FTA: "I'm trying to get Chad's jersey signed for his son," (Willie) Anderson said of wide receiver Chad Johnson. "I think it's big. It's sad to see him leave his hometown team. It's even sadder that injuries cost him the status of being one of the all-time elite players.

Yeah, like being a first ballot shoe-in for Cooperstown isn't quite good enough.

Griffey is now with the Chicago White Sox, in first place in the American League Central.

Fail.

I wish Griffey was the one to break the home run record. He's a real classy guy and it would have meant something. I don't like that he left, but I can't fault him for it. He has two seasons left in him at most.

Not, even, close, BUD!

Can't wait for Gay-Rod to break it, then to be broken by Pujols.

It's not often you see a player DFA'd when he leads his team in wins and innings pitched. (Wins: not relevant. Innings pitched: pretty relevant, which is what makes it more surprising.) This team now officially has the most anonymous starting rotation in the major leagues. Should be fun to root for.

Had he not been injured so often in the past 9 years, he had a legitimate shot at breaking it.

Griffey has lost about 4 full seasons worth of games to injury.
If he followed his career average in those 3 lost seasons, he'd have about 160 more HR's based on a 40 HR per 162 game average. That would put him at 768 right now, and we'd be talking about whether or not he could catch Sadaharu Oh's Japanese record.

His breaking of Aaron's record would have been celebrated a whole lot more than it was for *.

Pujols is about 100 HR behind A-Rod's HR at his age.

Pujols DOB: 01/16/1980
Rodriguez DOB: 07/27/1975

Not including 2008 because it isn't over, Rodriguez had 518 HR in 14 seasons, or 37 HR per year. Pujols had 282 in 7 seasons, or 40.3 HR per year. Conveniently through 2007 Pujols had played exactly half as many seasons, so double his numbers and he is projected to be at 564 through 14 seasons.

Not much difference, but Pujols has better power numbers (in the NL mind you) and although we weren't discussing it I believe his .333 AVG is better than Gay-Rod's .307 (also off subject Pujols' $14 mil salary makes him far more attractive than Rodriguez at $28 mil). And he isn't banging that hag Madonna.

And neither of those helps you in a HR record.

But he started later and he's not likely to continue to produce at the same rate. That's why HR at a given age is more important.
