Oh baby, I hope someday you learn how to read for understanding. I dont give a rat's ass how you grieve...the thing I hate is when you're not grieving at all, but use "grieving" as an excuse to make jokes about someone burning to death in a collapsing building. It's...well, it's lying. I'm not big on it. If you simply said "I'm a callous fark who likes to go out of his way to offend people", we'd at least all be on the same page.

Do you get it now? Oh good. You're cute.

While I find this discussion very stirring, it is just an odd observation I made once, up here living in Canada-land.

Whenever the US has a mournful 'national event', it seems there HAS to be a Baptist / Southern Gospel choir, along with a well dressed young black guy with a Motown mellow voice for the solo, and a large black female soloist with a voice so powerful it threatens the stained glass in the church.

There are several, whether you believe it or not. Frankly, I suspect that you'd just say I was lying.

I wouldn't assume you were lying. Just show me some Farkers who lost loved ones and are laughing about it today. It should be simple if you already know them. Then again you would have to prove it, which you will fail to do so.

Allow me to elaborate. Only an asshole like yourself would defend other assholes exploiting their suffering and death for their satirical gain. You defend them because you have likely made or continue to take this event in jest. You are so saddened and so traumatized by what happened 7 years ago that now you feel compelled to laugh about it and show everyone how silly the whole ordeal was. Right. I guess I'm done with you.

Rye_: I_Love_Cheesecake: Rye_: Well I use Mac/Linux...: It's amazing how many people still think that 93 wasn't shot down my our military.

What's amazing is how many people do believe that without having a shred of evidence.

How did 93 come down, then?

I have no idea. Maybe it happened they way they say it did, maybe the military shot it down, or maybe something happened that you haven't even thought of yet. I don't know and you don't know.

I do know that conspiracy theories are fun to believe in, but you can't expect a reasonable person to believe something that important simply because they read it on the internet. You're a fool if you do.

You do realise that the official story - that Osama Bin Laden and a rag-tag bunch of radical Muslims living in caves in Afghanistan masterminded the attacks - is a conspiracy theory, right?

To conspire means "to join in a secret agreement to do an unlawful or wrongful act or to use such means to accomplish a lawful end."

"Conspiracy theory": a theory that explains an event or set of circumstances as the result of a secret plot by usually powerful conspirators

toonz: but to be fair, the actual quote is here:
white house press release (new window)

When responding to a question of Bin laden's whereabouts he basically says "who cares?" I think his reasoning surrounding that in the quote is plausible, in terms of the big picture, but it IS a reversal on his stance to "GET" those responsible.

So why do people like you use the fake quote? It's so obviously disproven, and you yourself have the actual transcript, so why bother? It just makes anything you say, at all, immediately suspect at best. Could it be because it's what you WISH he had said, and you're hoping nobody calls you on your lies? Because that's what it looks like from here.

Oh, and 'That is what he effectively said, so I am gonna use quotes even though he didn't say it'? No. Just farking no. Someone's biased misinterpretation of the point isn't a quote, it's a biased paraphrase.

If you're gonna disagree with the guy at least disagree with something he actually said, not a lie that someone wrote trying to twist what he did say.

You clearly have no insight into how witnessing the violent deaths of thousands of one's fellow citizens can have a profound effect on someone's psyche.

You have no idea what it's like to experience a jet plane flying directly over your home and then crashing into part of the skyline three blocks away. You simply cannot imagine the shock, the sounds, the horror. My mind still have difficulty comprehending it.

You have no clue what it is like to live with the smell of burning corpses for months. Or seeing crushed vehicles with blood-spatter that came from the driver being crushed by debris. Or seeing those posters for the missing, every day, and watching the ink and hope slowly fade.

You don't know what it is like to see loved ones just losing their shiat in panic and fear, becoming unrecognizable to you and being unable to give them answer to as to what's going on, or why.

Sadly, I know all of this and more, and I'll never quite get over it. I'll never be right again. I'll always cringe at the sound of a low-flying plane. I'll never get those sounds out of my head. I'll never be able to watch the documentaries without crying.

So go ahead, cope however the hell you want to, but don't tell me that making such a tragedy into entertainment is somehow a good and right thing.

I remember riding my bike home from soccer practice the night before, and waking up early the next morning to find my dad sitting in the living room in his underwear (he was usually busy getting ready for work), his eyes fixed intently on the television. My then-girlfriend's birthday was September 11th, too. Very surreal morning, even all the way across the country in California.

As someone who was on the ground one block away, trust me you wouldn't want to see it.

And since there were 10,000 people around me all watching, (trapped between the WTC and the Hudson river) every time another one fell 10,000 people screamed in unison.

Imagine that every 30 seconds or so for 20 minutes. You can close your eyes but not your ears.

I think, in his defense, that was what he was alluding too. I can understand how people who were not personally touched could be cavalier about it -- just like I wouldn't be offended by a joke about Mrs. O'Leary's cow -- but they should at least respect everyone else's right to be touchy about it.

That was my point - I couldn't even imagine that, I think expieriencing something like that would haunt you for life. Just seeing the images in pictures like that or on TV turns my stomach. I can't blame anyone that actually went through that for being the least bit sensitive to this.

And yet, it doesn't have the quote of "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority." in it, does it. That's what dude started with, I pointed out it's a fake quote. Do you agree now that you have the actual transcript, that it's a fake quote?

If you can see that, can you see how using it as if it WAS a quote, is bad? It's called lying to make a point, which is rarely effective. 'Well that is kind of what he meant to say if I had written his speech for him in a way that he could say it so I could hate him', sure, but it's not a farking quote - and pretending it is, is just another lie by a bush-hater.

Can'tLetYouDoThatStarFox: Why do people place so much emphasis and sentimentality upon recurring dates? Dates are just a function of the mechanics of our solar system and calendar. It's not like the terrorist attack on that day or any other isolated event is actually cyclical and needs to be remembered every year at a specific time or the universe will end. Why is 9/11/2008 a better day for reflection than any other day of the year, such as 9/12/2008? There's no actual relationship. Has it become so attenuated that you need to be reminded by a mnemonic device inherent in the calendar once each year? Why not remember it every day at 9:12AM if it's so blatantly arbitrary? You know, you don't have to obsess over something on a certain day just because it gets television coverage and everybody around you is doing the same thing. You have a choice to be an individual. Some societal ceremonies are good and some of them are just stupid. If you can detach yourself from the emotional aspects of the events, you may realize that this practice is one of them.

Let's never forget, you wrote this on Moon Day the 8th in the ninth month of the year, named September, 2008 years after a Jewish carpenter was nailed to a piece of wood.
