slobarnuts,

> Thank God Reagan had presidential experience before become president.

You do realize that Reagan was governor of a "considerably-sized" state called California...perhaps you've heard of it.

I'm terribly disappointed that neither party's candidate has any executive experience, whatsoever. Senators are a scary bunch.

If anything, this might actually swing towards Obama's favor, simply because he hasn't even been a U.S. senator for a single term.

Meh, I think I'll batten down the hatches for four years and hope for better in 2012.

Your concern is well noted.

Thank God Reagan had presidential experience before become president.

Reagan was active in politics for 30 years before he became President.

And look what an awful shiat he was. . .

Donald_McRonald: It's one final FU to Hillary.

bwa ha ha ha ha.... nice connection. I suspect it had far more to do with the fact that his campaign realized the surprise was now spoiled, so they better just make it official after they promised to tell his supporters first. But no doubt a few PUMAs will make the same connection and think it was a deliberate FU to Hillary.

muck4doo: Don't be lazy, and look at his website. He explains all of his issues there.

His policies aren't even close to socialism. Equating the Democratic platform with socialism just makes you look terribly ignorant.

Cyberluddite: Oh God, I hope it's true. Is he trying to lose?

Deep pockets and a glass jaw. For whatever reason, the GOP thought they got themselves an attack dog, when Romney made that "internet date" quipharkabee and McCain knocked the tar out of the guy with verbal feather dusters during the NH debate. I cannot wait to see him get smoked.

Oh yeah, what's McCain going to do? Shake his cane at them with one hand while leaning against his walker with the other, shouting "Hey you kids, get off my lawn!"

Oh, that's right, McCain was a prisoner of war, so that automatically makes him a tough guy. At least as long as his prostrate doesn't act up.

Well, after listening to that well thought out refute, how could I not see otherwise?

/Jeez you're embarassing..

They know you from other threads and know its pointless to try and refute your ideas. Hell, if you read the politics tab and still think voting for McCain is a good idea, then I can't even begin to imagine how stubborn your must be.

Yes, I am stubborn against voting for socialism as a cure for all that ails us. You go ahead though. At least the packaging is prettier this time, and has nice labels like "Hope" and "Change" on it this time as well.

What's wrong with adding some socialism to the system? Virtually every first world nation other than us has done it, and we all ready have to a limited degree. What's wrong with the government promoting the security of its people? Why is socialism a bad word to you?

I like Biden too. Tough as nails, and won't take no shiat from any foreign threats. He is the balls to accompany Obama's vagina-sisterhood campaign. Some of the vagina following may hate him at first, but after getting a little breaking in they'll cum to love him.

You know I would LOVE to see Fred as VP for McCain. Those debates would be GRAND. I don't give a flying fark which side of the isle your on, a Biden Thompson debate would be good for this country. I just don't think Thompson was in it long enough with enough energy to keep himself on the short list. I would be incredibly surprised but very happy.

I don't know. Did governing Arkansas really prepare Clinton for the rigors of the White House? Things seemed to go pretty well during that time. Being a governor might help you in the first couple of months, but it seems to me like the capacity to learn is the most important quality in getting the hang of being president.

Governors can be every bit as scary as senators.

RemyDuron: Why is socialism a bad word to you?

"Socialism = Marxism" is another one of those stillborn Boomer-generation hang-ups that contaminates modern day discourse. This is a group of people whose parents and grandparents grew up thinking that the Reds were going to cascade across the Bering Strait and force us all into a Communist hell that makes "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch" look like the Chilean Miracle.

I'm somewhere between being sick of it, and wondering if everyone over the age of 40 in North America weren't selectively dropped on their heads at birth to see what retarded and reality-disconnected political beliefs would later develop.

PresidentPutz: muck4doo,

Do you drive a highway to get to work? An interstate to visit other areas?

You do realize that they are the result of a socialist-like project that was created to put Americans to work and bolster the nations economy as well as strengthen the American Military to react quickly and effectively to threats to the domestic security (Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956)

Sometimes a little socialism is a good thing.

Yes, a little socialism is a good thing, and that is what we pay taxes for. To make OUR nation better. If it wasn't for my taxes and socialism, we would never have the the casinos on the river. However, things also get out of hand, like they are now.I can say it, becuase I am Mexican, and don't care what you lib white boys say, but yes, illegal immigration is hurting America. And idiot socialist are helping it along. I'll say it again....ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS HURTING AMERICA!!!!

because depending on where your background lies, Socialism can mean two very different things:

a) refers to any of various economic and political concepts of state or collective (i.e. public) ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods and services, some of which have been developed into more or less highly articulated theories and/or praxis.

b) refers to what those damned evil chinese and ruskies get up to when we don't have our boot on 'em!

So, by that logic, it'd be better for Obama to NOT realize that he doesn't have the necessary experience?

So when does what particular level of dumb *actually* backfire on a candidate? Knowing their limitations, or NOT knowing their limitations?

Personally, I'd prefer a candidate to know where their limitations are. That's the sign of a good manager -- hire in the skills that you don't have.

This whole issue is relevant because of the numerous attacks against Obama labeling him an out-of-touch, "arugula-eating" elitist. Republicans for some reason enjoy plenty of success due to the misconception that they represent your average joe, and this contradicts that notion.

And before you continue to spread your "Obama's a socialist" McCarthyist bullshiat, try reading about his left-and-right, pragmatic economic plans for once. Here's an informative, eight-page article on which to start: NYT Magazine: "How Obama Reconciles Dueling Views on Economy" (new window)
