I put Bank of America in the final four, actually. Those guys play a mean offense.

2008-09-30 11:29:26 AM
Bank of America
Barack Obama
The U.S. Federal Reserve
The Queen of England

Then Barack will face off against the old lady with the crown and Barack wins the World Title!

This should be a top choice headline for 2008, if there is still a working Internet by the end of the year

Great headline, even if the brackets don't include Phil Gramm.

Don't worry, keeping the internet running is part of "protecting the space-time continuum." Al Gore will keep it going.

Probably just their scheduled monthly hack. They'll be up tomorrow and your account will be banned. There will be a form written in 8 months where you can re-enable your account. It won't work.

Going to put in some money for JPMorganChase. I worked for them last year and it seemed like they were losing ground when I was fired.

What could go wrong with that?

this is funny and all, but Barklays? Author shouldnt have let his son make his bracket.

JP Morgan Chase FTW, unless Christian Laettner gets a job at Wells Fargo...then he will make some last second power trades and single handedly destroy the worlds economy. JP Morgan will go on to win at least 2 more championships and STILL be the most storied program in the universe

3/28/92, never forget

The Beltway Crash
Congress lives up to its 10% approval rating.
(new window)

America has survived a feckless political class in the past, and it will again after this week. But Monday's crash and burn of the Paulson plan on Capitol Hill reveals a Washington elite that has earned every bit of the disdain that Americans have for it. This crowd can't even make sausage.
[The Beltway Crash] AP

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ( D-Calif.) with Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) Monday, Sept. 29, 2008.

The 228-205 defeat reflects badly on all concerned, starting with the Democrats who run the House. The majority party is responsible for assembling a majority vote, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi failed in that fundamental task.

Her highly partisan speech on the floor -- blaming "right-wing ideology of anything goes, no supervision, no discipline, no regulation" for the financial distress -- is no excuse for Republicans to vote no. But it is indicative of the way she has governed for the past two years -- like Tom DeLay without the charm. The cynics are saying Ms. Pelosi deliberately tanked the bill by giving 95 Democrats a pass, knowing failure would hurt John McCain, and given her track record we can see why people would believe it.

I think many of the banks should close. We need to restrict the availability of the dollar, its gone up and oil has gone down. We will be in better shape then injecting 700b in. Well from what little info we are given about the whole crisis anyway.

headline eh, brackets at the link - awesome.

Heck, my local team WAMU was out in Round three, Wonder how Bank Of America is doing (bank of cal bought seafirst, was bought by BoA)

Too many mergers in the banking industry these past 20 years.

Fidelity, bought by Ranier, Bought by Peoples, Bought by US Bank

fidelity was awsome, Ranier OK, Peoples sucked, and US Bank is so very sucky that they just suck suck suck.

now banks via credit union.

US Bank is so very sucky that they just suck suck suck.

This. I've been a customer there since I was born, and it was called Mercantile. 0.25% for a Money Market account. No thanks. Time to go shopping. I'm thinking USAA or SAC Federal Credit Union.

2008-09-30 01:07:08 PM
Depends, how many other banks will have dumb as shiat patrons who do a 16 billion dollar run on the bank in 8 days, thus causing solvency until 2010 into a liquidity crisis?

I'm a bit bitter about Wamu. I hate every single idiot who withdrew their money, causing the very problem they claimed to fear. It's guaranteed that none of those idiots had over 100k that the FDIC would insure.

No Banco Santander? Or are they just in a higher league than some of these other banks in the brackets?

2008-09-30 01:14:41 PM
Wells Fargo out?

I see disagreement.

this is starting to look like the most reliable option, sadly. It's only a matter of time before we're spamming random Nigerians asking for their bank account numbers.

Sigh.

Do I get to keep my winnings if I win the brackets, or does that disappear in a puff of smoke also?

Subby hit it right out of the park.

FWIW, Bank of New York, FTW.
