I find nothing wrong with that.
Except the fact that I wasn't invited.

Money talks, bullshiat walks.

This surprises anyone?

You mean lobbyists spend their own money on expensive food? AT POLITICAL CONVENTIONS!?!

Why hasn't Obama PERSONALLY THROWN THEM ALL OUT!?

Democratic convention always has better parties than the Republican convention.

I don't know what bothers me more - the fact that the graft and corruption of our political system has become so blatant, or that we've become so cynically accepting of it all.

Weaver95: I don't know what bothers me more - the fact that the graft and corruption of our political system has become so blatant, or that we've become so cynically accepting of it all.

Hey Weav, what, precisely, did you find wrong with the lobbyists attending the convention? There didn't appear to be anything fishy going on, or any conflicts of interest, or even any Tom Delay-style money laundering.

There are lots of things that lobbyists do that AREN'T evil, like advocate for causes and organizations such as the Red Cross, the United Way, or Habitat For Humanity.

Why do you hate America, and why do you hate free speech?

Just askin'.

yep...and they'll be at the Republican convention too.

Sad. But I bet you won't see Obama at any of those lavish parties.

So, I guess you think the Republicans will be eating BigMacs and Whoppers?

\The only whoppers will be the ones their telling.

2008-08-25 08:15:38 PM
Oh noes.

They've been given access to the Democrat hive brain.

They're just going to throw money at it until it gets so powerful that it can control Barrack through telekinesis.

The coin return button on the brain is broken. Woe, woe for the world.

I suspect this may actually slow lobbying down... Now the lobbyists have to split their efforts between Washington and Denver, later Washington and Minniapolis.

They'll no longer be able to shmooze with one side of the aisle in the morning and the other in the evening the way they do when congress is in session.

What's the big deal? This is the endgame. Reagan-like policy - in full fruition. This is what you've wanted, what you voted for, for all those years... why so sad?

Sorry, you seem to have misspelled a word there. Keep putting these jackasses in Washington, and ye've got no room to complain when they continue the same old shenanigans.

With some toe-tapping in the mens room, sure.

2008-08-25 08:28:56 PM
Right, and I'm sure the RNC will be hosted from the livingroom of a one bedroom apartment and they'll be serving hot dogs and pork rinds ...

Come to think of it, since many of these things you can "lobbyists" are actually "sponsors", i wouldn't be surprised to find the republican convention pretty drab and dreary, i mean, they're going to be advertising in the convention people CARE about. You know. The democrats.

One F Jef: the convention people CARE about.

lulz...nobody cares about the conventions aside from the candidate's speeches.

Lobbyists aren't just Big Pharma, Big Telco, Big Utility, Big blah blah blah. Lobbyists are EVERY GROUP trying to influence political groups. MoveOn, AFL-CIO, Focus on the Family, the NRA, Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, et. al.

And guess what, to lure politicians and get them to attend their functions and hear their speil, Johnny Walker Red Label and a sammich ain't gonna cut it. Spending $5,000 a plate on a meal with a politician is more effective than $5,000,000 worth of advertising to a listless constituency.

2008-08-25 08:35:09 PM
I just hope there's no trans fat fried foods there. Because that would be, you know, the worst possible thing they could serve.

2008-08-25 08:35:22 PM
The GOP convention in NYC was amazing too. I am no lobbyist, but it was fancy feasting...no not cat food.

that!

Of course, Planned Parenthood and the ACLU aren't dishing out big bucks to the pools, but what do I care? I am a stockholder in Big [insert your favorite evil business here], so those lobbyists are working for ME!

/Wish just one would save me a doggie bag.

Yeah, but the chicks at the Democratic convention are usually better looking. They need to start holding Republican conventions in the south. The chicks in New York last time were horrible.

For the amount the class of hookers who cater to these conventions charge, they can afford to fly in from Dubai.

WIN

Having been to a ton of Democrat and Republic gatherings over the years, the Dems definitely throw better parties...and have exceptionally hotter women. Republicans have better liquor, though, so there you go.

Especially since Ted doesn't snarf up all the booze any more. Chris Dodd can only drink so much by himself and then he has to console himself with open-face waitress sandwiches, not like the good old days at La Brasserie.

Once again the Democrats prove they are hyprocites and no better than the Republicans. This will cause alot of people who would be willing to consider the Democrats to turn away from them in disgust. Espcially when their nominee is an elitist whose wife hates America.

Typical response of a liberal when someone says something you disagree with. I know, I used to be one myself. I'd be delighted to vote for a democrat if they would just choose one worth voting for. I might have been able to hold my nose and vote Hilary, but the Democrats had to go and nominate Obama.
