TLDR

Yes, I remember the old days, where if you spoke your mind you were called a maverick, or a "straight talker".

My home answering machine is limited to 2 minutes. Fine for "hi coming home now, be there in 10" messages. Not very good for "plumber called, five questions he had are..." messages.

Maybe writer should get iPhone. Has visual voicemail. And no time restriction. Very nice.

That's just crazy talk now. Honesty has no place in today's politics. It's tantamount to political suicide.

God forbid people try to explain their point of view in no uncertain terms. I often get chided for not answering "simple yes ro no questions" when it's obvious there's no such thing. And yes, this comment was originally only going to be 1 sentence long.

Biden is the biggest gas bag in the Senate and that's saying something. He is also responsible single-handedly for putting Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court though his total mismanagement of his hearing. Biden allowed Thomas to control the hearings to the point that he was able to turn the tables on the committee with his "Highg tech lynching" comments. NEVER would have happened had there been someone with a brain leading the proceedings.

Actually, I like the recorded calls. I can hang up immediately without offending someone on the other end of the line. Yes, I do worry about that, even with people I disagree with.

He left more than a two minute answering machine message once, therefore he is unsuited for VP? That's really a GOP selling point?

He tried the same crap with Roberts, who was a much more qualified candidate. I liked Biden until I saw those confirmation hearings. I'm a lobbyist and I've never even met someone so in love with hearing themselves talk.

When someone asks me a pointless question, I give them a pointless answer.

My co-worker: Do you have an opinion on project x?
Me: Yes.
*pause*
Co-worker: Well, what is it?
Me: Oh, you wanted to know what my opinion is. *gives my opinion*.

Yeah, I'm a jerk.

I'm pretty curious, as I am in watching a slowly moving public relations train crash, in how this union has rationalized Biden's claim in the primaries that Obama is not ready to be President... which of course Obama mistakenly echoed when announcing Biden as the next President....whatever

I had one of the old school answering machines that used to cassette tapes so there was always enough time for people to leave a message. However, I replaced the tape for the outgoing message with a regular 90 minute cassette with the leader removed.

"Sorry I'm not home to take your call, please leave your message after the 1812 Overture by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky."

I didn't get many messages after that.

Is it just me, or would the headline have been much better without the "fark:"?

See? Then it reads like, you know... something funny. Instead of a stupid bastardization of a cliche.

2008-08-25 01:43:59 PM
Biden's selection represents an implied admission by Obama that he lacks what Biden has: foreign policy credentials. In that sense, the Delaware senator does not make the ticket whole. Instead, he calls attention to what it lacks.

Or, it says that Obama thinks Biden would make a good VP.

A vice president's only meaningful constitutional obligation is to succeed the president in the event of death or incapacitation.

Dick Cheney's energy plan would like a word with you.

As the saying goes, pics or it didn't happen.

Biden was a safe choice.

I cannot wait for McCain's announcement. I would almost, almost consider voting for him if he chose Sarah Palin; except he's lost his mind and I couldn't bank on him actually dying of old age in office.

I really think the stress is going to make McCain keel over if he is elected president.

Jill Biden's dancing partner was very good-looking and very famous. He was John McCain.

I don't think those words mean what Richard Cohan thinks they mean.
