Is this the official thread?

David Patterson just wrapped up. It was interesting watching him speak. Pretty much horrible speaker, but not for lack of trying I don't think. He did present some different aspects - regarding Americans with disabilities

if you have cable tv cspan is running it uninterrupted pretty much.
if you have hd PBS is running it with some commentary.

most of us watch it on msnbc though. Rachel is on with Gregory and the Road crew.

I had to switch to another feed - am I still seeing live stuff? Right now a bald guy with a red tie from the CBC just announced a moment of silence for Tub Jones

Yeah they are probably getting slammed, I switched to the feed on dnc.org Though I'm not sure it's up to the moment live - it was a bit behind at some points yesterday

I'm sure they will just like Olbermann's. It will just be a few hours later.

Pretty sure they will. Dan Abrams is already off the list.

I know he isn't speaking tonight, but here is my drinking game for Obama's acceptance speech:

1. Drink every time he says "hope"
2. Drink every time he says "change"
3. Take a shot every time he uses "hope" and "change" in the same sentence.

Good luck making it through the speech.

I predict Bill Clinton will swoop down from the rafters armed with an AK47 and hold everyone hostage until they nominate his wife.

McCain's will be easy. drink every time they say POW

So there's Obama in an ESPN interview with Stuart Scott, and Obama's asked if Bush should have attended the Olympics. Obama said Bush should have made comments to the effect that "I won't be attending unless we see improvement on the issue of Tibet".

That's some fine foreign policy idiocy right there. Is he nuts? Insulting or issuing an ultimatum to China on the eve of their shining Olympic moment would have been incredibly short-sighted when dealing with a country whose culture (and patience) dates back thousands of years. China is not to be bullied or condescended to, period. They appear to be more receptive to the U.S. over the last several decades, they are a burgeoning superpower, and all you needed to see was their 2008 drummers to recognize they are a proud and powerful force (it could just as easily been 400,000,000 drummers in sync.) Far better to have diplomatic ties to China than to insult them. An Olympic snub would have incensed them for decades to come. Like I said, is Obama nuts?

/Would Hillary have gone to China?

You can of course drink every time McCain says "my friends" during his speech next week. You'll be dead before the end.

Of course, if you drink only when he means "my friends", then you don't even need to buy any booze.

he wasn't issuing an ultimatum to them he would be making a political statement by not attending. Bush might not have felt he had the moral authority to lecture anyone on human rights.

I think you'll get more drunk with McCain because of so many more choices: "my friends", "hope", "change", "enemy", "POW", "9/11", "surge" and "terrorists"

Is this the same Obama that praised China for their SUPERIOR infrastructure, post a small Earthquake killing 70,000 people and the water diversion for the Olympics from rural areas creating a chinese dust bowl?

BWAHHHAHAHHAAHAHHA.

burntdan does any of that have anything to do with anything?

Merely foreign policy. Not that foreign policy matters, but if Obama is espousing how we should engage with countries like Iran and other troubling nations at the highest levels, then snubbing China at their most penultimate recent moment makes little sense.

Swan song nuttin'.

There's a very real possibility that Barry O loses in November, and John McCain becomes a pitiful one-term president, leaving Hillz in the catbird seat as the 2012 candidate to beat.

2008-08-26 06:55:42 PM
I'm sure the people close to the stage are going:

"Man, that podium is really saying some great stuff... I wonder when Kucinich is up"

Obama is a Alinskyite. A community organizer. A corrupt politician from Chicago.

How did he get to Pakistan in 1981 on a US Passport?

When I got a secret clearance I had to answer 30 pages of questions and provide three forms of identification, including a birth certificate. I would think the guy applying for President of the US would have to do more to prove himself legit for the job.

I am not saying Obama isn't an American, he obviously is, but is he a citizen of any other countries? Or carry passports for Kenya and/or Indonesia?

2008-08-26 06:56:35 PM
Should be a fun night. It's Warner and Hillary, right?

1) Obama was talking merely about the opening ceremonies, not the entire Olypics. Misrepresenting what people say is a hell of a way to make a point.

2) Penultimate. . .I do not think it means what you think it means.

well, foreign policy sort of. the olympics are not exactly a critical foreign policy event. you're not likely to start a war because of attending or not attending.

however, my point was what does that have to do with the democratic national convention? is this a "what does obama think about the olympics" thread? no. is anyone in here to listen to you non-sequitur about it? no.

hence, does that have anything to do with anything in this thread? i could sit here talking about how i don't like mccain's tax plan, but that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense would it?

If Obama is perceived to have lost due to bitter Hill-ites, she won't have a prayer in hell in '12

This is why she will be standing in the unemployment line with Tucker Carlson very soon. She makes Keith Olbermann look moderate.

shiat even Keith Olbermann knows better to not fark with David Gregory. I cant wait till she takes a dump on Tom Brokaw.
