Great pics!

The kronur is down about 25% in the past year against the dollar. Now, instead of oppressively expensive, Iceland is just "expensive."

It's all over the place at the moment.. Saw a blurb somewhere today that most major credit card processing companies have the value somewhere between 130-230/dollar on transactions that end up being billed in dollars to the purchaser...

Iceland is $200,000 in debt for every man, woman or child there? Outrageous!

Thats how much? About equivalent to the US future liabilities for social security and medicare?

Clearly, Iceland was being totally irresponsible.

Those are some sweet pics.

Anyway, I'll take in any 16-18 year old females as personal slaves to pay off their portion of the debt to me.

So the US owes money to the chinese, the icelanders owe someone else, that someone else owes money to that guy over there...why can't we just have a massive economic convention, then settle accounts for folks the world over and calm this shiat down?

2008-10-09 06:04:42 PM
So what, every man woman and child in the US owes $29,000 in national debt.

Because it is all a scam against the people anyway.

The Reykjavik Grapevine put some perspective on things in The Skeleton Economy:

Despite watching our economy collapse in two weeks, the worst may be yet to come. A wave of bankruptcies is on the horizon, likely followed by unemployment, recession and general hardship.
It is a damn shame, really. We all thought we could work in big money-making factories and throw stress-balls around and make silly jokes about David Duchovny's sex addiction, but now it seems that the Icelandic voyage, as President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, called the foreign acquisitions adventure, has stranded.

Remember kids, Regulation would have prevented all these problems! Everyone knows European Banks are the least regulated part of the world's financial industries.

They don't get to tax people for the next 100 years in order to pay for future liabilities like in your example, because they owe it right now. Slight difference.

By that same standard, America carries $161,716 for every man/woman/child and that is from the end of last year

(google total debt to gdp, corporate + government + household = 350% of GDP at end of 2007. It was at 150% at the end of the 1970s, this entire supercycle was not growth but debt spending)
