All shows have automation problems during previews. Nothing to get alarmed about.

That theater is a tough space though. Not really built for a large scale show.

A swirling vortex of suck would be if Lydia Lunch had anything to do with it.

100 million for production?

Those shows make -that- much money that this would turn a profit, someday?

I thought Vegas shows were where the people who couldn't afford to gamble hung out...

J. Frank Parnell: Could it possibly suck more than this?

I don't think so.

Oh, i'm well aware of his past work. Saw that street magic thing when it was new and was very impressed. You have to admit that live footage from his "Dive of Death" was one of the saddest displays of "magic" we've probably ever witnessed, though. I actually feel sorry for him, dangling there while people scream "Are you serious?!" and "you suck!".

This is the first i've heard of it being a spoof, looks pretty genuine. People can make up their own minds and look into it.

Sometimes things don't work out perfectly, it happens.

Saw Cirque du Soliel live last year, loved it.

Also have 2 of the DVDs, is it trendy to hate CdS like Dane Cook or something?

I did not find their buffonery amusing.

Can a circus jump the shark?

I've been predicting that CdS would oversell themselves and begin to play out eventually.

Yes it can but I am sure it cost nothing near 100M. Most producers of legit shows lie about the cost (claiming lower numbers). Vegas producers grossly inflate the amount spent.

Whatever the final cost it includes a great number of expenses that most shows would not include.

I did a show in that exact theater and we made a great deal of profit over a 6 year run. This show will run 10 at least (if it dosent fail)

No, it's not the hating on CdS, it's the hating on Criss Angel. He's a douche.

I'll step up for Chris. As a hobbyist magician since I was about 3, I love seeing it done well. He does it very well. I caught Mindfreak when it was playing at the WWE theater (whatever it's called) in 2002. It was a very intimate display of close-up magic with people seated 270 degrees around the performing area. He did illusions that normal aren't done with more than 90 degrees of viewing angle, did a couple classics with panache, stuff like that. Nothing mindblowing or "shock magic." I was able to follow along and "know how it was done" for just about everything, but was still very entertained. After wards he shook hands with everyone as we were leaving and thanked us for coming.

He may qualify for "emo-douche" status with his hair, but as a magician he's damn good; a lot more entertaining than the Mindfreak TV show will lead you to believe.

\CDS is freakin' awesome, go see their shows

As mentioned, the hate's on Angel, and not CdS. And not because of trendy reasons. CdS would be a lot better off getting a talented nobody that they can build under their brandname, than this basic cable celebrity.

I heard it on "The Herd" too, the only reason I came looking for the link actually.

I just saw Believe two nights ago. I really had no expectations going in.

I've seen every other Vegas Cirque show and I loved them, but I wasn't expecting a typical Cirque performance out of Believe. The pre-show humor was there, and they had some funny parts during the show, but as far as the acrobatic stuff - I didn't think I'd see a lot of it, and I was right. I guess I was prepared for that, and some people weren't. The middle-aged, middle-to-high class in the crowd certainly weren't prepared.

I'm also pretty "meh" about Criss, so I wasn't looking to be blown away by his performance. It was a slightly hip, slightly edgy magic show and the members of the audience in head-to-toe Mindfreak crap went nuts for it. They treated it like a rock concert, actually.

One complaint of mine was that despite all of the magic tricks, there's no real show stopper at the end. There's no finale in the context of a "magic show" - the story wraps up, I guess, but it really needed one big bang at the end to feel complete. My other complaint was that the entire thing felt pretty self-indulgent. Again, I'm not a hardcore Criss fan, so I didn't get any extra enjoyment out of this being his story.

As the performance stands now, it's the weakest Cirque show but it was still interesting to see. I certainly wouldn't go back to see it again, which I've done with Love, O and Mystere.

I should note that Cirque would have a huge hit on their hands if they let the three "secondary" clowns from Believe host their own magic-themed show. They could do their goofy, horribly gimmicky act while a real Cirque show could be going on behind them. That would make for a funny, surreal trip that I would gladly pay to see.
