It's interesting to see how all this ghost clap-trap has evolved to try to keep up with science. It's no longer just disembodied spirits roaming the earth, now we have "residual energy" that is not technically a spirit. Uh huh.

One question I've never heard answered by ghost hunters is this: if a ghost/spirit is supposed to be the soul of a departed person, why do people see them wearing clothes? How could the clothes (without this so-called 'energy') possibly retain an appearance in the afterlife?

It couldn't just be people seeing what they want to see, could it?

I personally think that THE STONE TAPE (Google it, guys) may have
it right about the nature of ghosts.

Most likely, though, its geomagnetic influences or simply the human
pattern-recognition engine running at overtime.

Purely speculation, but it may be the way people's brains are wired to pick up on this 'residual energy.'

I've never seen a ghost. But our family has had some strange occurrences happen. And I've had a "sense" of a room once, to be later told someone died in it from choking on food.

I'm still pissed that as a kid I thought you could actually get a PHD in para-psychology thanks to that movie. At least now, with my qualifications, I'm up for a top flight job in the housekeeping or food service industries.

Duke had a parapsychology department up until the mid-1980's, when funding ran out. Because it sucked, of course.

Maybe ghosts project themselves in the same way that they see themselves. And they see themselves how they looked physically before they died.

That's just a total guess though...

Allow me to introduce you to my friend "Confirmation Bias". How many times did you have a "sense" that meant nothing at all? How many times have you felt nothing where kittens were brutally murdered?

Which is not normal behavior:

1) Sleeping under the covers.
2) Sleeping on top of the covers.
3) Sleeping on top of the covers.....6' on top of the covers.
4) none of the above.

"Would I like some coffee?"

"Yes, have some"

"Yes, have some"

No doubt the class will involve an experiment where people have to guess what symbol is on a card. If you guess wrong, you get a small electric shock.

Obviously, that will quickly change, where the nerdy psychic guy will get electricuted every time (even when he's right), and the hot blond will never get a jolt.

2008-09-22 05:49:35 PM
As I tell my classes: Can you imagine a series on cable called 'Ghost Hunters' and they never find any ghosts?

highendmighty: This seem ripe for a "Tuition goes where?" LOL-IMAL.

Except that wouldn't be remotely relevant to this story.

Uh huh.

So we have wiring that causes us to imagine clothes that aren't there (i.e. our minds are wired to make up bullshat out of nothing), and we should apply this theory to the CLOTHES ghosts wear... Instead of, I don't know, applying it to the WHOLE ghost?
