How else was he supposed to finance his foray into legitimate daytime television? Accept rejected Salvation Army donations.

TV shows with real people are lame and boring. The reason to watch tv is to escape our everyday lives.

2003-01-01 04:59:30 PM
It would have been much more interesting if he could have combined the Gong Show with his CIA work. The worst performers would have been lined up and shot. Best...show...premise...ever.

I can verify that claim. Papa Doc, as we like to call George Senior when we're kidding around with a few drinks at the Undisclosed Tavern, was head of the CIA at the time, and has discussed Barris many times.

Barris was the top agent we had for many years. He killed many top leftists, including major entertainers that he had access to (Humphrey Bogart - cancer? I think not. CIA cover story. Barris iced the friggin' commie. We know what The Big Sleep really means).

Back in the 1970's, Barris was going to kill the real Castro and replace him with our man, but Jaye P Morgan gonged the idea.

When Barris quit the company, most of his work had to be assigned to Gene, Gene, the Dancing and Killing Machine.

How do you get 'Springer' and 'Fear Factor' from 'The Gong Show' and 'Newly Weds'?

I think that's a bit of a stretch.

2003-01-01 05:12:19 PM
Oh! Oh!

It's Gene Gean, The Killing Machine!

Or something like that, those brain cells were victoms of chemical warfare attacks.

2003-01-01 07:05:15 PM

I always loved the Gong Show and Chuck Barris with his stupid hat.

The best half hour on TV in its time.

Favorite Gong Show memories, anyone? One of my faves was the group of guys doing a dance called "The Worm," in which they writhed around on the floor, keeping their arms and legs up against their bodies. They neither got gonged nor got any points; each time the music ended, Chuck would come out and yell, "One...more...time!" until finally they had to go to commercial.

DO THE WORM! Duuuunt, dunt da da dunt da da....

2003-01-01 11:23:01 PM

Barris also invented syndication.

2003-01-02 09:43:21 AM
And the unknown comic was, in fact, G. Gordon Liddy.

2003-01-02 10:40:40 AM
Ladies and Gentlemen...It's Gene, Gene, the Killing Machine!!!!

2003-01-02 11:54:30 AM

2003-01-02 09:59:51 PM
If it were true, wouldn't the CIA rub him out for writing a dumb book about it?
