A tense and paranoid Russia? Pissed off about my nearby installation of untested missle technology?

It's more likely than you think!

Well, I'm not really worried in terms of all out nuclear war. MAD is still in effect, so that should be enough deterrent one would hope. But as far as some shiathole proxy war ala' Vietnam? Yeah I could see that cranking up here. Get ready Ukraine.

Yeah... That is kind of a silly thing to think up. Sorry guys, I'll take off the tinfoil hat now.

A popular bar had a new robotic bartender installed. A guy came in for a drink and the robot asked him, "What's your IQ?" The man replied, "130." So the robot proceeded to make conversation about physics, astronomy, and so on.

The man listened intently and thought, "This is really cool." Another guy came in for a drink and the robot asked him, "What's your IQ?" The man responded, "120." So the robot started talking about the Superbowl, dirt bikes, and so on.

The man thought to himself, "Wow, this is really cool." A third guy came in to the bar. As with the others, the robot asked him, "What's your IQ?" The man replied, "80." The robot then said, "So, how are things in Poland these days?"

ObscureNameHere: "Wow! Could imagine what might happen if Russia tried to place missiles right on America's doorstep? The mind boggles...."

Yeah. But an easy solution would be to allow Russians to inspect etc. to make sure they are only capable of intercepting attacks, and the US could allow Russia to do the same in Cuba. Pooty-poots and Georgie-Boy could save face by agreeing that it is to guard against any potential future crackpots that may get "elected" in the future...

Condi Rice: "Missile defense, of course, is aimed at no one."

I'm not sure you're clear on how this works.
Aiming greatly improves the effectiveness.

MAD only works if neither side does not see itself as being at a technological disadvantage. That all goes out the window if one side feels it may not be able to launch in time if attacked first.

Goddamn it, I went through this same backwards-ass bullshirt in the 1980s. What is wrong with this stupid farking planet??? Another stinking, stupid Cold War.

Great. Now I get to sit through another red white and blue circle jerk. Hey, how about a movie where Russia invades the United States through its midwestern high schools? It would be great for grunt recruitment, and we could have a soundtrack by the Army marching band and Rihanna!! We could make "Ivan" into the new turrists!

Jesus, I just said "Ivan". I am old.

I wonder in NATO will fast-track membership for Ukraine and Georgia to retaliate against Russia. Of course, Europe is going to have to buddy up with the A-rabs to get oil and gas after Russia cuts them off.

Nestea Plunge: MAD only works if neither side does not see itself as being at a technological disadvantage. That all goes out the window if one side feels it may not be able to launch in time if attacked first.

True enough, but the Russians know what happens if they launch anything. Total annihilation on both sides. Rogue states are the one thing that upsets MAD. The scenario that is a worry is some sort of a proxy nuclear war where Russia sells/gives/loses a nuke to a rouge state and gets their objectives accomplished that way.

"Missile defense, of course, is aimed at no one."

"Missile defenses, including an interceptor base in Poland, provide a necessary and critical capability that can be used to defend both nations and other NATO allies from long-range missile threats" launched from the Middle East, the declaration says.

What???? If there's no target, you can't name the target. Maybe we are targeting to the guy standing behind the middle east and the middle east just was in the wrong place at the wrong time. thats it, I feel better.

I think the Russians bombing Georgian graveyards was intended to send a message to zombie Reagan.
