It's a beautiful cake, worthy of the blue ribbon.
The proud creator of it is going to take lots of pictures of it and get her own picture in the paper.
Then she'll take it home and display it on the dining room table. No one will want to eat it because it's too beautiful to cut up; and the Muppet characters are made out of fondant, which means they don't taste very good.
So, a month from now, the cake will be a begin to smell, and someone in the house will yell, "Does anyone want this cake?"
And Heather Haynes, the proud creator, will call back, "No, just throw it in the trash."
And the ants will have a delicious snack.

True story. Pull out the DVDs - every time you see a Muppet playing a guitar, bass, banjo, etc. they are left-handed. Link (new window)

If you noticed, the cake was behind plexiglass. Using a flash would have given you nothing but big white sunbursts.

And to think, my wedding "cake" was cupcakes in five different flavours (cut a coconut cream one), I could've gone with a Muppet cake instead! Though I would've felt really guilty cutting into this.

This puts the cake decorators on all those Food Network shows to shame.

Who was able to name all of the characters on the cake without cheating?

I'm a fan, but couldn't remember four of them.

My wife was. I always get stumped by the names of the band members. Dr. Teeth, Animal,... awww crap!

Awesome. I could never bring myself to cut into a cake that gorgeous, though.

The Muppet Show was really sophisticated children's television. I pity the current generation of kids who had to grow up without it.

I could. But then, I've been going through all the episodes and watching them recently. The show is more brilliant than I remembered.

Right here. I used to watch the show as a kid back in the 70s when it was on prime time. I've been enjoying a Muppet Show renaissance lately, rediscovering all my favorite B-list muppets like Louis Kazagger from "Muppet Sports" and the newscaster from "Muppet News" whose name eludes me.

Does anyone know whether game show host Guy Smiley was a muppet or just a Sesame Street character? He fits pretty well with the Muppet Show ethos, but I don't remember him actually appearing on the show.

Muppets are so underrated. I love the Muppet Show episode with Mark Hamill. There is also a great Muppet 4D show at Disney's California Adventure, missing some of the characters, but it's nice to see them. And when I was a kid I thought Janice was a cross-dresser.

He's just a Sesame Street character.

[Raises Hand]

But then I'm the father of a four year old son who is being introduced to the classics -- Speed Racer (no BS Mach 6 or other Wachowski crap), The Muppet Show, Batman (The Animated Series), and Star Trek (ST:TOS, of course).

/no Spongebob or Oddparents allowed in this house

That looks really good, although I'd never eat any of them because I can't stand fondant. The cake looked like buttercream, though, so... uh... I'll take a corner slice.

He loves her. He's just embarrassed to be seen in public with a pig. She's a scooter- fun to ride till your friends see catch you on it.

It pretty much tastes like it, too.

Fancy cakes like that always make me sort of sad, because after the standard thoughts of "wow! impressive!" it occurs to me that all the really interesting parts are just fondant, not cake, that it would be hard to cut pieces of actual cake out from under the decorative parts, that cutting the cake would (obviously) ruin its design, and worst of all, that's all a moot point since it probably took a week to make a cake that awesome so it's all gone stale and yucky anyway.

It's true. They're all left-handed. IIRC, it's because the operators use their right hand to control the mouth.
