Thanks a lot, former member of the Democratic National Committee's Platform Committee and former member of the DNC's Democrats Abroad. You dumb coont.

You can be an elitist and think someone else is an elitist.

For example, I'm a jerk, but I can still think others are jerks as well.

I think both Obama and McCain are elitists. No big deal. Most politicians are.

I think she's right.
I think it's about time we all got right down to it, took a good look at the candidates and their positions, and cast our votes based entirely on genitalia.

See, this is how the republican message of prosperity works, and why white working-class people like the republican party that continually anally rapes them.

It's because they love rich people. They love rich people so much that they can't even stand it.

And the republican party loves their votes.

So they tell them, "We're gonna remove all the obstacles to the accumulation of wealth, so that when you get wealthy - which surely you will if you work hard and keep voting republican - you'll have it even better than we do!"

Which is an absurd, cruel lie. But this is why people who make less than $40,000 per year support tax cuts for the rich.

The democrats, on the other hand, realize that most of the lower and lower-middle classes are never, ever going to get ahead. And neither will their children, or their children's children. Some people are going to be poor for their entire lives. Some people really are born with a saddle on their back. It's unfair, and something ought to be done about it.

So ask yourself. If you're in a bad place, which friend makes you feel better: The rich one who treats you like a charity case, or the rich one who treats you like a peer?

You can be as elite as you want, as long as you don't get too uppity and act like you have something to offer the world.

That's true if you're rich. Where I live all the hillbillies say that Obama is Unamerican, a secret muslim, a communist, etc.

Never do they say it is because he is black, like it is secret that is the reason they aren't voting for him.

I've heard this one quite a bit, too. I generally regard it as code for "it's because he's black but I'm not going to come right out and say it." In this broad's case I'd say it's the money and the penis.

Anybody stupid enough to use "elitist" as the reason they are not voting for the black guy, but instead voting for the old rich white guy...yes, they are racist and they are using "elitist" because if they say "it's a black guy and I won't vote for a black guy" then they'll be considered racist.

How much further back can the women's movement be pushed by these crazies? I mean, damn... so many high profile women being so totally irrational doesn't do any favors to women's groups.

That said, I am really getting tired of people calling these folks "coonts." I don't think there was any sexist bias in the primaries, but you wouldn't know it from looking at Fark forums.

Can we Obama supporters just agree to stop that? Is it really necessary?

"This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don't like him," Lynn Forester de Rothschild said of Obama in an interview with CNN's Joe Johns. "I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him."

And there is nothing wrong with that.

I think 'elitist' is losing all meaning this campaign cycle. When Republicans talk about 'elitists' it has nothing to do with money; it has everything to do with looking down on people for how they live - not 'Green' enough; not 'Progressive' enough; not enough 'Latte Sipping and Arugula'; not enough 'Healthy Exercise'.

Where I get a little confused is where the Radical Right comes out trying to tell people how to live their lives according to The Jesus. Isn't looking down your nose at people for 'Poor Morals', 'Aborting Babies', and 'Not Loving the Country No Matter What' just as condescending?

I find it worse so, actually, because while Dems say "You're a piss-poor human being", Republicans threaten eternal damnation.

Just my thoughts...

2008-09-17 10:34:46 AM
Oh, and what evidence is there that Obama is an elitist? The arugula line? He was talking to farmer's for chrissakes, who, in case you didn't realize, grow the farking arugula! It doesn't just sprout from your plate if you are suitably yuppified. You actually grow it. In the dirt. In Iowa. Where he said the line.

The bitter line? Yes, it was a dumb thing to say. But he was answering a question about what to do if faced with racism and anger towards democrats and Obama in general while canvassing in PA. Trying to explain why people are angry isn't elitist. If he had said, well just move on, those dumb hicks will never vote for me anyway, that would be elitist.

He's probably the most normal down-to-earth presidential candidate we've had in 50 years, and if these rich whackjobs knew that arugula grew in the ground, and poor people ARE angry, they would know it.

Fark is made up of a bunch of twenty-something males who have never gotten laid in their lives. They spent their youths playing World of Warcraft and Counterstrike and now let out their sexual frustration via the world wide web. It all goes back to that babe cheerleader that wouldn't be caught dead talking to some pimple-faced, flabby, and four-eyed nerd. So, day in and day out they make fun of and attack every woman they possibly can. Be it political views, musical style, or, if all else fails, sharp knees, one thing you can be sure of: it's going to happen. If the real world were just like Fark it would be a very scary place. Luckily for the rest of us, misogyny like we see here only exists around Taliban campfires.

It's not the only reason but it does not help. Anyone that votes based on a single reason is a farktard.

Diogenes: Personal money, yes. But what about her business?

Her personal business? You really think she is working on a 9 to 5 to make the rent check? Odds are it is just something to keep her busy and it looks better than "heiress" on a calling card. You think that Nicky Hilton cares what percentage of tax she pays on her hand bag empire?!? Even if she is working her fingers to the bone everyday it's not for the money.

dgc360: taxes on the top 1.1%, you mean.

Taxes are taxes. I personally hope that the rich keep buying like drunken sailor on shore leave. Hell even Ted Kennedy had to admit that trickle down economics is real.

Inside Politics: A hard-earned lesson
The Washington Times ^ | January 7, 2003 | Greg Pierce

"Most Americans celebrated as the ball fell in Times Square New Year's Eve. But for auto dealers this new year is especially sweet. January 1 marked the expiration of the federal luxury tax on cars, the last vestige of the destructive luxury tax package in the infamous 1990 budget deal," the Wall Street Journal says.

"Starting in 1991, Washington levied a 10 percent tax on cars valued above $30,000, boats above $100,000, jewelry and furs above $10,000 and private planes above $250,000. Democrats like Ted Kennedy and then-Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell crowed publicly about how the rich would finally be paying their fair share and privately about convincing President George H.W. Bush to renounce his 'no new taxes' pledge," the newspaper said in an editorial.

"But it wasn't long before even those die-hard class warriors noticed they'd badly missed their mark. The taxes took in $97 million less in their first year than had been projected - for the simple reason that people were buying a lot fewer of these goods. Boat building, a key industry in Messrs. Mitchell and Kennedy's home states of Maine and Massachusetts, was particularly hard hit. Yacht retailers reported a 77 percent drop in sales that year, while boat builders estimated layoffs at 25,000. With bipartisan support, all but the car tax was repealed in 1993, and in 1996 Congress voted to phase that out too. January 1 was disappearance day.

"The end of any federal tax is such a rarity that it's well worth celebrating. And the luxury-tax lesson of economic damage is worth keeping in mind as politicians begin to wail that President Bush's new tax proposals aren't punitive enough on the rich."

I really don't understand WHY people have a problem with elitists RUNNING THE FREE WORLD!

Here's a question I asked my brother, who isn't sure who he's gonna vote for, because he hates Republicans, but doesn't think Obama can "understand his life":

"Let's say your daughter had a rare, life- threatening brain tumor. Would you want the smartest, best surgeon on the planet to operate on her, or the guy that seems cool?"

You just need to refocus the question. My brother cannot conceptualize how much work is required to be president, and how important it is to be THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB! However, when I put it in terms of "Your kid's life", it makes sense.

I would think that the other 99% of America would enjoy having their taxes cut.

Who does McCain say "OMG OBAMA WILL RAISE YER TAXES" to? The rich? fark no, he says that to the middle class who accept it like suckers.

Because if someone really is elitist (they think they know better than the individual) there is a very real worry that such a person would codify their personal beliefs into law to force others to act the same way.
