by conservative organizations:

Zem: McCain and Palin are funny pretty much all the time. Biden's funny sometimes, Obama, not really seen anything to laugh at, he's wrong about some things, sure, but not really amusingly so.

But Christ Republicans are a humourless lot, which makes them even funnier. A guy doing a faceplant on the sidewalk is funny, but if he does it then claims it never happened, that's comedy gold.

This, especially the second part.

Also, Palin/McCain are funnier on deeper levels. Palin thinking she's qualified to be VP because she can see Russia from her house, led the Alaskan national guard, and governed Alaska for two years is funny for a lot of reasons and provides a plethora of material.

When Biden says jobs is a three letter word, then clearly spells it out in four letters as J-O-B-S, it's also funny. But certainly not AS funny because there's no substance there; it's only good for a quick chuckle as it's just a stupid mistake. What's more, after the fact he doesn't go around insisting that we're all wrong and that jobs is, in fact, a three letter word and the conservative media is just out to get him. That kind of humor is reserved for the GOP.

All2morrowsparTs: Wow, when did the Republicans turn into a bunch of whiney nancy boys.

I don't know, I'm almost ashamed that they were the only political party I've ever registered for. But I got out when McCain should have gotten out, in 2001, after I saw what Rove did to the "Old McCain" in the 2000 elections and what Bush did with the 9-11 global support (he pissed it away).fark republicans, they're dead to me. So worthless. So ignorant. You guys used to have the rhetorical edge. You should have stuck to small business, states rights, personal responsibility, and small government. Instead, you turned into a bunch of pedophiles and chickenhawks. Your party's demise comes far too late to save America's reputation...

"When you choose a moose hunting hockey mom with the intelligence of a turnip as your running mate, you have demonstrated that you are either not serious about becoming president or you think Americans are fools."

Um, you might want to ask Joe Biden how many letters "jobs" has. Or you could ask him the Obama/Biden's position on clean coal. Or how President Roosevelt went on television in 1929 to explain economics. Or about that time he was living Neil Kinnock's life. Or the time his helicopter was forced down in Afghanistan. Or what kind of people work in 7-11 stores. Or about those clean, articulate black candidates for office.

When you get through doing that, ask Obama how many states there are. Or how he's going to serve as president for 10 years. Or about that state of New Pennsylvania. Or how he registered for Selective Service before it existed. Or how he served on the Senate Banking Committee while not serving on it. Or how a "typical white person" acts.

zodar99: wtf is facist

Fascism is a totalitarian nationalist and corporatist ideology committed to being a third way between capitalism and communism. It is primarily concerned with perceived problems associated with cultural, economic, political, and social decline or decadence, and which seeks to solve such problems by achieving a millenarian national rebirth by exalting the nation, promoting the territorial defense or expansion of a nation through a constant state of military preparedness and promotion of militarism as well as promoting cults of unity, strength and purity.

Communism is usually considered to be a branch of socialism, a broad group of social and political ideologies, which draws on the various political and intellectual movements with origins in the work of theorists of the Industrial Revolution and the French Revolution. Communism attempts to offer an alternative to the problems believed to be inherent with capitalist economies and the legacy of imperialism and nationalism. Communism states that the only way to solve these problems is for the working class, or proletariat, to replace the wealthy bourgeoisie, which is currently the ruling class, in order to establish a peaceful, free society, without classes, or government.

So are you the fiscal conservative who doesn't realize that you're screwed no matter which candidate wins, the socialist-in-denial for whom it hasn't quite sunk in yet that your heroes just nationalized the banks, or the single-issue culture-of-life patriot who wants to kill people for killing babies so that they can all grow up to kill Arabs for cheap oil on your behalf?

When making my hourly rounds on the news sites, I occasionally like to check and see what those rascals at Fox news are up to... It literally brought a smile to my face this morning when every other news site's main story was Obama "winning" the debate last night, and what does Fox news put front and center? A story about how the late-nite comics are picking on the republicans. Waaaaaaah!!!

Think they were avoiding the real story?

It reminds me of something... but what is it?? Oh yeah, that's right... When John McCain STILL refused to come down on the horrendous "KILL HIM" comment, and rather focused on how he and Palin have been so victimized. Boo Hoo.

Can I get a round of "HELP, WE'RE BEING OPPRESSED!" ?

purple helmet: It wouldn't matter who the candidates are. The bulk of mass media is highly partisan in favor of the democrats.

In 2000 McCain was the media darling. He also made sure he was available to reporters even when he did not like their station/channel/paper.

It didn't get him elected of course. George Bush had party backing, a lot more money and the religious right backing him, and especially in the primary, that easily overcame favorable press for McCain, especially since his stands were considered more 'moderate' and appealed more to conservative Democrats and Independents than to the right wing of his own party.

This year he used George Bush's tactics, and at least as far as getting the party nomination, it worked. It's just not working well with everyone else, including and especially people who supported him in 2000.

Fox News was in 2007 THE leading cable news outlet, ahead of CNN, MSNBC and Bloomberg. It is, to put it mildly, very pro Republican, very very anti Obama, and at least grudgingly pro McCain. Clear Channel is the largest radio company in the US. Rush Limbaugh is carried mostly on Clear Channel talk radio stations, in fact I don't think there are any 'liberal' hosts on any talk station that Clear Channel owns. Clear Channel executives (you know, the guys who decide policy for the radio stations) also donate heavily to the Republican party. Wall Street Journal is a pro-McCain newspaper. I am sure most Newspapers (not all, but most) in the South are pro McCain.

Above, I have given 3 specific examples of why your 'mass media' statement is a wrong. All are major news outlets, and all whether they like it or not, are part of MSM or mass media, as you called them.

Wow, the talking point that destroyed America is still being repeated?

The media used to be an essential check on the power of government and business alike. The Republican spin machine basically have eliminated this check by continually undermining the regulation and trust the media needed to operate successfully, having done this the government was able to pursue the suicidally destructive path they went down without any significant objection from the vast majority of the population. Hope you enjoy living in the country you have helped fark up.

Interesting thread. I agree that it's much easier to believe that McCain is just infinitely easier to make fun of than Obama. Adding Palin basically was an invite from his campaign to be ridiculed. Even retards can understand this.

That said, who cares about late nite jokes? It's not like you so-called conservatives are coming up short in the talk radio and television business. Have you ever watched one of your own shows? It must be wonderful, spouting off virtually unchallenged for an hour.
Look, you guys have co-opted the American Flag, morals, and most of the opinion-related airwaves. So just QUIT YER WHINING already.

Jeez. For a party supposedly full of bravado and old-fashioned toughness (yeah, right), you're all a bunch of p*ssies.

2008-10-16 06:50:13 PM
"So are you the fiscal conservative who doesn't realize that you're screwed no matter which candidate wins"

Nope. Not happy with either party's choices.

"the socialist-in-denial for whom it hasn't quite sunk in yet that your heroes just nationalized the banks"

Wrong again. I'm a business writer who's been calling for Darwinian economics for a long time.

"the single-issue culture-of-life patriot who wants to kill people for killing babies so that they can all grow up to kill Arabs for cheap oil on your behalf?"

I don't understand the "kill people for killing babies" remark, but I am pro-life. I'm not going to address the army of straw men you set up in the rest of that statement.

"The reason I ask, you see, is that I'm doing a study on fark trolls, and there was so much fail in your post that I'm having a hard time categorizing you."

Oh, I disagree. I think you're having an easy time categorizing me, and anybody of a semi-like mind. Tolerance being a hallmark of the left and all.

Right, you're a well-read, well-educated, politically independent anarcho-capitalist (sorry, laisez-faire capitalist) who happens to think that these...

Um, you might want to ask Joe Biden how many letters "jobs" has. Or you could ask him the Obama/Biden's position on clean coal. ...are important issues to follow, and bring up for discussion while your country's economy crumbles around you.

As for the rest, yes, the abortion thing was a strawman, yes, I'm an intolerant jerk, and yes, I'm having an easy time categorizing you. Current category: stubborn but disillusioned Republican suffering from cognitive dissonance. Prescription: farkitrol.
