Oh god that was cool!

Meh, it was like snowboarding in a white-out. There was really no way to appreciate or gauge the speed.

Been there, done that (almost, 180 in street clothes running from the law on a county road at night), don't really want to think about it.

/ got away.
// used up one of my lives.
/// seriously gives me the willies when I think about it now.

180, but wearing armored gear (but not leathers).

I got the need......for SPEED!

It's kind of funny that a bike capable of going 200mph needs two guys to push it to get it going.

This. 190 on the salt flats looks pretty much the same as 80, 110, and 140.

/now, 160 on the Schuylkill Expressway, just outside Philadelphia = scary as fark.

The tall gearing might have something to do with that

Meh, husband's Hayabusa does that, with the stock engine (pre-restrictor model). He's made it to 185/190, and I've only made it to 125ish.

It's fun!

My brother-in-law is a state trooper and he pursued a teenager who was doing 140 on his crotch rocket. When he finally pulled him over, he asked why he was going so fast. "I didn't think you could catch up." Future of America, ladies and gentlemen.

do that on the straight aways coming home. they spent all that money on a custom bike to do what the average joe can do with a stock bike?

Exactly.

Try this for 30 seconds. His front will comes back down to the road at around 140mph and goes on to much more than 200....

I've been passed by people on bikes going about this speed.. scary thing was, I was about to change lanes and pass the car ahead of me, I looked in the back mirror and saw a dot, then was about to put on my signal, looked again, and the dot was then two motorcycles directly behind me.

retarded on a public road.

2008-10-07 09:48:39 AM
for all the "my Busa does this stock folks"

the bike was a 900cc Triumph triple, NOT a 1300cc bike.....and doesnt have a stock top speed of anything near 200mph

Also top speed for that class at bonneville was 200.249 mph....
so getting such a small motor to go over 200mph is a pretty big accomplishment......oh, and on salt, not a paved surface.....

2008-10-07 09:57:41 AM
Here's Pynchon (his handle) on the the mountain section of the TT course. This is around race day where the roads are open to the public but are one way only. There's traffic and it's obvious he's insane, but he's not breaking the law in this video.

There's sound, but you have to turn it WAY up.

And, honestly, a stock Busa DOESN'T do 200+. Not even de-restricted. Close, but not quite.

First of all, it's "wheel".

Second, the speed is in kilometers per hour. He maxxed out the speedometer at 220 kph which is 137 mph.

Still a cool video since the trees really show how fast he was going.

Maybe all you FARK bikers can answer this for me: is there a reason to constantly rev the engine like that before he starts, or is he just doing it because it sounds cool?

2008-10-07 10:59:24 AM
That video needed more markers in the first person view. It was tough to tell how fast he was going with out a frame of reference.

Still pretty cool though.

Dunno about bikes, but race motors in cars are 'cammy', which makes them run rough, if at all, at lower RPMs. My FF will cough and die if I let it sit at idle, you always have to be blipping the throttle.

Considering the bike engine was tuned for maximum speed, it's lower then sustainable idle speed is probably a result of that. Normaly reving an engine like that over and over is a good way to flood it.

You don't like the movie because of the accent?

Who the hell watches a movie because of the accent and then doesn't like it because of the acccent? I couldn't care less if he speaks Russian with a Scottish accent. I liked the story. I'm from North America. How the hell would I know the difference between Australian and NZ accents? Why would I care?

I dunno, I've got an 1100cc bike and I think it's top speed is just above 140mph/225kmh that could just be gearing though. In all fairness it gets to that speed at an insane (at least insane for me) rate of speed. So I'm not sure how you guys with a stock 900cc bike could even approach 200mph, unless you've got more gears than a semi-truck

It's gear ratio my friend, not number of gears (hence the push start at the beginning). I'm not going to go over the principles since it's explained a billion times on the intertubes, but suffice it to say if your ratio approaches 1:1 the faster you go.

thanks for that FYI, but I'm pretty sure a 900cc stock bike isn't going to have a 1:1 gear ratio. I dunno though, I'm kinda newbie-ish to the bike scene. I work on the "I like how it rides, feels, and runs" principle in motorbikes it's not about high speeds for me.
