I miss the 90's more. The 90's were cool.

50mm: Glasgowsfinest: HowlingFrog: The 80's were definitely cool in Europe;

No. Nonononono. No.

They were a nightmare of bizarre denim, shoulder pads and slip-on shoes.

We had all that plus eight years of Reagan.

/80's were a farking nightmare

What? Reagan was the best President ever! The 80's were farking AWESOME! Man, I wish it was the 80's right now....I'd go put on my jellies, acid-wash jeans, tease up my hair, slap on the baby blue eyeshadow and hot pink lipstick and just have a totally awesome (to the MAX!) time. I miss the 80's, things just haven't been as fun or as exciting since.

and thamike you are absolutely right. Jennifer Connolly was gorgeous in the 80's and in that movie. I don't know what happened to her, but she's ugly now. Sad.

The 80's? HA! You kids should have been around in the 60's. Now THAT was a decade!

Sounds like a depressing f*cking decade to me.

I was living in the 70's in the 80's. Long hair, concert shirts, jeans, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Rush albums and a '69 Cougar.

I was a teen in the 80's. It was a glorious time to be a girl. I mean, come on! We had Duran Duran and INXS to look at. My poor daughter has NOTHING!!! It's almost like the bands don't care what they look like anymore...it's not like they'll be showing a video on Mtv...

HowlingFrog: The 80's were definitely cool in Europe; dunno what they were like here.

They were cool in Japan too... or maybe big in Japan, I guess? :)

But it seemed it'd be forever America was Reagan and Japan had Nakasone. All the girls had feathered hair, school uniforms skirts were mid-calf length unless you were a tough girl then it was ankles length. Cool guys would get their standard black with buttons uniform made extra baggy big.

And Michael Jackson was still cool. He had "Thriller" on TV, with subtitles, and a "how they did the makeup" special following (also with subtitles), which due to some random luck, no one in my family managed to tape over so I still have the VHS.

/ah, the bubble

I just checked in to make sure TMLO had this covered, he did, I'm done.

well ... if you can't pick the 90's, you'd better not pick the 70's or 60's. The 50's were just dorky ... and anything before that can't be "cool" since the word hadn't been used in that manner yet.

I still wouldn't call the 80s "cool" by any stretch.

The big hair, the androgyny, the shoulder pads, the pastel colors, the no socks with the 5 o'clock shadow look, Phil Collins everyfreakingwhere, material girls wearing mismatched materials, Jelly Bellies, monochrome VDT's, floppy disks the size of Frisbees that held less info than is written on a Frisbee, everybody Wang Chunging tonight, actual music videos on MTV ...

Good thing I was intoxicated for much of the 80's.

I imagine growing up in the 80's was the best part of 'em. Otherwise, fashion/hair was hideous, music seemed to sound the same, movies pretty much sucked, the conservatives were in power, etc, etc.

I'd have to go with either the 60's or 90's here. I want to say 70's, but the second half seemed to be a proto-80's. Plus, we had Ford and Carter.

That's still very popular here in Europe.

To reiterate what Earguy said, Feathered hair was big in the 70's. We made fun of feathered hair in the 80's along with bell bottom jeans and frosted blue eyeshadow.

Most of the 80s is a blur for me anyway. I do remember the big hair and puffed out clothes. It was a blast, hopefully never to be duplicated.

I prefer to think of it as plummeting headlong into middle age with a horrified shriek.

Or I just try and remember that my age is the answer to "Life, the Universe and Everything". And Fox Mulder's apartment number.

How can I forget? They're immortalized in the family photo albums. Still, far less embarassing than any photo album from the 70's.

80's - cool
90's - cool
2000+ - boring

Other than new tech, there's been nothing interesting for the past 8 years.
same ol', same ol'

OK, you finally got the superhero and fantasy genres down,
and that's fun.

Its all now about communications on the web...blogs, news, etc.
And unending internet porn helps...

But music, fashion, etc?
