FTA: Andy Saunders converted a 7ft 8ins high VW Camper into a 3.3ft high version - in just three days.

Looks like he did it in two days. What a waste of a good hippie van.

How can this be road legal?? Its seems live even if it crashed with a small car hes gonna get messed up in that thing.

2008-08-04 05:26:11 PM
Low-Ride-Er has "the knowledge".

Not quite the same ring to it.

2008-08-04 05:45:42 PM
We've applied to the Guinness Book of Records and they've indicated this is the world's lowest van.

Are they measuring from the bottom of the frame to the road? Or the roof to the road?

Because Espanola, NM might like a word:

Pic is not a van, but I wasn't really considering that fact.

/ok yes, I'm stupid/drunk/tired
//or any other excuse

2008-08-04 06:25:29 PM
And like I said in the VWVortex thread on that topic:

What, if any, was the effing point doing that?

horonto, that is awesome

And what this guy did is chop. That's not a low rider.

2008-08-04 06:30:00 PM
I'd hit it, because I wouldn't be able to see the damn thing on the road.

2008-08-04 06:30:40 PM
That is a cool looking skateboard.

2008-08-04 06:31:54 PM
horontoCool pic but the one in the article was the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Oh, God. That looks sexy.

/loves old cars like that
//It pains me to see them treated as junk over here

I can't find a picture of it, but it sounds like a stupider version of the "Cigarette Car" Red Green built out of an old city bus.

2008-08-04 06:34:32 PM
3 foot Camper Van?
I guess he could take the shorter skinheads bowling.

2008-08-04 06:34:52 PM
Cool tag?

That's just embarrassing.

2008-08-04 06:35:29 PM
That certainly is madcap.

2008-08-04 06:35:48 PM
I would rather him make it 30 feet tall.

2008-08-04 06:36:59 PM
I can bet I know what size bus this guy took to school.

Low Riders are retarded. Who wants to make ones vehicle less useful? It's like high heels. It's lame.

WTF VW?

That's how you lower a VW Bus. He basically just ruined a perfectly good camper van, asshat!

2008-08-04 06:40:19 PM
was hoping for awesome but it's so farking ugly.

how about a double-decker VW van? now that would be awesome.

2008-08-04 06:40:49 PM
I'll bet it corners nicely... pretty low center of gravity on that thing. There's some damn fine bug-eating opportunities driving that thing - - big ol' fat baldface hornet coming at you at 80mph...

2008-08-04 06:43:24 PM
This man deserves to be taken out back behind the wood shed and beaten with the blunt end of a tire iron, not a farking Guinness record.

You know, I don't see the good in it. It's totally useless now except for a few freaked out looks. The green type II combi pictured above is really cool. Thanks PimpbOT3000.

big time, and no way should that legal with the driver sticking out so far

Back when I was a kid, we used to take a lot of family road trips in our 1978 VW Westfalia.

/I was sad when my Dad sold it last year.
//It was like part of the family.
///*Sniff*
////It went to a good home, though.

Something must be wrong with my eyes because that thing looks like a farking photshop.

2008-08-04 06:56:31 PM
That's not a low rider at all. Hell, that's not even a chop-top! It's just a vehicle that some moran took a sawz-all to, and chopped all to hell. No engineering or anything going into this project. Big deal, I've seen more innovation when they destroy cars on Top Gear.

You wanna talk about low cars, here's an example:

Why not ? He's only risking himself, and it's no worse than any number of classic cars.

billyboyxoxox: I don't see the good in it. It's totally useless now except for a few freaked out looks.

That's pretty much the point of show cars. It's only a T3, it's not like he's chopped up a rarity.

2008-08-04 07:02:27 PM
Yeah, but does it still get shiatty gas mileage, have zero power, and break down in expensive ways all the farking time?

/yes, I owned one
//more like it owned me
///pwned by a veedub

Acharne: Low Riders are retarded. Who wants to make ones vehicle less useful? It's like high heels. It's lame.

A lot of lowriders aren't daily drivers. I would venture to say most. It's not about having the most practical car in the world. Custom cars are a hobby and passion that people get involved with for many other reasons than simply having a useful vehicle.

Driving around in a Honda Accord will get you from point A to point B. Driving around in this thing will also get you from point A to point B, but will snap the necks of every other driver on the road in the process. It might not be your thing, but from my experience, it's a lot of fun.

I think it's a DeLorean.

/although, I'm basing that opinon solely on the words "De" and "Lorean" being printed along the side skirt

completely reengineering the whole thing to fit into 3 feet is no engineering but chopping springs on a delorean is engineering?

That's what I look like in a current model Jetta with a sunroof. Those have no crown room.

It's not my car, but I do know that the springs on it were not chopped; because it doesn't have any. It's a custom air-bag suspension that had to be designed for the car, because they don't exactly make custom kits for the DeLorean. So yeah, I'd count that as engineering something unique.

I'd call you a tard back, but I don't want to insult the mentally handicapped.
