Damn, looks like I had that timed just right.

/awesome clubs, Sisters of Mercy's "This Corrosion" cranked to the gills, swirling clouds of hash smoke. Yes, I would love to go back there.

I was class of '85.

Never feathered my hair. Never owned acid-wash jeans. Never a mullet or "big hair." I don't recall that being the prevailing fashion, other than in music videos or among the same cheesy-type trendy people who now mouse their hair up in a stupid kind of mohawk.

Wanna be!

Feathered hair was 1970's. 80s was spiked or mullet. And you totally forgot parachute pants.

EVERYONE was a dork. It was the 80's!

everyone was walking around looking like Nik Kershaw, or lemmy out of motorhead. Things didn't improve until 1990.

Huh, maybe I was too stoned to remember. Cos I remember wearing black Italian cigarette-cut jeans, Doc Martins and scruffy tees.
Also had a really cool old shirt from the 20's that I'd picked up at a thrift shop in Munich. Like, knee length.

I'm no fan of hers, and I'll grant you she has a resemblance to the crypt keeper, but Reagan was an idiot (married to a super idiot), and he spent the last few years in an Alzheimer's stupor, all the while people praised him.

/they still do

I guess it depends on your age, I was 13 in '85, so I was pretty much running with the kids, but I remember seeing some FAR OUT haircuts in the older kids. Think Kajagoogoo.

Yeah, I imagine you're right. I was 25 in '85, and the Kajagoogoo look was NOT in. Neither was Kajagoogoo, come to think of it. That was teeniebopper crap. In my age group it was more like Industrial and anarchy.
You heard more Rammstein than Culture Club, let's put it that way. :)

to me...the 80's were the last days of 'the rock' that was still fresh and somewhat original.

they were great days if you were jammin in a "rock" band.

or if you just looked like you were in a band.

-then came the sell-out from aerosmith to run dmc...then everthing went to hell.

the end.

Earguy: 80s was spiked or mullet. And you totally forgot parachute pants.

Guilty as charged.

Had a flat-top for most of the 80s (1983 until 1993 or so). Around 1985, when I was 15, I thought it would be cool to dye a blonde stripe down the middle of my head (I have dark hair). I was roundly ridiculed, and called a skunk (among other things) from then on. My mom raised high hell and sent me back to the barber to get it dyed back out. They tried, but the dark dye washed out pretty quickly and the peroxide remained.

Not sure if I had parachute pants or not, but I did have linen pants, linen sport coat and pastel T-shirt (the Miami Vice look), along with clam diggers and a Panama Jack hat with flaps. For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why I was having so much difficulty getting laid. With hindsight...

Well I was referring to the 1890s at first. I'm sure one would keep this in a cellar:

The 80's had some moments.

Unfortunately it also had bad hair, bad bands, and bad hair bands (not that there were any good ones).

Then again, the 80's also gave us the original Transformers, GI Joe, Moving Pictures, Among the Living, and Back in Black.

hmmm.

The mullet was cool.

Sure it's easy to make fun now but back in the day chicks dug that Mister Mister look.

The 80's would have been even cooler with better hand held electronics and faster internet. The 90's were more full of hope for the future.

/Well now we have faster internet and better hand held electronics.

Mainstream 80s culture was so fkn horrible that it spawned some pretty sweet alternative scenes.

So yeah, by mostly sucking ass, a small part of it was cool.
