Has the McCain campaign distanced themselves from McCain's comments yet?

2008-08-21 07:01:24 AM
If you ever wanted people to not vote for you, then make sure you mention something about reinstating the draft, even if its just that you wouldn't be against it.

And wouldn't this do better on the politics page?

2008-08-21 07:02:07 AM
who cares. The liberal media wont give a shiat. this will be ignored like every thing else about mccain is ignored.

I now leave this thread to watch 50 people come in and say "pay grade" or some other BS.

I'm registered, when do we start shipping troops to Poland?

2008-08-21 07:08:35 AM
Mah, the group that would be drafted doesn't vote anyways and mccains supporters probably wouldn't mind them young whipper snappers being off their lawn for 3 years.

2008-08-21 07:09:18 AM
Being a new 18 year old, I can't exactly say this is comforting, but then again, I wasn't planning on voting for McCain. Still, the idea of serving in the military terrifies me, and diying especially so. I suppose I could file as a conciencious objector though. Hell if things get really farked up, Canada's another option, though I'd hate myself for doing it. I love America, but I dont want to get shot to prove it.

They'll just dismiss it as Keith Olbermann.

Yeah, and if your option was vote and be safe, or don't vote and get your ass shipped off to Iraq, or Iran, or Russia, or whoever else ticks McInsane off, don't you think they would be a bit more apt to vote?

To me this means one of three things:
1) He supports a draft, since that worked out so well in Vietnam.
2) He's pandering to his audience without any realization of what kind of campaign commercial it will make.
3) He couldn't follow the woman's question so he spouted some inane bullcrap even though the part about calling for the draft was the last part before he answered.

Of the three, the third one disturbs me most. If he doesn't have the attention span to follow a question like that and not unintentionally call for a draft, he would be a rotten president. We already have a President who can't form a complete sentence half the time, we don't need another.

America should own its wars. McCain is 100% correct. We want to fight our wars for oil and hegemony, than pony up America. Stop hiring foreigners and mercenaries to do your dirty work. Rome wasn't built in a day.

I think he was just being nice to the lady and should have said I agree with "most" of what you said. Why would we need to reinstate the draft anyway?

Keef Olberdouche... World's Worst Person

How anyone can take anything that reprobate has to say seriously is truly mind boggling.

No, McCain does not support the draft (p0ps - not Rick Roll etc blah blah) . As usual, the world's worst person (p0ps - not RR) has attempted to use his Houdiniesque slight of hand to try and stir up shiat, by creating the shiat from thin air. McCain is focusing on the meat of the question and not the woman's exclamation at the end, obviously.

If you want to see who truly and admantly supports the draft, watch this video (p0ps - not RR). *hint: he's Pelosi's left-hand man.

2008-08-21 07:22:27 AM
AND. I'd rather see us reinstate the draft than see BlackWater cross the Rubicon.

Now tell us how to get the people who were for the war (the rich and the ignorant) to fight it, while exempting those of use who knew it was a really, really, really dumb idea.

As much as I hate to admit it, MSNBC is becoming the FOX News of the left. Now, I think Olberman does a better job at backing up his positions than O'Rilley does, but that's probably because I tend to lean to the left. Anyway, it'll probably be dismissed by some as out of context, or inaccurate because it came from MSNBC, rather than a more central news outlet.

I doubt that he would be so stupid as to intentionally support the draft publicly, so I think it is #3. He seemed tuned out through the second half of the question and was waiting for the woman to stop talking.

I thought that he was supposed good at this town hall thing? Hmmm.

2008-08-21 07:28:27 AM
He probably just didn't hear the question.

Yesterday, the Associated Press asked John McCain, who was on route to a meeting, what he thought of the right-wing hatchet-job. McCain responded, "Gotta keep your sense of humor."

Soon after, in an interesting twist, a McCain spokesperson said McCain "actually did not hear the question, and would not be commenting on the book."

olbermann does a segment on this = its not being ignored! MSNBC did it!

flag pins, the pledge, african garb, black power, home ownership, communism, carter, oil from shale, paris hilton, who germany likes, the anti-christ, campaign symbols that look like presidental symbols, the weather underground, not knowing what god thinks, talking to other countries, acting like a presidental candidate, what food he eats, dollar bills, racist videos that never surface, being too skinny, working out too often, responding to attacks "like a baby would", the race card, "ageism", people unfairly donating more money to obama than to mccain, "big corn" = LIBERAL MEDIA HAS A LOVE AFFAIR WITH OBAMA!

It's pretty clear the woman was decrying the treatment of veterans and McCain was agreeing with that, not that a draft is necessary. Non-story.

While I agree that McCain's official position is that he is not in favor of the draft, I'm not hearing much of an address of the fact that he said he was here. He said, and I quote: "I don't dissagree with a thing you said." Considering the woman was addressing the draft right before he said that, McCain either wasn't paying attention or was just trying to be polite.

Occam's Chainsaw: exempting those of us

Drafts don't work that way. Nor do taxes or death.

Own America by own its institutions. A Republican Militarytm is bad. B A D. bad. And that's what we have today.

2008-08-21 07:33:03 AM
No politician is 100% against having a draft.
A nation needs troops, and if men do not volunteer or canot be bought... They'll be aquired by some other means. Den or repub, it's the reality that faces us.

McCain was stupid for being honest.

News flash...a lot of dumbocraps support the draft as well. As do I. I think at this point in our nation, we need something that unites everyone and what better than to serve your country. Maybe it'll turn just one inner city turd into a man or woman instead of a baby momma or a drug dealing douche.

2008-08-21 07:44:30 AM
No need for a draft. Our prisons are chock full of people who would gladly trade their current situation for the chance to go rape, pillage, and burn with the government's approval in some shiathole halfway across the world. We could call it the dirty dozen-million.

Besides, we have to clear out some prison space soon if Skookum's prophecies are to come to fruition.

I get what you're trying to say, but was the "inner city" slur nessisary?

Also, if you're a troll, you get an 8/10 for the performance. Enough to get me to respond, but shy of getting me to go into full rage mode.

As I understand it, the two furiously hate each other. Olberman usually reserves the top spot in his "Worst Person in the World" for O'Reily.

On a positive note, the draft was responsible for some of the most kickass songs of the 1960s and 70s. If we have to have a new draft to have the modern equivalent of 'Fortunate Son', sign me up.

Another chickshiat American that would rather outsource wars than take responsibility for them -- funny your first instinct is to blame an anchor on MSNBC -- his crime? LIBRUL!.

But, who cares as long as we finance our wars and tax breaks on the Chinese economy.

Bringing back the draft would be a great idea, but this time, no college deferment. If the children of the rich had to serve in these pointless foreign adventures, they'd never happen. The only reason 'Nam happened is that the children of the wealthy could hide out on campus while poor Negroes, Latinos and hillbillys did the fighting. It would sure be fun to watch the changes in position that would ensue here on Fark - it would turn a lot of these oh-so-patriotic keyboard warriors right around.
