Hi-res cliches begin!
2002-12-29 04:35:42 PM
Do I have to?
2002-12-29 04:36:58 PM
betcha its full of nice bugs from the trusty micro$haft
2002-12-29 04:36:59 PM
wake me when sp3 is out
2002-12-29 04:37:10 PM
It would be cooler if it were DirectSex9, but that's just me.
2002-12-29 04:37:37 PM
i just got a radeon 9700. rock.
2002-12-29 04:38:49 PM
Ahh yes, I wish I had one of those. I'd probably waste the power anyway though. I'm happy enough with my Ti4200.
2002-12-29 04:39:17 PM
i am sooo last year (i have a geforce 3 ti200)
2002-12-29 04:39:51 PM
i got a geforce 2 ti :P

'The DirectX 9.0 runtime cannot be uninstalled. We recommend Windows Me and Windows XP users create a "System Restore" point before installing'

what's all this about?
2002-12-29 04:40:33 PM
Damn my HP Desktop and it's onboard non-AGP video.
2002-12-29 04:40:33 PM
Why would hy rejoice? There aren't any DX9 games out yet, are there? (other than the Doom III alpha leak)

I'm waiting for the GeforceFX. Faster, more precice color, better AA, etc. Then again, if the 9700 with faster memory comes out before then, I may be tempted to buy it, if the price is right.
2002-12-29 04:41:01 PM
im i an idiot, or do i not see the link that says "download" on the page? there is no download link?
2002-12-29 04:41:29 PM
DirectX9 for Linux will be out in another week I hear.

2002-12-29 04:42:02 PM

As a 9700 Pro owner let me tell you DX9 is too early, and crashes DX8 games.

Yes, you cannot get rid of it.

Yes, it sucks and if your games work fine DON'T install it.
2002-12-29 04:42:20 PM
Alph: You are an idiot. Look again.
2002-12-29 04:42:47 PM
Will DirectX 9 yield any performance boosts in DirectX 8 and earlier games?
2002-12-29 04:43:38 PM
All right! That means it will only be three years until there are any games that actually take advantage of it!
2002-12-29 04:44:16 PM
dude, still dont see it. where on the page is it?
2002-12-29 04:44:26 PM
Never upgraded DX before Kinkladzie-left-foot? You've never been able to uninstall directx for as long as I can remember.
That is, not being able to uninstall it from the add/remove prompt. There are a few programs floating around out there that "say" they can uninstall it, but I've never used them.

The system restore thing is a quasi autobackup in windows me and xp. Takes up a bunch of HD space and lets you "roll back" your system. Saved my ass a few times with viruses.
2002-12-29 04:44:38 PM
Link's on the right side, near the top of the text. (top of the white, under the oversized heading.)

This link just points you to windows update. Which won't have direct X 9 until Jan 7th. If you hunt around a little, you'll find a little advertisement that says DX9 and WMP 9.0 (final) will be out 1/7/03).

2002-12-29 04:45:22 PM
go here
2002-12-29 04:45:41 PM's only been a week since it's least the SDK has.

It supports C# though! w00t!....too bad i only have download for me. i'll have to get it downloaded on the school's t1
2002-12-29 04:45:41 PM
"All right! That means it will only be three years until there are any games that actually take advantage of it!"

April is the first I know of, Star Wars Galaxies. I believe more are coming out before that too. The early adoption is mainly due to the ease of writing code for it. I's not machine code, but a more C-like code that is easier to write and provides greater flexibility.
2002-12-29 04:46:42 PM
Games RoryD...haven't noticed anything different(running dx9 on xp pro w/ sp1).
Now MS Office on the other hand, much faster. Got me as to why.

Joo are blind Alph!
2002-12-29 04:46:48 PM
dude, thats what i thought, but its not a link on my page.

my guess is that since microsoft using dynamic HTML on their web pages, and since i have a version of D9X installed, it doesnt appear as a link on my page?

i dont know, but its just text for me
2002-12-29 04:47:01 PM
Alph, you're a smart guy. You should be an advisor for Dubya.
2002-12-29 04:47:36 PM
Alph is blind, and I can't do html.
This should be for the DX Setup file
2002-12-29 04:47:47 PM
I have a GForce 2 MX. HA, how low can you get?!

But fortunately, with a 1.5 GHz processor, my computer is running quite smoothly, and no problems with any games :D
2002-12-29 04:48:11 PM
nice and mediocre rory.
2002-12-29 04:48:57 PM
ugh, this has been out since the 19th
2002-12-29 04:49:33 PM
no, its not blind. someone istall D9X and see if the link still appears in your browsers.

you guys are lame
2002-12-29 04:49:37 PM
As a GeForce owner, let me tell you DX9 works fine and works with every DX8 game perfectly well.

ATi always make crappy drivers. Thats why i wont be touching one ever even if they are faster.
2002-12-29 04:50:08 PM
12-29-02 04:47:47 PM Forced-Rush

I can beat that. ATI Xpert2000 which uses the Rage 128 chipset. 32megs but still....this thing sucks
2002-12-29 04:51:12 PM
FatherG: I'm running a Creative 3D-Blaster in my Linux box. Nobody can beat that.
2002-12-29 04:51:32 PM
Hey blind boy, I just said I'm running DX9 and I html'ed the link to the setup file from the link above.
You're just blind, admit it and move on.
2002-12-29 04:52:45 PM
RoryD, if the game is based on DirectX 7, NO! I am basing this on my experience with Kyodai, a game that requires DirectX 7. Before with 8.x, Kyodai ran just fine, but something must have changed with Direct3D (or DirectDraw, one of them), that essentially kills Kyodai.

It sucks up CPUs and runs awfully. I mean bad. Kyodai, runs well on small machines quite well, and was running perfect before I upgraded to 9.
2002-12-29 04:54:08 PM
feh, screw that, my creative geforce2 annihilator pro runs everything perfectly fine
2002-12-29 04:55:10 PM

my only guess is that your computer is homosexual. Either that, or your browser is set to handle cookies and DHTML differently. All i got is that nifty text.
2002-12-29 04:56:47 PM
Thank you for posting that TheMatt, I couldn't figure out why Kyodai ran like snot after a month or so of having it. Downloaded the damn thing to get my g/f into videocrack, and she couldn't play it for more than 20 minutes before it would lock my old winme machine up.
Figures. Smooth one MS.
2002-12-29 04:58:12 PM
Funny. I can get the link fine and its my computer that is "homosexual".
You're just full of great comments today, aren't `cha?
2002-12-29 05:00:24 PM
c# programmers rejoice, too..
2002-12-29 05:01:47 PM
I have GeForce2 MX/1.5 ghz as well. Half-life runs fine at 100 fps (no suprise there), but the newer over-the-top games such as Splinter Cell will only run in 800X600.
2002-12-29 05:02:48 PM
actually, i liked that comment, but im just trying to sort this out purely for the sake of curiosity, and remarks like, Alph, you're a smart guy. You should be an advisor for Dubya. from real creative people are starting to make me defensive.

obviously. some people just cant grasp the concept that the link doesnt appear in my browser, despite my attempted explanation of it for the half wits
2002-12-29 05:08:18 PM
Obviously the one-quarter wits such as Alph don't know that you can download the same file from multiple places on the internet. Why don't you try smart-a$$?
2002-12-29 05:08:26 PM
i am not installing this shiat. all games are perfectly fine anyway, past expierences have not been too good with directx.
2002-12-29 05:09:30 PM
Ok geniuses.

Go to

But don't say I didn't warn you.
2002-12-29 05:10:02 PM
Alph-Don't look for a link, look for the "GO" button on the right side next to the language pull down menu-this takes you to the download page.
Hope this helps:)
2002-12-29 05:11:36 PM
Gee Wally.. that would be swell if I could afford a Radeon 9700.

I just bought a Ti4400 to replace my Geforce 2. Yeah.. I could have put some extra cash out for the 9700 or a 4600, but I try to go a little below the top of the line stuff to save $$. The saved cash will be going twoards a Sony DVD burner.
2002-12-29 05:11:42 PM
Does anyone know if this works OK with a geforce 4 ti 4600?

I dont have enough open hard drive space to make a system restore point...
