The only reason I looked at the article was to see how much the guy looked like Steve Martin. What? No photo? Not even a mention of this douche coach?

Bad subby.

Aye. I doubt all that many people are Vandy fans per se but I'm sure a lot of people root for them, if that makes any sense.

He looks like someone else but I can't think of the name at the moment, it's one of those 'he looks like someone but I can't put my finger on it' deals.

Quick!
Name all the SEC teams which scheduled two BCS OOC opponents and no FCS cupcakes:

Florida! (Nope, Citadel)

Auburn! (Nope, Tennessee-Martin)

Georgia! (Nope, Georgia Southern)

'Bama! (Almost, Clemson is only BCS OOC)

Tennessee? (Almost, UCLA is only BCS OOC)

Surely LSU? (Hell no. App St and *no* BCS OOC)

Vandy? Yes, indeed. Miami (OH), Rice, Duke, and Wake Forest.

/SEC sucks (at scheduling cupcakes)
//Except for Vandy who deserves much respect
//And Tennessee and Alabama who didn't cupcake at all
///Yes, Appalachian State is a cupcake

Makes perfect sense. Even before I had a brother-in-law who went to Vandy, I always was in favor of them doing well, just on general principle.

Bearing in mind they play Auburn next, I think it would be cruel to rank them at this point.

2008-09-21 09:35:05 AM
Auburn is not looking good right now. They could only score 5 (3 for them, 2 for MSU) against Miss St, which is a horrible, horrible team. Their vaunted defense finally got a true test last night against LSU, and gave up 398 yards. That Meerkat offense is still a joke (but for LSU mistakes, the game wouldn't have been close), and there's dissension in the fanbase and, I hear, on the team. Vandy could be favored against AU.

Never thought I'd see the day that happened. Maybe eliminating the athletic department _was_ a good idea :)

I am dumber for reading this. Where the fark do you get your information? Bama scheduled Western Kentucky (7-5 against mostly 1-AA teams) and Arkansas State (losing record in the Sun Belt last year). Tennessee played a UAB team coming off a 2-10 season, a Wyoming team that went 5-7 in the MWC last year, and a Northern Illinois team coming off a 2-10 season.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot the coup de gras: you're giving Vandy credit for scheduling a BCS opponent...Duke. Bravo.

Uh... did you actually read the post? His point was Vandy was the only team to schedule two out-of-conference games against BCS schools. I think you proved his point, there.

Of course, scheduling Duke ain't exactly more impressive than scheduling Appalachian State to me, so I'm not sure his point was really valid, but his facts were right on the money.

2008-09-21 10:45:18 AM
shiat, App. State could probably wind up second in the Pac-1-0 (the one is for SC, the rest of the conference is a bunch of zeroes) or the ACC.

That wasn't his point. If it had been, then he couldn't have included Georgia in there (arizona state and georgia tech). His original point was OOC AND no cupcakes. And then went on to list Rice and Duke as quality opponents. So yeah, we are all dumber for reading it.

Awesome for Vandy!

This makes the University of South Carolina the new bottom feeder/ punchline of the conference.

They did this in 2005. Started 4-0, won in Knoxville at the end of the year. Problem was they lost 6 straight in between those (1 to farking Middle Tennessee State) and missed a bowl.

When I saw Jake Locker called for excessive celebration two weeks ago all I could think of was that BS penalty called on Vandy when they lost to Florida that year. Ugh.

Ryan Hamilton getting some love from ESPN. Even they had to pay attention after he had three INTs. Hopefully Nickson's injury isn't too severe and he'll be good to go against Auburn. What are the odds of it being on national TV two weeks from now?

Again, someone calls UGA's strength of schedule into play. UGA obviously has the hardest schedule in the nation, according to almost every farking sports media outlet.

That's the spelling based on the Latin root of the word. I've been told that "grace"(I don't feel like typing the accent circumflex) and "gras" are correct.

2008-09-21 12:32:17 PM
As mentioned above, 4-0 is a great start, but there's still eight games to go, and in Vandy's world, anything can happen.

Regardless, I'm proud of the boys...

The word "gras" is the French word for fat or grease. The Latin first-declension term "gratia" is the root of the English word "grace."

Latin, French, English ... fail all around.

Oh, and though the AP rankings aren't out yet, Vandy's already ranked 25 in the ESPNU Allstate Standings.

I know it's not the same thing, but it's something, and I'm refreshing the hell outta that page waiting for the new AP polls to come out.

Root words may not have the same meanings as their extensions. Either way dude, "gras" is just as acceptable as "grace".
