Thank you for for reminding some of us that not all those who post here are self absorbed assholes who would gladly trade dignity and proper compassion for an irreverent, tasteless joke.

/ imagine going to work on a beautiful fall September morning only to have to be forced to jump out of an 80 story window because that was the better choice than simply burning alive.

OldScotch: That day was a wake up call to the West that some elements within Islam, not all of Islam by any means, but a large proportion, had declared war on our culture.

So you're painting the whole Islamic culture with the colour of terrorists?

You should really try and read more carefully.

A Dark Evil Omen: No one in this world has forgotten 9/11. Unless you lived in New York or DC during the attacks, or had friends or family who were killed in the attacks - and if you did, I'm sorry, no one deserves to die like that - you have an equal share in that disaster with everyone else on Earth.

I remember going to the student union building at Penn State and seeing people frantically trying to call their parents who worked in the WTC.

9/11 will never be forgotten so long as Americans are willing to sacrifice their civil liberties for the illusion of physical security.

I was horrified by the attack and grieved, but 9/11 brought the US no real understanding of terrorism or how to combat it. What it did was expose the country's cowardice and ineptitude.

I'm glad I left when I did (1994.) Osama Bin Laden is probably laughing.

TheNext: very hypocritical, just like both sides.....

Can't we all just agree that Saddam should still be torturing his people, plotting to use WMD (and using them too), invading other countries for profit, blatantly disregarding UN mandates, and letting his sons rape women for pleasure?

The UN did nothing about it. The EU didn't have enough backing to do anything about it (the second time).

America did.

I don't necessarily agree with the time at which we chose to unilaterally bring a brutal dictator down. I do believe it was the right thing to do, being the wealthiest nation in the world.

/back to your regularly schedulding bush bashing and talk of oil oil oil (which is also quite important, I might add)

=============================

Whooooooa there lil' doggie. There were NO, I repeat NO WMDs found in Iraq.

Zilch
Nada
None

So, what are you basing this, "Saddam ignored the sanctions" bullshiat. Did you mean, Saddam didn't expose himself or his counties weaknesses in one of the most volatile regions on Earth?

(Pre-emptive STFU: For anyone taking this as a stament of support for Saddam)

Second, if you're all for the death of any leaders who invade another country for profit, then you should probably be Googling Bush's itinerary and looking for a grassy knoll. Who do you think that $2 Billion/week is going to? Corporations with ties to the administration, that's who.

Third, you can't simultaneously say that the UN sactions matter when it gives you a reason to invade Iraq, but the UNs resolutions do not matter if they're against what you want to do. The UN told us repeatedly that the inspections were working and that violence was not the best immediate option. And, from what WE found in Iraq after taking over the country, we know that they in fact WERE working. Where is the accountability from people like you who alleged we were all gullible and who vowed that you'd be vindicated? I'll tell you what happened. You disingenuous clowns moved the goalposts and now it was all about "removing a dictator" and not about the nukes that he was allegedly going to give to Osama Bin Laden.

jaylectricity: Royale With Cheese: Can'tLetYouDoThatStarFox: Why do people place so much emphasis and sentimentality upon recurring dates? Dates are just a function of the mechanics of our solar system and calendar. It's not like the terrorist attack on that day or any other isolated event is actually cyclical and needs to be remembered every year at a specific time or the universe will end. Why is 9/11/2008 a better day for reflection than any other day of the year, such as 9/12/2008? There's no actual relationship. Has it become so attenuated that you need to be reminded by a mnemonic device inherent in the calendar once each year? Why not remember it every day at 9:12AM if it's so blatantly arbitrary? You know, you don't have to obsess over something on a certain day just because it gets television coverage and everybody around you is doing the same thing. You have a choice to be an individual. Some societal ceremonies are good and some of them are just stupid. If you can detach yourself from the emotional aspects of the events, you may realize that this practice is one of them.

I've been to Iraq. Seen it from the air and the ground. I'm going back soon. Anyone who says the Iraq war wasn't about oil has never seen that complete and utter shiathole. If there wasn't oil there, no one would care in the least about Iraq and it would be left to its own devices (see: all of Africa).

wildcardjack: As part of the demolition crew that ensured the towers collapse I celebrate 9/11 with my Illuminati brethren as the highest accomplishment since we took over the leadership of OPEC with the help of the Bilderburgs. We plan on having a 10th anniversary party at Bohemian Grove where we'll pat each other on the back for all our accomplishments over the years.

Uh uh. That 9/11 story isn't Full Retard enough. Here's the story from Sherman Skolnick, a former 70-year-old Chicago nutter in a wheelchair who writes like Greg Palast if he wrote for the National Enquirer. I call the story "Brokeback Bush." Link (new window) I read this just last week and it's still funny to me.

Dubya is ghey (former male cheerleader, right?) and is being blackmailed by the Red Chinese with photographs of him being da ghey with Yalie and Skull & Boner Victor Ashe who was mayor of Knoxville who Dubya later made ambassador of Poland. A Boca Raton ad agency also had revealing photographs and was sent weaponized anthrax via mail killing some guy and shutting the entire company's building and computers down for decontamination for months. The "Arabs" publicized on 9/11 were just US-government paid scapegoats training in Florida (who also were drinking booze and whoring in clubs before 9/11) while the real deal was done by people trying to blackmail the Bushes and US gubment over ghey photographs and Daddy Bush's Iran-contra, October surprise, and business dealings with the Bin Ladens. The Bushes let Osama Bin Laden escape at Tora Bora because if he was caught he would testify about their business dealings together during the last 40 years; OBL escaped Afghanistan/Pakistan and is now hiding in a muslim-dominated province in China. The evidence from the WTC was all trucked and shipped to Chinese underworld thugs.[Skolnick leaves out the massive amounts of gold in the WTC basement ala Die Hard 3 which was what the blackmailers wanted in the first place.]Iraq was invaded because Saddam has secret accounts giving the Bushes billion-dollar kickbacks since Hussein was installed by the CIA. Also, and Skull & Boner John F. Kerry is bisexual and also had da buttsex with Dubya.

Won't happen. People on hijacked airliners these days will no longer assume that they're going to make it out alive. Even if they hadn't implemented any of the generally foolhardy security measures after 9/11, we'd never see an attack like that again. Passengers would fight back.

for two weeks after 9/11 the country seemed nicer. people were more polite, and seemed genuinely concerned about eachother.

then the gubmint had to go and fark it up.
saw the first sign of where they were going to take this when a commercial came on linking marijuana use to terrorism.

Bin Laden unwittingly brought this country together briefly. the boogie-man-mongering tards in washington immediately went back to dividing us with red herring scare tactics to push their military-industrial agenda by linking the War on Drugs™ to the War on Terror™

it all strikes me as odd because I think you have to be on drugs to believe this bullshiat from a government that THRIVES on making sure we're scared.

These are our "protectors"?

Oh, party of Eisenhower where art thou?
