This is what was on T.V. EVERY FRIGGIN' NIGHT circa 1988 when this story first broke.

Thank you so much, A Current Affair, for burning your promos onto my psyche.

If it's any consolation, my brain has also been warped by that spinning pyramid of death.

Heh, A Current Affair. My mom used to watch the shiat out of that show. I was 8 when this all happened but I still remember that douchebag and all the coverage.

I'm glad he's headed back to jail. Good riddance you sack of shiat.

Please not again.

That trial was the most tedious event of the 80's.

My most memorable memory of Current Affair is Lloyd Christmas selling his decapitated parakeet to the blind boy for 25 bucks.

He pleaded guilty Monday to selling drugs. The Manhattan district attorney's office says Chambers is promised 19 years and four months in prison when he is sentenced on Sept. 2.

Seems a bit long for just selling drugs.

I'm always amazed that known murderer assholes like that have girlfriends. His romantic resume is so dazzling...

Seriously, how could you look at his past and say, "This is prime boyfriend material?"

Granted, I doubt he could've done much else to make a living ... being a convicted murderer and all. Sure, he's a douche but once you serve time you're pretty much screwed in this world, which is why the American prison system is farked. Prison is supposed to be about rehabilitation, and yes I know that some people are just incapable of being rehabilitated but that should be the primary goal. Banning a convicted criminal from ever being able to hold a decent job is not rehabilitation, however.

All the cocaine probably had something everything to do with it.

All the parental money has something to do with it, too.

Plus some crazies *like* the whole "man in prison" thing (I'm looking at you, Melanie!) Sometimes they want to rehabilitate them, despite what Arlo said.

They want a man they can "fix" or nurture. My nurse friend says some nurses are the same way, they hook up with abusive jerks because they see them as broken little boys they can mend with some love. Too bad they still see them that way with two black eyes :P

Mandapants, there was no "Family Money" his mom was a domestic or something who scrimped and saved to send Robert to a fancy school. If Robert hadn't been "a poser" he wouldn't have spent a day in jail. I think people were more offended by the fact that he'd slipped into their world, not that he offed that girl. If he'd had a lot of family money, he'd be managing a hedge fund.

I read a news magazine article about the Levin murder in 1987 or 1988. According to the article, his father earned a six figure salary and the family owned an apartment near the park. That was nothing to sneeze at twenty years ago, even in New York.

His mom was a home health care nurse who spent every penny on that douche's education. (maybe she saw he was a sociopath early on and thought prestigious schools would cure him or he could be a CEO somewhere)
