(NW Florida Daily News)   Think being punished by deep south state troopers is bad? That'll be nothing in comparison to what Uncle Sam does to the 12 Air Force men and women arrested after they were clocked at 143 mph on their way to a charity event   (nwfdailynews.com) divider line 202

My guess is an LOR from the squadron commander and base driving privileges revocation for a year...

The group was part of the Pacesetters Motorcycle Club

Obvious?

You know, for some reason I'm more upset with the way the cops blocked traffic than the speeding. Yeah, speeding can be bad, but driving slow to block traffic is just begging for an accident.

This will all be blamed on Pvt. Lindie England.

Meh, some fines and a slap on the wrist. Maybe a butt chewing by their CO.

I've come here for pics of state troopers punishing people.

I hope I will not be disappointed.

TFA: Airmen are not only responsible for adhering to state laws, but also for setting an example of good conduct on and off duty

As a civilian who works on-base, I'm really getting a kick out of that...

Aww couldnt just let em go. they were on their way to a charity event. I mean as far as im concerned, riding your motorcycle that wrecklessly really only puts you in danger. I suppose you could be endangeing other people, but not really that much. I mean even if you hit an suv goign 140 on a motorcycle, your very dead and the suv will have a some body damage. I say let motorcyclist do what they want. If there truly stupid theyll pay the price.

I believe they felt the need. The need for speed.

You're probably right. When I was in, there was a guy who got caught going 75 in a 35 on base. If I recall correctly, that is exactly the punishment he got. Which is not terrible, but it's still a pretty severe CLM.

I'm failing to see how their doing 140mph on the Interstate is really hurting anyone else. If they wreck and die, who do they really hurt but themselves?

2008-08-21 12:16:44 PM
Since some of them were assigned to the 1st SOW I think punishment will be more than just LOR,s and loss of base driving priviledges.

I figure at least some NJP and tranfers out of the Wing.

One of them was in his 40s. He should figure on putting in his retirment papers.

Body damage? From a 500lb+ bike going 140mph with a rider or two?

here's the math problem...Bike A traveling 140mph hits Tahoe B going in the same direction at 75mph. How much force does Bike A exert on Tahoe B if bike A is 650lbs with passenger?

Getting clocked at that speed would break your nose.

2008-08-21 12:20:06 PM
They got off easy... In Virginia, they can (and will) charge you with reckless driving and give you 1 day in jail for every mph over 90. Yes, that would be 50 days in jail for speeding at 140mph.

/go to the track for that kind of speed, genius

Being a sport bike rider myself of a bike too fast for me (GSX-R750), I understand the overwhelming feeling to ride that bike as fast as it will go, no matter where I am. There's just something about high performance sport bikes. But going 140+ on a public highway is insane, I would never break triple digits unless I was on a closed track.

Until the motorcyclist startles the lady in the SUV putting on makeup, causing here to overcorrect, roll over, and start a 12-car pileup.

they wreck into someone then they're inconvenienced waiting for their car to be repaired. no reason someone else's death wish should fark up any of my plans, take that shiat to a track.

An 800lb motorcycle flying through the air at 140mph would kinda hurt if it hit you.

No joke. Just hitting a human body (or deer, or what have you) at rest at that speed will total most vehicles these days.

Isn't the max NJP something like a 6-month suspension of pay? I seem to remember that from back in my day. I'm pretty much thinking they get a few months of 7/12's, a decent fine, and said LOR. Plus the given of an ass-chewing. Depending on re-up times, some of those that wanted to do the full 20 are going to have to a lot of 'splainin'.

No, see, one function of the cops is to protect idiots like that from themselves. Think of how much money it saves in cleaning up all that blod and oil off the road, not to mention the monstrous traffic jams just one dead biker can cause.
