Ya know just because I can get fruit salad instead of fries, doesn't make it a healthy choice restaurant.

/guarantee 1/50 order something other than fries or mashed potatoes & gravy
//not even talking about breakfast orders yet

That's right, go to Denny's and save on calories, because it's so terrible you won't be able to eat.

Lazy reporters. They only named chain restaurants. There are probably 10 local restaurants in any medium sized city that would be far better than those salt n' grease factories.

Don't forget the GMOs and melamine laced dairy products!

None of these places sell Luthers or hamdogs?

These MSNBC "adjective-est" restaurant links are always a list of chain restaurants. We get one greened every two weeks or so and they're always completely pointless.

Being that on one occasion my brother discovered chewing gum in his food and on another occasion, I found the center of my hamburger ordered at a separate location to be frozen solid, I am getting a kick out of these replies.

Wouldn't eat there again if you paid me.

On what farking grounds do they make this list? I mean, this is just plain lying, out and farking out.

Really, Denny's? By which standard... the one they claim on there site and in all the nutritional info, or how its actually cooked? Having worked in a restaurant at one time in my life, I can tell you that we over used grease and oil to keep the cooking moving forward. Sure, if you flipped a patty every few seconds it wouldn't stick, but when you are dealing with a dozen of them at once, a nice layer of "Sysco Cooking Oil" (whatever the hell it actually is) helps a lot. A couple of extra scoops of butter tossed in with the taters can help keep them moist all night, and does wonders for the taste. There are dozens of things very much like these examples that remove any and all ability for a restaurant to really ever "gauge" the healthfulness of its food, unless the healthful qualities are a part of the process.

Olive Garden might have less known cancer causing elements in their food then lets say, Dominos Pizza, but they BOTH use heavily refined, bleached flours, gluten added bread, and High Fructose Corn Syrup in there sauces. Oh, on an aside, HFCS are deadly BECAUSE THE BODY DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH THE EXCESS FRUCTOSE! The body releases insulin in response to GLUCOSE, which in table sugar, is roughly equal to the content of fructose. In HFCS, that extra fructose stays in the body and is converted to fat sometimes, and other times finds its way to the liver, where it sort of sits and collects from what I understand.

This is not a list of "healthy" restaurants as much as it is a list of the least toxic "chains". If you need to eat out (friends, travel, etc.) then this list will help you find the place least likely to make you need to spend a few hours in the bathroom, but none of those places are good "diet" choices, I do not think.

The "standard" used is who paid for the press release that some lazy reporter reprinted. Seriously, most of the entries on this list are among the most UNHEALTHY restaurants in America. This "story" smacks of corporate whitewashing.

Oh, please. Cracker Barrel and Denney's aren't even related. One's "Half Country Store / Half Restaurant" and one's a 1950's diner.

or to put it another way, one's full of rednecks, and one has pre-civil rights decor. The food overlaps a bit, though.

/personally, I've never noticed any discriminatory practices at either.

People have to get up in arms about something. This year, it's HFCS

It seems a little odd they would list Chipotle as one of the best fast food places health-wise, with a pic of the chicken burrito considering that item is on most least-healthy lists. They all tell you to cut it in half.

Well if you can get waited on at Denny's. The last time I went there I left after sitting for 15 minutes no drinks no waitress. And the time before that once the waitress finally showed up with our food she never came back. Everyone at her stations got tried of waiting for her to come back we all just went to the soda machine and helped ourselves. She learned a very important lesson that day no serve = no tip.
And Cracker Barrel YUCK the final straw was when I got food poisoning. Another place where it's good luck to you to get waited on.
Pick either place and it's guarenteed you'll be on the can the rest of the day.

Yeah, haven't you heard that it's made from corn, and just fine in moderation?

/those commercials make me want to stab someone in the skull with a letter opener. Since when does sugary punch or cereal have a "moderate" amount of sweetener?

Here, argue with this. (new window)

Here is the long hand, if you prefer. (new window)

If, after reviewing all available data on hand, and still choosing to consume HFCS... meh. This information is not really aimed at you. Its at those still sort of on the fence. You know, the ones the commercials about HFCS being "alright in moderation" are aimed at? You, you have your mind more or less made up, as do I. Given that, we can agree to disagree, or we can sling poop at one another. Your call.

No. No it isn't. I used to work there, and trust me on this. Its not healthy, and even while I was working there I did not eat it, the most I will go to dennys for is endless coffee, and wi fi. But really, I don't care how drunk you are, or what the other choices are, do not eat there. I've worked in a lot of food service. Ill eat other places, but NEVER dennys.

2008-09-29 04:10:35 PM
No way Olive Garden is one of the healthiest when their big promotion is all you can eat pasta.

2008-09-29 04:18:06 PM
It is amazing that after all this time there are still so many people who think that eating fat is bad for you, or will cause you to produce fat.

Since evidently a lot of you have not heard, it isn't eating fat that is unhealthy, it is overeating, anything, and eating trans-fats, and not getting the right balance of foods that is bad for you.

Having a nice breakfast with ham or bacon occasionally is not unhealthy at all, NOT AT ALL, not even a little bit. Only if you eat a lot of high calorie food all this time is it a problem.

/Or if you never exercise.
//Or if you consume vast amounts of sodium.
///Eggs don't have the bad type of cholesterol either.

2008-09-29 04:19:08 PM
I'll admit it: Years ago, after late-night drunkery, our group would descend on Denny's. It was (and still is) the only place open 24 hours (although you really shouldn't say you're "open" if your "kitchen" is "closed" FYI). But that was when it was cheap, and you could get one of those breakfast slams for $2.99 (+tax). Now Denny's is charging $8.99 (+tax) for the same food, in smaller portions.

/no Denny's you can't has real restaurant
//not yours

2008-09-29 04:25:30 PM
Waffle House is open 24 hours, and has better food than Denney's even if not as wide a variety. It's faster, the service is usually better, and you can watch them cook it. I go to both, but by preference I go to WH unless I want something they don't have.

For some reason, that "waffle house is ..." line came into my head sounding like "Fire mares can run a thousand leagues in a day."
