I'll never forget 9/11/08, it's the day they'll take this damn fracture-stabilizing pin out of my hand, which means I also finally get the cast taken off. BRING ON THE CELEBRATION!

DROxINxTHExWIND: Admittedly, I had to go and readjust my tinfoil hat this weekend when I saw the 9/11 specials airing. I was thinking, "how convenient that these are replaying right after the Republican Convention. I guess they want us to remember that brown people are the enemy".

Then, I caught a glimpse of a calendar and I slinked into my corner.

Good for you. A Conscience! wow. Whodathunkit?

I told my girlfriend that this halloween she should dress as a building and I should dress as a plane. We'd walk down the street and I'd keep running into her. We laughed maniacally and then she told me I was evil. Guess it's kooky-spooks again this year.

/sigh

Salon.com years ago did a 'things you're not supposed to say or think about 9/11' that readers were send in. I wish I could find it. Lots of black humour.

Look, I know it's a complicated issue and all, but can we all at least agree on this: the guy who wrote that article needs to have his ass kicked so high he'll have to take off his shirt to shiat.

After 9/11, I abruptly abandoned a novel (a lighthearted comedy!) I was working on. Any meaningful fiction, I decided, would have to address the attacks; at any rate, a lighthearted comedy would not go anywhere in such a climate.

A few months later, out of nowhere, I devised a plot involving trapped survivors, working myself into a mild frenzy over the idea before realizing, in silent embarrassment, that it pretty much recapitulated the major points of Graham Greene's "End of the Affair," set during the London blitz.

There are not words describing how much this blogger sucks.

TheNext: Can't we all just agree that Saddam should still be torturing his people, plotting to use WMD (and using them too), invading other countries for profit, blatantly disregarding UN mandates, and letting his sons rape women for pleasure?

The UN did nothing about it. The EU didn't have enough backing to do anything about it (the second time).

America did.

I don't necessarily agree with the time at which we chose to unilaterally bring a brutal dictator down. I do believe it was the right thing to do, being the wealthiest nation in the world.

priestrape: I remember how impressed I was with Bush in the immediate wake of 9/11...I thought, "Maybe I underestimated him" after seeing him on that pile of rubble talking to the workers at Ground Zero. It was one of the hardest moments a leader of the United States has ever needed to face, and he appeared to emerge as a true leader in those days.

The lesson? Always trust your first instincts

I remember saying to my husband when Bush said "we will get the people..." that how sick i thought it was he was using this as a PR move, and he is going to go after everyone brown. My husband had fallen into that "maybe we were wrong about ol bushie", but I never did.

I had a business trip in Europe starting on 9/15. It amazes me how much good will towards Americans there was then and how much our government has pissed it away.

As part of the demolition crew that ensured the towers collapse I celebrate 9/11 with my Illuminati brethren as the highest accomplishment since we took over the leadership of OPEC with the help of the Bilderburgs. We plan on having a 10th anniversary party at Bohemian Grove where we'll pat each other on the back for all our accomplishments over the years.

=======================================

I was a little more cynical. I was in the mindset that the chickens were coming home to roost. But, even thinking that I was PISSED and I felt that we had been violated.

I'm as liberal as they claim Obama is but, during the rubble speech Bush had me ready to go kill some brown people. I was faaaaaar from thinking the Bush administration was involved in this.

it's amazing when you think back to the near unilateral support he had in those following weeks, and what has happened to it since.

I wonder if there has ever been a study of the largest swing in approval rating

I purposely forget, so I don't have to realize how stupid Americans are at Geography and their simplified view that all brown people are the same.

No, just slightly after we nuked England, and enslaved the French.

Its Rudy Giuliani day already? Time flies when there is an election. Maybe McSame can give a speech from spot of where the WTC buildings stood...

or at least have a back drop with a picture of a pound zero symbols behind him, when to stay in touch with the youth, he is explaining to the middle school students why they will be going to Iran to stop these gods of terror that can't be stopped from caves and houses without running water unless we let the president burn the constitution just to have us thank him for saving it when he finally decides to piss it out.

For me, it was the fact that I expected him to fall flat on his face...and, at least in the way he spoke and the way he appeared to rise to the occasion, he didn't.

And I'm sure I got wrapped up in the national let's-stick-together-ism of the moment, too.

Of course, I like to play the tape of the towers collapsing on 9/11 backward. Then it looks like someone is building them really really fast...

Four planes. New York City wasn't the only location or group of people affected. What is with these smug, post-post-irony New York writers, masturbating to the idea that their experiences were the only ones that existed and therefore mattered?
