I had a similar sort of problem with Jennifer Convertibles over the delivery of a sofabed. After the third delivery of the SAME WRONG SOFA (the delivery guys looked really sheepish -- even they knew it was wrong), I called the company and said "WTF I'm canceling this order and if you even THINK of actually charging me the $250 order cancellation fee (which the contract specifically stated was applicable even in the event of error by the company), I'm going straight to the FTC".

I got my money back (by challenging the charge on my credit card), and basically never heard from them again.

It's interesting what threatening to report someone to the FTC will accomplish.

This asshat paid over $3000 for a freaking couch?

That's definitely a sign the economy is turning around.

He can get the same kind of treatment from Craigslist, and for a whole lot less.

I got an idea: every time any company does not fulfill its services with 100% quality to anyone of its customers, let's have a fark article about it!

Once again the Consumerist makes me not care for the consumer.

Meh. They're furniture is crap. The only thing that is nice is their leather products, but mainly because they are the only thing made in America. You can actually buy the same leather couches at Macy's if you don't want to deal with them. Every thing else is a POS. Lamps fall apart. Candles are always jacked. The plates never match. The $3000 tables are all made of MDF with a tiny veneer on top.

/if you have to buy from PB, buy the outdoor furniture or the leather goods
//used to work there
///everything broke really easy
////returns were fun to destroy though

Let's make you more angry. That amount? Yeah, it was for the slipcover. Not the couch. Just the fabric that goes OVER the couch.

No, it was for the couch AND the custom slipcover. They got the couch and 1 of the slipcovers. Then it became a total farce.

They're? Jeez I suck.

This guy is a sucker. And whiny. Needs to grow a pair and tell them what's what. Then maybe people won't think he's gay. Because he got his money back from Pottery Barn.

Pottery Barn. For when you absolutely have to let everybody know that your crap costs more.

2008-09-26 10:21:47 PM
Poor buying decision, when I think "Sofa" I don't think "Pottery Barn" maybe it's just the name, but it's like ordering seafood at a steakhouse.

Like a friend buying a Mercedes she couldn't afford, it's a mechanical craptacular, spends more time in the shop getting it repaired than on the road, all for the bling but no substance, it's a different product but same idea, sometimes you just can't feel sorry for people who make poor decisions.

I have no real opinion on Pottery Barn, because it's a little too traditional for my tastes.

I do have a loft full of Crate & Barrel pieces (because, unfortunately I cannot afford Design Within Reach...) and I will tell anyone and everyone, save your money and don't order or buy pieces from Pottery Barn.

It doesn't hold up well (but they do send people to repair it) and their deliveries suck.

THIS is why you always take delivery FROM THE STORE, no "special orders" if it is in stock and you want it get it from that store.

I'm a little surprised at AMEX since this was an ongoing order, and there is a verifiable history to check.

I have an IKEA Ektorp three-seater sofa, and it's wonderful. Bought it on sale last year for the equivalent of about $630.

It was delivered the next day, on time.

"On May 22, we ordered a nice three piece slip-covered sectional, for over $3300."

Good god man...he must have used his stimulation check or somthins.

Pottery Barn doesn't carry their couches in stock. All are manufactured for the consumer at the plant. Only thing you can buy in store is some tables & chairs, lamps, rugs, candles, plates, knick-knacks & bedding. All upholstered chairs (leather or fabric) will always be "special order" since it is all made to spec.

/well as spec as the catalog allows you
//they rarely sell floor models on couches unless it's an "old model" or they have extras
