Stupid Medve... I mean Putin.

Cruise missiles don't care about AAA.

2008-09-18 10:57:47 AM
Bravo, Russia. They just successfully trolled Iran by selling them a bunch of crappy and inaccurate surface to air rockets with a 20,000 feet altitude range.

Who gives a shiat? Seriously, go cry about something else.

Remember who signed the non-proliferation agreement and who didn't.

2008-09-18 11:01:25 AM
Well, they are supposed to be a sovereign nation. They have a right to defend themselves.

dj4aces: Remember who signed the non-proliferation agreement and who didn't.

I didn't see mention of India, Pakistan, Israel (never signed) or North Korea (withdrew) in the article.

The Onanist: Well, they are supposed to be a sovereign nation. They have a right to defend themselves.

That word doesn't mean what it used to mean. And yes, it will come back around to bite the U.S.'s ass.

Given that Russian anti-aircraft equipment has demonstrated that it is essentially useless against modern equipment and tactics, why do countries like Iran still pump hundreds of millions of dollars into it?

The Onanist: Well, they are supposed to be a sovereign nation. They have a right to defend themselves.

No one's criticizing Iran for buying weapons; they're criticizing Russia for selling them.

It's the Wal-Mart mentality. Why do people spend so much money on useless crap in America? They think they need it.

It's the same reason Iran is buying useless crap. They think they need it.

2008-09-18 12:35:12 PM
Well, if it's "useless" equipment, why is anybody concerned about the sale?

keylock71: Well, if it's "useless" equipment, why is anybody concerned about the sale?

Iran is "public enemy number 1" so they're just mad that Russia is buddying up to the "bad guy."

It is default policy of any country to complain about any weapon systems that would be sold to a potential adversary state. Why did the Chinese complain about the sale of Kidd class destroyers to Taiwan? They are great ships, but they wouldn't last long when hunted by the Chinese Air Force.

It is also an indication of a ratcheting up of hostilities.

Looks like a fun trade-show (new window), a real whos' who of international arms sales.

Take note of the exhibitor list if your looking for places to invest instead of those lame mutual funds or IRAs, war is a business that never goes out of style.

2008-09-18 01:47:52 PM
That's ok. The Russians lost the instruction manuals to those things ages ago

2008-09-18 01:48:18 PM
I'm shocked Russia would sell a friendly nation weaponry.

2008-09-18 01:48:46 PM
Ain't no antiaircraft gear that stops a cruise missile. That's why they're so cruise-riffic.

This. All these will do is protect them from a surprise attack from the 1970s.

Just like the useless bunker busters that Israel just purchased?

WWIII has already started. There just hasn't been a battle yet.

This the same stuff that protected the Syrian nuke site? The Iranians would have been better off sending a small deposit to that Nigerian government official.

2008-09-18 01:49:40 PM
This will make it harder for Obama to do "whatever it takes" to prevent Iran from getting nukes.

2008-09-18 01:49:47 PM
Hopefully they will use the same technology that worked so well in Iraq.

F-22's won't be detected until it is too late...for them.

"Hi there!"

Don't worry, Iran actually only bought one. They'll just use that one and Photoshop it a few hundred times.

AAHAHAHAHAHA....wait...which is the funny part

2008-09-18 01:52:48 PM
This mostly mean we can't use p-38's to bomb them anymore. We have to actually break out the jet aircraft.

2008-09-18 01:53:02 PM
I heard that these missiles travel faster than the speed of light and can take out a platoon of f22s before they even know what hit them. We might as well give up now that Iran has this advanced military technology.

/snark over.

I'm just here for the Iranian missile photoshops. Don't mind me.

From the weapon's wiki:
Although none of the S-300 versions have ever fired a missile in a real conflict, it is considered a very capable SAM system. In April 2005, NATO had a combat exercise in France and Germany called Trial Hammer 05 to practice SEAD missions.[9] Participating countries were pleased that the Slovak Air Force brought a S-300PMU along, providing a unique opportunity for NATO to get familiar with the system.

I'd hate to be the guys manning that equipment when Israel attacks...

2008-09-18 01:55:42 PM
I wouldn't worry much. No country on Earth, not even Russia, has military technology that can take out our most advanced bombers. If bombing becomes necessary, it will be done.

That being said, I still hope for a diplomatic resolution because we can't afford another war anytime soon.

Jewbag: Bravo, Russia. They just successfully trolled Iran by selling them a bunch of crappy and inaccurate surface to air rockets with a 20,000 feet altitude range.

We saw how well Russian equipment worked when Israeli jets flew into Syria and bombed them.

HotWingConspiracy: I can't believe these people have the gall to defend themselves.

Nahhhhh!
You think? Lets see . . . they threaten genocide toward Israel.
They thumb their noses at the rest of the world about their production of fissionable materials, and in turn wish to build bombs with said fissionable materials at the nation mentioned above.

Defend themselves? They're acting like some douche-bag kid who makes threats against the other kids in the school yard, but when someone takes the bait and threatens to bloody their nose a little the douche runs to their big brother for help.

They're gonna reap what they sow.

Why would anyone bomb the Iraqi-Afghan boarder? Am I missing something here?

2008-09-18 01:56:07 PM
It's amazing that Russia has and sold technology which can detect and reach our B2s.

Oh wait, they just cheated Iran out of a few mil. Good job.

Oh, and get batteries. Lots.

Anti-Aircraft-Artillery, referring back to time or proximity fuzed fragmentation shells that were fired into bomber formations.

Entente Cordiale.

One hundred years later.

But without the French and Britishness. And with Iranian and Russianness.

If it really is the S-300PMU-2, then that is far from the truth. They got themselves some nice missiles there.

I don't know if it's so much to stop the US. I don't imagine Israel wants Iran to have nuclear capabilities either. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to take out targets in Iran like they did with the nuke plant in Iraq.

/Wonders is Israel has cruise missiles....
