2003-01-02 07:13:25 AM
The equivilent of $2 US probably

2003-01-02 07:13:27 AM
They should have compensated them with free porn....

Nesta: about $3500 US.

2003-01-02 07:29:01 AM
Bush, Clinton, who cares? It's just nice to know that this doesn't happen in this country.

2003-01-02 07:35:38 AM
But the couple claimed their rights were violated
and
They consulted a lawyer and threatened to sue the police station.

Apparently, I know nothing about China. Do individuals have rights? In pure communism only the group has rights. Can you sue the police? It's generally frowned on by totalitarian regimes.

2003-01-02 07:37:42 AM
I'd sulk too if someone interrupted my porn.
Especially if I had a female watching it with me.

2003-01-02 07:38:46 AM
I swear I've had a nightmare like this!!

2003-01-02 07:41:01 AM
Did they get the video back? What were they watching "Back Door Sluts 9"?

South Park reference

2003-01-02 07:42:21 AM
Just how the fark did the police know they were watching porn? Did they have the curtains wide open while watching
"Phoc Hu Big Doggie" or something???

2003-01-02 07:42:59 AM
What is "porn" they speak of?

Probably could have got them on a copyright infringement. Does anybody actually buy porn?

2003-01-02 07:43:37 AM
Mbroe1: Dateline: Polk County, Florida. All strip, clubs, porn shops, adult sections of video stores, home-based porn webcams and probably Planned Parenthood offices have been closed down for several months now. It's basically illegal to buy or sell porn in that county. I'm not sure if possession is illegal. IIRC they even made a local business cover the naughty bits of a replica of Michelangelo's David that was on display.

It all goes nicely with Hillsborough's six-feet rule for strip clubs, which is enforced by periodic raids. Meanwhile my neighborhood continues to be a prime target for crackhead burglars.

Now if only we could somehow get these religious fundamentalist politicians in the U.S. (predominantly in the South) to apologize for -- and get rid of -- anti-pornography/anti-sodomy laws in their respective states and counties...

2003-01-02 07:47:35 AM
That is just wrong...

2003-01-02 07:48:43 AM
Brisvegas_boy, considering that it's the most profitable business on the internet, adult DVD's sell loads of money, and some people are WILLING to pay 25-50 bucks for it, I'd say, yeah, people do buy porn.

Anyone else notice the Boobie post earlier that had all the popups/virus has been removed? This just shows that Fark cares and that we need to come up with a list of things/programs Farkers need to surf safely(besides common sense).

"Apparently, I know nothing about China. Do individuals have rights? In pure communism only the group has rights."

China is a not a real communist state anymore, just a totalitairan one. I'm surprised they can sue the police though. Scary story.

Communism is an economic system, not a form of government.

Kudos to the missus for letting him watch mucky movies in her company. Perhaps a copy of Ben Dover's Ass Banging Bonanza will bring him back to his cheery self. God bless them.

Blumf is right. Communism is just the label china gave itself to make the Russians happy. It is not communist by any standards. A trip to any major chinese city now would surprise most westerners as to how capitalistic it has become.

2003-01-02 08:29:41 AM
The poor guy, he was prob embarrassed.

And as Truthslayer has said, people DO buy porn - sex sells!

2003-01-02 08:31:39 AM
I am curious, if there are any legally knowledgable farkers about. If the police bust into your house wrongfully (either through an incorrect or wrongly executed warrant) can that be considered criminal tresspass and/or breaking and entering?

2003-01-02 08:43:09 AM
MBroel yes it does, I found these just doing a quick google search.

LAPD bust the wrong house, shoot unarmed elderly resident to death

Two cases of drug raids on bogus tips both ending in resident being shot and killed

Retired minister dies when police mistakenly raid his apartment

These mistaken raids happen all the time here in the US... you just rarely hear about them.

2003-01-02 08:45:43 AM
I kind of understand the guy. I would be really embarassed if that hapenned to me and it also came out in the news. That couple should sue their arses.

2003-01-02 08:57:52 AM
I'd hate to think what I would be arrested for if Chinese police raided MY place...

Communism is an economic system, not a form of government.

Agreed.
However, the world has never (EVER) seen a democratically elected government with a communist economy. In all likelihood, it's a practical impossibility.

I'm shocked and encouraged by the news that Chinese citizens can sue the police.
Welcome to the freedom loving dark side, my totalitarian friends.

2003-01-02 09:08:26 AM
isn't the real point here that the police decided to just pay the guy in the end? they handed over good money because he was watching porn. if only more police forces paid people to watch porn, my life would be happier. and richer.

2003-01-02 09:09:50 AM
Wish I could get my wife to watch some. Only good thing about mny ex was her need for porn.

2003-01-02 09:13:06 AM
Back Door Sluts 9????? That's the worst one!

2003-01-02 09:14:04 AM
The wife said through tearful eyes: "I will be satisfied if my husband returns to his old self again."

well, that settles it. Porn solves everything.

2003-01-02 09:22:29 AM
So, let me get this straight. In China, if the police burst into your house because you're watching porn, you get to sue and the government recognizes your right to watch said porn.

But if you are a member of an "unapproved" religion or disagree with the government, you become are thrown into prison (and are likely to be put to forced labor in subhuman conditions).

Isn't that a little inconsistent with the concept of "free speech?"

2003-01-02 09:24:29 AM
Ebell: Yes, but they don't accept free speech. Bad porn is acceptable, however.

2003-01-02 09:25:09 AM
That story wasn't entirely clear... were police actually trying to arrest him for watching porn? If not, what the heck were they doing there??

2003-01-02 09:27:51 AM
In China, an individual can sue the government?

My guess is that a lot of people who file suit against the government tend to suddenly disappear and never be seen again...

2003-01-02 09:29:37 AM
Did they stakeout his house and keep tabs on the porn guy?

Was there a magical alarm in ther VCR that notifies the fuzz when Jenna Jameson is on the screen smoking a cock?

In communist china the porno watches YOU!

2003-01-02 09:39:57 AM
I heard that in China when they execute undesirables/criminals/whatever, they send the family a bill for the bullet they used. Is that true?

2003-01-02 09:41:45 AM
All the money in the world may not help this guy...He's probably impotent for life. Can you imagine how traumatizing that would be. I am sure watching porn was not the end purpose of the evening.

2003-01-02 10:05:57 AM
"The wife said through tearful eyes: "I will be satisfied if my husband returns to his old self again."

Tiger penis, anyone?

2003-01-02 10:15:08 AM
Man, that would surely wilt the ol' daisy...er sunflower.

But lest we get too smug, recall that less than 50 years ago in the good old US of A, a married CT couple was prosecuted for practicing birth control....anyone know how the po-leese gathered their evidence in that case (Griswold v. CT)?

2003-01-02 10:16:53 AM
Code_Archeologist, those are really disturbing to read about.

2003-01-02 10:55:20 AM
China: Cops bust you for viewing porn, they apologize and give you $3k

US: Cops bust you by mistake, but they can't apologize because they shot you dead.

It's true the chinese don't allow freedom of speech or freedom of religion, but thats beside the point. As long as you arn't trying to get people to overthrow the government, you are pretty much as free as you are here, which is to say, not as free as you should be.

As far as suing the government, well, it's not one big monolithic system. Suing the cops here would probably be the equivilent of suing the county or town government here. Not quite the same thing as taking on Ashcroft in the suprime cort.

And lets not forget people can and do get busted for porno right here in the US of A. Mostly porn shops and stuff, but still.

2003-01-02 11:01:30 AM
They can take away my freedom of expression, but they'll never take my "Clam Lappers" volumes 1 through 50.

Well, well. If that dosen't put the pucker in your starfish I dont know what will.....

"GRISWOLD ET AL. v. CONNECTICUT.
Decided June 7, 1965.

Appellants, the Executive Director of the Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut, and its medical director, a licensed physician, were convicted as accessories for giving married persons information and medical advice on how to prevent conception and, following examination, prescribing a contraceptive device or material for the wife's use. A Connecticut statute makes it a crime for any person to use any drug or article to prevent conception."

Nuts. All this time I've carried the mental image of the cops fishing used, uh, evidence out of their trash.

The smugness point remains, however--'tis a fragile set of liberties we enjoy.

2003-01-02 11:27:54 AM
Yeah, OK, how did the police know that the couple was in "mid-porn?" That's pretty scary.

Of course, in many US states a couple could be hauled off to jail if the police burst in while they were in mid-69. Wasn't there a case in Texas recently where two guys were arrested when the police came in and caught them in the act of sodomy?
