libbynomore2: THE MAIN PART! The claim that the Fedearl Government has jurisdiction is totally and completely FALSE.

?????

You didn't quote anything to do with Federal juristication. You quoted some stuff about the port. Christ figure out what you want to be pissed off about before you randomly start quoting people....

Jeeze.

And the port is shared responsibility between state local and federal governments. The Feds can come into the port and shut it down if they like, they just better have a damn good reason. The feds work with major structures and infrastructure at the port, like surveys that coordinate with up stream folks, planning and such. The state works with big business that wish to use the rails and stuff and the state/locals deal with individuals entities that wish to set up shop. The port is a shared responsibility of three levels of government.

What were you pissed off about again there spanky?

MedTek: lexslamman: why is the forecast discussion at the NHC being so conservative?

When there is still a great amount of uncertainty, the NHC usually doesn't change its prior predictions and the discussion becomes a wash-rinse-repeat.

There seems to be consistency and consensus on the track at this point - intensity is the big question. It may be that Gustav never really gets his act back together and strikes as a minimal major hurricane, which is still an epic disaster for the area he's heading to.

We'll know more when the HH aircraft gets back in - they are on their way right now.

How ironic your last comment was. I said NOTHING about " the port. " My commnets were in response to some idiot who thinks that because the Feds have " more money " they should be responsible for situations like Gustav. I merely pointed out the FACT that the Feds don't have jurisdiction and can only come in WHEN ASKED. That was the disaster of Katrina, Gov Blanco refused to give Fed's permission to help for a week after the hurricane.

Go back and read the entire exchange, pay attention to who said what, stop attributing quotes to me that are not mine and then come back and try again.

The fact that you were completely unable to comprehend the context of the discussion doesn't mean I wasn't clear. I was.

Not really. In Katrina it took a rather alarming advisory from Max Mayfield to get the media to take notice - during that time Ray Nagin and Katherine Blanco were frantically trying to evacuate their citizens while President Bush was content to strum a guitar and cut John McCain's 115th birthday cake.

I going to take a run over the Target to get a three pack of tighty whiteys. I normally wear boxers so the boys can swing, but on my bike that is like putting my unit in a taffy puller. One snag of my bag between my leg and the seat and I am doubled over. And my old biking underwear looks like Tina Turner's underwear in "Beyond Thunderdome", i.e. shredded with a subtle beige color.

But I'll take look to see if you got it all sorted out when I get back. So have fun and don't hurt yourself while I'm away.

This is FALSE and I refuse to let liars like you to peddle that bullshiat.

Bush told them to evacuate, but didn't have jurisdiction to force them to. Nagin was " frantic " to save his own pitiful ass and get out of town while leaving his citizens and the buses that could have moved them out to drown. Blanco refused for a whole WEEK to accept Bush's federal disaster declaration because she didn't want to relinquish control to the Feds. She chose politics, power and control over HER citizens.

PERIOD.

Shame on you for being so cluless or dishonest.

Tropical storm conditions should reach areas within the landfall cone within the next 4-5 hours. If you are near the coast in that area and you aren't on the road within the next 4 hours, you will have serious problems getting out in time. Don't assume that the GOP state and federal governments are going to do a damn thing for you and get out now.

Ah, no. No thanks.

See you need to learn to be consistent and concise.

That means that every post stands on its own.

Feel free to use my posts and other peoples posts as an example.

Everything is self contained. Someone can read my post and see what point I am responding to. This is a long time tradition of BBSs and the internet.

No one cares what you have to say enough to waste time hunting down everything you said because you are in capable of being consistent and concise.

Learn the protocol and use it. Or just shut up when you are told that you make no sense.

You are starting to act like a typical right wing self important whiner. No boo-hoo for you.

Worst case scenario for NOLA, right? I am sure this is good news for someone in another town. Why the hell are the residents of NOLA more important than anyone else who lives on the coast?

jst3p: Worst case scenario for NOLA, right? I am sure this is good news for someone in another town. Why the hell are the residents of NOLA more important than anyone else who lives on the coast?

It isn't that they are more important; it's just that everyone else is gone.. they had the common sense to leave. There isn't much news to be had in the people who thought ahead and left, but to watch those who stayed behind is going to make for some great face-palm moments when they try to explain to the rescuers why they stayed.

hillbillypharmacist: Just so everyone knows:

Breakdown of those who stayed in Katrina revealed that the only good predictor was age. Not race, or even income. The elderly were unlikely to leave.

This is not always because of poor health, some of the elderly are so set in their ways that they just can't deal with any change at all. My grandfather in law started taking medication that caused him to occasionally lose his ballance, so we told him that he could sleep in the upstairs bedroom in his house anymore. He said that he wouldn't be able to sleep because his wife (who is hard of hearing) played the TV too loud and it would keep him up all night if he slept in the other bedroom. I offered to buy my grandmother in law a set of headphones so she could watch her TV and her husband could sleep. She damn near threw me out of the house for even suggesting that. They freak out if I don't take the exact same route when I take them to their doctor visits.

They are not senile, they are just really set in their ways. I believe that they wouldn't leave their house if it was under a mandatory evacuation either (good thing there are no hurricanes here). They'd come up with a whole range of excuses to staying in their house (looters, fires etc).

That being said, if someone is lucid and refuses to leave because they are stubborn then the authorities should tell them that they will most likely die and they will receive no help during and in the immediate aftermath of the disaster as all their efforts will be going to those who are unable to evacuate.

2008-08-31 01:38:23 PM
When my wife and I left, we left in two cars with an empty seat. We had friends packed in and friends' dogs. We didn't leave a soul that wanted to leave.

That article is selectively interviewing idiots. Further, the notion that most people don't have cars is completely false. New Orleans is not a city made for mass transit. We have trolleys people, trolleys. That's not gonna move the masses to and from work. Everyone has a car.

Even if you don't have a car, and many students don't, we passed hundreds of charter buses on their way into New Orleans and the organized evacuation started by plane, train and bus on Friday. Idiots still there now are there because they want to be - and that's their damn problem.

This is exactly why "anti gouging" rules make ZERO SENSE. You are hoarding gasoline you don't need and afforded to do so only because the price is kept artificially low. Now there is a shortage of gasoline (16 gallons times the number of people like you) for those that really need it.

Oh, boo-farking-hoo. I paid this price for that gas because I don't feel like paying almost half a buck more by the end of the week for the same gas. It is called "pre-planning". My only disagreement with you is that a fire is too easy. Indeed- I am so glad it pleases Mr. Moore that my house and livelihood may be destroyed in a couple of hours. Why, hopefully God will prove his existence to me by striking Mr. Moore's daughter and wife with a horribly painful and fatal cancer, and his fat ass will destroy his knees, and he can bury them from his farking wheelchair. Yes, that would prove up God's existence very well for me. And the same goes for such assholes as Pat Robertson.

They aren't - but it is the largest population center on the gulf coast, among the 3 most important ports, and quite a bit of it is below sea level, so information about the potential impact there takes greater precedence. If you are anywhere within 100 miles west of New Orleans or 200 miles east of New Orleans near the coast, evacuating should be part of your plans as well.
