Come on, who doesn't want to see an even more crazed, bearded, antisemitic Riggs calling women sugartits and shouting conspiracy theories?

If Marlon Brando can't work in Hollywood after pissing off the Jews, what chance does Mel Gibson have?

The last installment was pure crap - and it ended with one of the corniest lines in movie history.

"We're family!"

Thank freaking God. Part III and Part IV already obliterated my childhood love of the first two.

"Stop it... stop it... he's already dead..."

They could Get Shia and Li'l Wayne to do it.

You know...a reboot

cartersdad: They could Get Shia and Li'l Wayne to do it.

No way. Get the two Coreys to do it. Corey Feldman could play Murtaugh.

Wow, Chud.com

I've been a member for years, but stopped going there for some unknown reason.

Good times.

Richard Donner says it ain't happening.

Good. It ended fine. He finds a new love and they all live happily ever after. A little corny, but I like ending on a high note.madcan34: The last installment was pure crap - and it ended with one of the corniest lines in movie history.

Since Hollywood is running out of classic horror/sci-fi movies to remake, the next step is probably the classic action movies.

"Lethal Weapon" starring Dane Cook and that guy who played Kumar. Summer 2011.

TFA: the Times seems to think that Mel is too busy with his CGI adaptation of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion or whatever big, personal projects he's interested in these days.

I think that's the funniest line I've read today.

Good. LW1 was fantastic. LW2 was good. LW3 was mediocre. LW4 was crap. Between the lame plots and Danny Glover's politics finding their way into the movies (the entire plots of 3 and 4), the series needs to stay gone. I just don't think they can recapture what made 1 and 2 so much fun.

2008-10-14 11:55:33 AM
Too bad. Shane Black wrote Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and this could have been much better than the recent installements.

Son of Thunder: akula: Danny Glover's politics finding their way into the movies (the entire plots of 3 and 4)

When he said "I'm freeing slaves, like nobody did for my ancestors" in LW4, I went

(That's right, I turned into a dog with a confused look on his face, big whoop wanna fight about it?)

That whole Emancipation Proclamation thing, just a conspiracy of historians?

The "Yeah big whoop wanna fight about it" almost had me spraying my monitor with coke. Almost. Good one.

I like the entire series, but I think by the time they got to part 4, it was a complete parody of itself. Chris Rock is a godawful actor and he looks completely uncomfortable in most scenes, like he has no idea what he's doing.

Part 1 was great, and very dark. Part 2 was good but they brought in Joe Pesci for comic relief (which wasn't bad, until the series became all comedy). Part 3 was decent but very preachy, and part 4 was nothing but a comedy with a little action sprinkled throughout.

I like in part 4 when Murtaugh says "I'm freeing slaves! I'm freeing slaves like no one did for my ancestors!".

Umm, what?

LW3 was nothing more than a big anti-NRA commercial with some witty dialogue (but about anything said by Glover about guns or ammo was pure, 100% BS). I see you've already covered how 4 was Glover going on about racial inequality.

What ever happened to good old fashioned pure evil bad guys that need to be taken out with a maximum of violence and snark? It seems that even the big action movies nowadays are getting preachy about something.

Hey, I am receptive to the anti-NRA stuff and I agree with you. When I watch an action movie, I wanna see stuff blown up good. More or less, when I pay to see a movie between Memorial Day and Labor Day, I really don't want to have to think or use my judgement.

/ Or any other time, really.

My favorite part of LW4 was that it had Jet Li in it. In his first big fight scene, he just stands there -- STANDS THERE -- and watches a fight go on without him. For like, five minutes or something.

That was awesome.

And some say pro-gun and anti-gun people can't find common ground. I'm with you- when it comes to action movies, I want destruction, I want witty repartee, and I also want to see some cute chick's tits onscreen. What's so hard about those three things?

They'd have to interrupt Danny Glover slurping on Hugo Chavez' pecker long enough to film it.

I agree, let the series die before you remove every last shred if dignity it ever had.

If Donner isn't involved, I wouldn't want to watch it.

No you need to milk it for more crap. Maybe they can bust Aliens and introduce their illegitimate kids like "Indiana Jones & the Crystal Skull."

/you raped him Spielberg.

If Mel Gibson isn't going to reprise his role, I'm calling my agent to see if I can get that shiat.

Thank fark. It would've been a terrible waste of a perfectly good Shane Black.

2008-10-15 04:03:30 AM
You haters are missing one very important point... Shane Black. This guy wrote the first and best LW, he wrote The Long Kiss Good Night, wrote and directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Reviving Robert Downey imo), and... the Monster Squad. Yes the Monster Squad. He is a freaking genius and we are all worse off for not having his hand in bringing back what we loved about the first movie, saw ghosts of in the second, wished for in the third, and cried for the death of in the fourth. Donner and Gibson are punks for not wanting to be upstaged by the man who by all accounts fathered the series.

Hell, let Robert Downey play Riggs and i'm sure Glover wil come back (what the hell else is he going to do?), as long as Shane Black writes it. IT will RULE!!!
