I guess that works better than their previous tactic of kicking in the door and shooting any elderly ladies inside.

It's a well-established fact that old ladies give off a pheromone in the air that has calming effects as a response to injury, thus making any hostiles more compliant.

Punch your grandma some time, and tell me that you don't feel calm wash over you.

As a resident of Atlanta, I'm thinking that we might need a tag just for this city. Or at least the Metro area, which at last count I think was about 38 counties, or roughly half the state.

maybe a next to Florida tag?

They said he fell asleep, not tortured to death.

Officers sneaked into the home and arrested him.

Is that proper english outside of the south?

this is better than the last one here in marietta. They loaded his pizza with ex-lax and waited for him to hit the john. The squad car was a mess. I mean, really, how do you get a stain like that out?

I concur, but it should read "Fulton County" since that's where the crazy shiat happens!

Okay, so let me see if I have this straight. According to the article, the two had an argument. He goes upstairs and she runs out of the house. Get barricades himself inside HIS OWN HOME, and he's now done something that warrants cops coming out and arresting him? I don't really see what this dude did wrong. The cops show up, say "you haven't really done anything wrong, but get out of your own home", he says "Uh, no, I don't want to" and that's an arrestable offense? WTF??

Possibly I'm clueless, but somebody needs to explain to me what the problem is.

When I was about 12, there was a 12-hour full SWAT team standoff in my neighbourhood with some guy who escaped from the mental ward at the hospital and barricaded himself inside a house. (Apparently he was armed with a crossbow, or so the other kids said.)

It ended the same way. He fell asleep, and they went in and got him.

But it was still quite exciting to watch when you're 12.

It's about bending over backwards and doing everything the cops want. It's not about right or wrong anymore.

The southern vernacular would replace "sneaked" with "snuck". YOU, sir, are doing it wrong.

You definitely do not "have this straight." Police receive a call, presumably to 911, about the argument the two were having. When they arrive at the scene, there's a woman there who says she's "escaped" from the guy; as in, she had been held there against her will prior to that point. Yeah, they're going to want to talk to him about disturbing the peace at a minimum, and possibly kidnapping; and can easily trump up demonstrate probable cause for an arrest. If he refuses to come along, well, that's a situation. He did the arrestable stuff well before locking his door.

Lynoitus: I guess that works better than their previous tactic of kicking in the door and shooting any elderly ladies inside.

I came in here to say this, but this was in Marietta. I think the DeKalb guys are still on the "shoot first, ask the corpse" plan.

Ashtrey: As a resident of Atlanta, I'm thinking that we might need a tag just for this city. Or at least the Metro area, which at last count I think was about 38 counties, or roughly half the state.

Last count was 50, not even 1/3 of the counties, about 1/7 of the state by area. The counties in the southern part of the state are a lot bigger than the ones in the less flat areas. Metro Atlanta's only about the size of New Jersey; Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi.

I see. The says she escaped when he went upstairs. I'd think if she WAS being held against her will, he wouldn't have left her alone. But yes, if that was the order of things, then it does make a little more sense. The article is somewhat vague.

There's good tax money out for bad. Paying officers overtime to wait for moran to go to sleep.

Would you prefer the cost of summoning the SWAT team to teargas/flashbang him? That equipment ain't cheap.

In one hostage situation, the dumbass demanded liquor. So they gave him liquor. With enough chloral hydrate in it to knock out an agitated elephant.

He woke up in the hospital, after having his stomach pumped.
