I'm sure Wil Smith auditioned a lot of up-and-coming young
stars and finally settled on his own son due to his tremendous
acting ability.....

/Sorry I can't type anymore; I'm snickering too much

Well then... I'm sure it'll have the same runaway success of the recent remake of The Honeymooners.

Weak. The film had an 80s charm to it that can't be duplicated now. With Smith directing it will just be another big budget wank with a contrived ending.

What's next? The BMX Kid? License to Drive?

Some movies should just be left alone. This is one of them.

While nothing much went on in Macchio's career after the Karate Kid movies, ever notice how well his female co-stars like Elizabeth Shue and Tamlyn Tomita did? Even Robin Lively has had a fairly active career post-Kid.

Maybe Smith will remake Pluto Nash, too.

I thought I just saw the modern remake of the Karate Kid. It's called "Never Back Down".

It's about a teenage boy who moves to Southern California. As he gets used to his new life, he catches the eye of a martial arts bully, who thrashes him. But then, he manages to hook up with a local martial arts master, who agrees to apprentice him (but not for revenge!). After a lot of work, our hero finally meets the bully in the big local tournament in dramatic fashion. Oh--there's a cute blonde girl who takes to him too...

Sound familiar?

FWIW-It was still a pretty good little movie-as long as you know you're not expecting "The Departed"

Cant they just digitally remaster the movie add a few more stormtroopers Cobra Kai members and call it good?

to Quote Will Smith ... "oh, hell no.."

/from the date of the article, it looks like "no" it is.

Why does Will Smith keep shoving his son into movies? I saw an interview with the kid and he doesn't even like making movies. Said it's boring, before he wandered off to jump on a trampoline.

Martial arts magnate Stephen Chow ("Kung Fu Hustle") has confirmed online rumours that he's in talks to play wise and wrinkly warrior Mr Myiagi in a ''Karate Kid'' remake. [...] "But it depends on my schedule. As you know, next year I will work on two movies, 'Dragon Ball' and 'Journey to the West.'"

Holy crap! Monkey? With Steven Chow? This can only end in martial-arts bad-assedness.

/Also, I always wanted a dragon that turned into a Jeep
//but what do you feed it?

They'll place far too much emphasis on the guy saying Sweep the leg and all the cruel charm will drain away.

I have a theory that studios could save a TON of money on all these remakes by simply re-releasing the originals. I hear talk of a Nightmare on Elm Street remake. Why they'd do a remake of a movie that has a chain of sequels and could just have a new story is beyond me -- especially since the Freddy story is consistent through all the movies [#2, where he's possessing people, excepted.]

A remake would annoy me, most likely and I'd Netflix it. Re-release the original, as I was too young to see it in a theatre when it came out, and I'd be there opening night.

I really think this would work for most of these stupid remakes. Very few have in any way improved on the originals.

The kid is farking 10 years old? Macchio was in his 40's or something when he played the role of Daniel Larusso? Is this going to be about a little kid who gets in school yard scuffles with bullies then learns karate to beat them? The tartet audience is...6-12 year olds?

He was in Beer League, it took me almost the whole movie to recognize him, and to ask myself why I was watching Beer League

Would be worth watching just to see Will Smiff's kid get his ass kicked for a while. Turn it off half way through and will be a good movie.

Aside from Leaving Las Vegas and Adventures in Babysitting (a guilty pleasure), what else has Shue done that was at least remotely noteworthy?

While Hollywood is at it, please remake this:
