Facepalm all the way around.

Skawt: I used to live in a building where the one of the upstairs neighbor roommates would come home drunk every night at 3AM, stumble around for a half an hour knocking over everything heavy in his apartment, PEE OUT THE FRONT WINDOW onto the fire escape, then turn his stereo on full blast and pass out.

Yeah, sorry about that.

Skawt: gopher321: Damn, I wish I could get the cops here to raid my neighbour's place. Blasting f*cking reggae at all hours. I've been considering a grenade through the window.

I used to live in a building where the one of the upstairs neighbor roommates would come home drunk every night at 3AM, stumble around for a half an hour knocking over everything heavy in his apartment, PEE OUT THE FRONT WINDOW onto the fire escape, then turn his stereo on full blast and pass out. His drunken roommates apparently slept right through it, although they sure could hear me banging on the door to scream at them.

The first time it happened I was willing to let it slide. The second through fifth times, I went downstairs to the main power panel and shut off all power to their apartment, and turned it back on when I left for work. They kicked him out shortly afterward, to be followed by several police visits looking for him.

/don't live in that neighborhood anymore
//classy people, those Irish
///wish stupidity was a painfully fatal disease

I had downstairs neighbors that used to start their parties around 1am. Usually in their kitchen, which was right under our bedroom. Loud music, which meant shouted conversations we could clearly hear. They also had a 4 year old kid living in the same apartment.

One night I was annoyed at being woken up by them yet again, so I called the cops. They showed up about 5 minutes later, and things got quiet downstairs for about 10 minutes. As soon as they started up again, I called again. This time, multiple cop cars arrived. People were taken outside. One of them tried to drive off, but ended up just reparking his truck after trying to merge with the telephone pole. At least two people went away in handcuffs.

Never heard another peep for the month before the landlord kicked them out. We also learned they'd been lying about their address so they didn't have to pay to send their whelp to the better school in the next town over...

Now, my sister and her boyfriend live downstairs. The only time it gets loud is when we go down to drink and play Rock Star with them.

nashBridges: StreetlightInTheGhetto: Made a right-turn into him on his bike.

If a cyclist is to the right of a vehicle making a right hand turn and there isn't a bike lane - the bicyclist is somewhere he shouldn't be.

I believe he was riding straight on the street, and the motorist made a turn on red without noticing him to the left of her. Then he was just in front of her.

Same thing almost happened to me a few blocks over. The idiot kept trying to yell at me through the CLOSED window of his SUV while I just kept pointing at his light, which was still red. Then I just gave up, flicked him off, and stopped so my heart could slow down.

I'll give my friends this, (most) of us are law-abiding city-registered bike riders. The city registered thing just makes it easier to track down/recover stolen bikes (since the city has verification that you own that bike locked up over there with the registration number on it). But the flip side is we know they know exactly who we are should they choose to ticket. And they do. Not often, but they do.

It gives you a distinct advantage in times like two insurance companies figuring out monies. I doubt he would've gotten as much if he had been the slightest bit at fault.

I passed out drunk a week or so ago with music playing and a cop showed up so I'm getting a kick....

Cop though it was a good idea to shine a maglite in a window to wake me up. I about grabbed my rifle, that would have been interesting.

I'll be damned if the cops are going to take my crowns though.

StreetlightInTheGhetto: Once got the cops called on our house party where someone managed to throw "Hey Ya" on the stereo 6 times. They didn't even fine us. I consider that a mercy cop call.

My friend got hit by a car once. Made a right-turn into him on his bike. The day of the Cher concert in town.

He ended up with decent settlement money from the insurance company, more money if he decided to get the scars on his chin fixed up, and went to Europe to visit his working-abroad significant other with the money. Oh, and bought him a Tiffany's ring (I got to be there to help him pick it out - I think the salespeople felt sorry for me until we started looking at the men's rings... yeah, of course he was gay, although I had a straight friend who loved Rent. Go figure).

All that, and he STILL made me watch the DVD of the concert tour when it came out. I love that kid, but the thing that he was most pissed off about that day wasn't his bike, or his health, but that he missed the Cher concert.

/still owes me for that one
//wait, paid me off with abundant free local wine and food at the commitment ceremony
///I've heard it's a "What White People Like" cliche, but I do love my gay friends sometimes
////NOT when the Cher gets broken out, though

So, you're a fag... big deal.

After tuning into the opening Olympics festivities and being subjected (along with the rest of the world) to the crazy Scotsmen and their GD bagpipes, perhaps the good council might take steps to outlaw bagpipes altogether--I will provide gasoline and matches.

In this instance, I can understand seizing his speakers--but not the willful destruction of private property--where do they think they are--Israel?

I was Sonny Bono for Halloween a few years ago. I put on some ski gear, had fake blood running down my face and stuck some tree branches in my hat and bibs.

Yeah, horrible expecting people to act civilized. And to actually hand out the punishment the statutes called for. It's an outrage!!!!

Guess what, when his actions cross the property line and disturb others, he gives up the privacy of "a man's house" because he is invading the privacy of his neighbor in his own house.

He had his warning, and ignored it.

/More laws ought to be enforced with just one warning

He made his decision to continue playing music loudly knowing what the consequences could be.

Its not as if a passing policeman just kicked the door in and smashed the stereo when he heard the music. An abatement notice was served, measurements were taken of the noise levels to ensure they breached the law, a warrant was obtained, he pleaded guilty in court - plenty of due process for a jerk who couldn't respect the rights of others.

That isn't how it works lol. If you have a noisy neighbour you cannot call the police (they have far more important stuff to do apparantly) you have to contact the local council's Enviromental Health Agency. Said agency then sends you a log to keep of neighbours noisy behaviour (usually several neighbours are keeping tham) they also send the noisy neighbour a letter informing them that they are being monitered and to turn it down. The log keeping lasts between 4/6 weeks after which the agency comes in with equipment and takes two sample readings for use in court. It is only if the noise abatement order is ignored after that the eqipment is taken.

I was at work a couple of weeks ago and one of the young guys at work was blasting the new rock station on his radio. the boss told him to turn it down several times. Finally the boss cut the cord and antenna to the radio. The kid complained, so the boss took a large hammer and smashed the radio into small pieces.

Problem solved.

You're right. His neighbor should've just walked over there with a handgun, knocked on the door, and then killed him when he opened it.

I'm with real shaman.

I'm thinking a fine would've been sufficient.

I've lived near too many asswipes with nothing better to do than call the cops for imagined infractions. I had one neighbor who I discovered looked through our living room window with binoculars and whenever anyone turned the TV on, she had us on speed dial, and would call immediately, at the click of the power knob and scream "Turn yer Goddamn TV down or I'm callin' the cops!!!!"

It's worth mentioning that this particular TV was a tube set that took about 5 minutes before it was warmed up enough to produce ANY sound, and that sound came through a 4 inch speaker. So yeah... biatch was nuts. She also used to sic her Doberman on the neighborhood kids walking by until my friend decided to fill a 16" pipe half full of lead shot before walking over to my place one day. Last time the dog bothered anyone.

I can hear my neighbors playing music once in awhile. We have a couple of Mexican neighbors who are fond of the "La Cucuracha" variety of music. It's not my thing, but what the Hell... They play it in the daytime, & it's not blasting or anything.

"So I say, "Live and let live." That's my motto. "Live and let live." Anyone who can't go along with that, take him outside and shoot the ******. It's a simple philosophy, but it's always worked in our family."

- George Carlin

How about the OCD jagoff whose truck alarm goes off every two and a half hours? Seriously, the alarm's sensitivity is set so it "chirps" in the breeze.

Anyone want to steal a truck? They would be a neighborhood hero.

I have no problem with the fine, but at worst I think they should have taken the stereo in as evidence, unless he did it again AFTER the fine THEN I say smash the sucker.

No really loud NIGHT neighbors but, blasting a few songs, turning it down for a while then doing it again just bugs the hell out of me
