This story just gave me an idea for a photoshop contest. Make a car window sign for the mother described in the story.

I farking hate people that park in the fire lane, usually right in front of the entrance. Oh, yeah, your saving having to walk your fat a$$ twenty more yards is worth getting in the way of everyone else trying to get in and out of the store. It's almost always a white female SUV or minivan driver.

2002-12-20 01:25:17 PM
Tow truck drivers suck...Maybe not is this specific case...But just suck in general...vultures!

2002-12-20 01:27:04 PM
I'm sorry but if it had been the dad that done this, everyone would be asking for his and his kids taken away from him.

2002-12-20 01:27:28 PM
If this woman's kid is too much trouble to take out of a car seat (I assume it was in a car seat), carry into the store while she buys her magazine, carry back to the van and buckle back into the car seat, then I shudder to think what will happen the first time the kid gets sick or has some other traumatic event.

P.S. Dear bangornews, please learn how to use paragraphs. Thank you.

Finally, some decent fire lane enforcement.

2002-12-20 01:40:12 PM
Please tell me she at the very least got a ticket for parking in a fire lane. Please!

If you need to shop, find a damn parking place and take your kid with you! What magazine could have been that urgent that she needed to place an infant at risk?

What if it had been a car thief instead of a tow truck? They wouldn't have seen the kid either until they were in and taking off.

We had some moron park her car on a corner in downtown Seattle one morning where transients and drug addicts hang out. She left her car unlocked with 2 babies in it and parked in a reserved parking space (mine) so she could walk her stupid boyfriend into work. I waited for her because I had to park my car and she had my spot and there is nowhere free to park down there. I told her if to look around and gauge how safe it was for her to leave her babies alone in that area while it was still not light out. She acted real flip until I told her I would call the cops if I ever saw her kids unattended again. After that, she never took my spot and never left the kids alone (at least in the mornings when I would be around).

Oh sure, biatch at the towing company who YOU hired to haul off this stupid fark's minivan. Bet she had time to take her farking cell phone with her, though. Yep, I'm convinced ANYONE who drives a minivan should be locked up.

2002-12-20 01:57:14 PM
What about the moron in Virginia who baked his baby this summer in a minivan? Got a slap on the wrist. It's bad enough when pets are left in cars.

2002-12-20 01:57:43 PM
That moron should have to get her uterus removed and kids taken away.

2002-12-20 01:58:04 PM
fyi...I live in the town where this happened, and the parking lot adjacent to the bookstore is VERY roomy- always lots of open spaces! Main street itself is tight on parking- but all you have to do is make a right turn into the concourse lot, and there's parking galore.

Obviously another lazy, stupid, self-centered (fill in the rest- I'm too depressed to finish. I have to get out of this town!!!!!! I can't stand it any more!!!!)...

2002-12-20 02:01:22 PM
yet another reason for people, er.. ME to say: God, I hate people.

2002-12-20 02:03:06 PM
I also think the mother is the greatest idiot in this story, but it's nice to know that tow truck drivers are not supposed to tow vehicles with kids or animals in them. I think I'm gonna find me an animatronic dog or kid to leave in my car so I can park anywhere I want. Yeah, I'll still get tickets, but no towing!

2002-12-20 02:03:10 PM
Morris said he understands that people may question the mother's decision. "In my opinion, the mother was wrong for leaving the infant in the car; however, what she did does not rise to the level of criminal behavior," Morris said.
In other news Morris also thinks that Michael Jackson should be put up for Father of the Year."I think we found ourselves the Mother of the Year," Morris said.

2002-12-20 02:10:32 PM
Worst. Mother. Ever. (OK not ever... but certainly a lame excuse for a mom).

I think that this is case for Child Protective Services.
The tow guy should be in the clear.

p.s. It's funny how the mom's name was withheld but the tow guys is in there.

2002-12-20 02:13:04 PM
How is this different than people parking and leaving an adult sitting in the passenger seat?

The kid was supposed to move the car if anyone had a problem. Send the kid to jail, not the mom!

2002-12-20 02:16:26 PM
Forget waiting until summer. It's cold in Maine!

2002-12-20 02:17:26 PM
In only a partial thread-jack, I'd just like to express my ire at the people who park their cars illegally right in front of ATM machines, in broad daylight, when there are legal parking spaces less than 30 feet away.

I think the only driving "skill" lazier than that is not bothering to use your turn signals.

Honestly can't understand parents who can do this kind of thing. Maybe I'm just an overprotective parent. But I won't even go inside to pay for gas with my son alone in the car (he's now 6). The world is a horrible place full of demons who are just waiting for you to not pay attention to your baby long enough...

Makes me mad-spitting-ape-crap insane to know that the women who -birthed- these children could be so callous about thier child's safety.

Dude! I make my son hold my hand when we're in the mall for crying out loud, just so he can't wander far enough away to be pedophile fodder.

And on a completely unrelated note: My vacation starts in 3hrs 30min! Boo YA!

The only time I leave my kids in the car unattended is when they are crying. This is because generally at this point I'm thinking - Hey, if you want 'em, you can have 'em!

2002-12-20 02:37:49 PM
How about we biatch-slap the mom for being stupid. Oh wait, I forgot, this is American, the land where people can't accept personalbe responsibility for their stupid actions.

Casimir:
You said it!

2002-12-20 02:41:17 PM
Casimir, that's nothing. One morning a week or so ago I had to walk into work and my hair froze along the way-- even though I was wearing a hat. It was 4 F outside without factoring in wind chill. By lunchtime, the sun came up and the outside temperature had warmed up to a balmy 11 F high. =)

Stupid people like this make me glad I'm not originally from Maine, I only choose to live here and observe said stupidity. =P

2002-12-20 02:48:37 PM
From my perspective, it appears that Casimir said absolutely nothing.

Wanted: Maine tag ...

2002-12-20 03:21:50 PM
"Morris said he recommended against the action because some people, such as elderly drivers who might not see parking signs, could have their cars towed inappropriately."

people who can't see shouldn't be allowed to drive...? any takers?

wait, wait, that would be discriminatory. never mind.

*sigh*

towing companies don't just tow cars parked illegally, someone has to tell them to. who told them to?

Good one, SlumLord.

I_Can't_Believe_It's_Not_Smegma
I'm surprized the tow company didn't "loose" the baby. They usualy manage to loose everything else.

loose? LOOSE? in the words of LUE, HOW STRANGELY EROTIC

2002-12-20 04:38:32 PM
The only thing worse in this story would have been if the mother decided to sue the towing company after it was all done. People need to be responsible for their actions.

Lord_Dubu: I won't even go inside to pay for gas with my son alone in the car

I'm the same way. I still think about that (3yo?) boy whose mother left him in the car to pay for gas and it was carjacked. I can't remember how it happened exactly, but she got him partially out of his carseat before the man drove away. He was dragged to death. I still think about that. Sometimes being a parent is haunting. It's terrifying to know that someone trusts and believes in you so absolutely. It would kill me to violate that trust. I hope this mother was scared deeply enough to never do it again.

well HellsBelle beat me to the quote from Billyk's link but i too wonder about police chief Morris. who wants a chief that defends illegal parking, child endangerment and/or neglect and allowing the visually impaired elederly to drive?
