12 miles

TOKYO, Sept 11 (Reuters) - An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 struck off the coast of Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido on Thursday, the meteorological agency said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, but the agency issued a tsunami warning for the area after the tremor struck at 0021 GMT (09:21 JST).

The focus of the tremor was 20 km (12 miles) below the surface of the earth, off the coast of Tokachi on Hokkaido, about 800 km north of Tokyo, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

Dude, try splitting your time between Asia and America. That stuff gets tired fast. "I'll call you back at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon." At 3:00 a.m. your phone rings.

Was this insta-greened? Because we don't even know if it is a big deal or not yet.

That's a rather deep one it seems. I think the closer to the surface it is, the more damaging. (I think, maybe it's the other way around)
