Why would the DNC want to replay negative McCain soundbytes? Why give them more exposure than they deserve? It's a marketing strategy. If others are playing McCain's disastrous message and ripping it to shreds, why give it more traction? Just play the negative feedback.

The point of the ad was not to address McCain's claims; the point was to show the contrast in McCain's campaign styles.

Then it followed up with the quote.

However, I think you are more correct than the the reporter is. Obama referred to the opposition ("they") in very broad terms.
