Which, ironically, is a negative ad.

gustakooka: Which, ironically, is a negative ad.

While I fundamentally agree with that, what the ad says is also true.

2008-07-31 02:55:49 PM
BA-zing!

It is true to some extent. In the past 2 weeks, McCain's mouthpieces have said the most outlandish shiat.

gustakooka: Which, ironically, is a negative ad.

Does that somehow negate the truthfulness of the ad?

gustakooka: Which, ironically, is a negative ad.

Not ironic. Negative ads are not, by definition, disrepectful or uncivil.

2008-07-31 03:06:21 PM
Notice 2 things...

1) The ad doesn't feature any footage of said "attacks"
2) Obama does not express his approval of this ad

Just a little food for thought. Make of it what you will.

Jesus, can we move the election up? I'm sick of this crap already.

He forgets stuff. ALL THE TIME.

2008-07-31 03:07:27 PM
wait, what's disrespectful or uncivil about comparing your opponent to pillars of American society the likes of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton?

2008-07-31 03:07:29 PM
My favorite McCain ad is the one that says Obama is responsible for high oil prices. Fair enough he is against drilling in the United States, and says no increased offshore drilling, but responsible for current prices?

2008-07-31 03:07:37 PM
Meanwhile, Obama accused McCain of being a racist.

"Nobody thinks that Bush and McCain have a real answer to the challenges we face. So what they're going to try to do is make you scared of me," Obama said. "You know, `he's not patriotic enough, he's got a funny name,' you know, `he doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.'"

Why would the Republicans abandon one of their most successful tactics?

Whether you agree with them or not, negative attack ads were used to great effect in 2000 and 2004. Get a bunch of Madison Ave. hacks on the payroll. let them do focus groups, find hot buttons, and then turn 'em loose on the airwaves.

The Democrats have been playing catch up in that department for a while...

though I'm not sure how effective the Republicans will be with that tactic this time around. Who knows, though?

Do you see a difference in an ad featuring Obama being portrayed with Paris and Birtney and this ad where it shows that McCain said he would run an honorable campaign and now is clearly not?

obama's such an elitist, he's never even seen a dollar bill to know that there's only one president on it. now i'm scared of him.

In another shocking turn of events, Obama trots out the "They're going to make race a factor" message again once he sees he's slipping in the polls... just like in the primaries.

Nobody talks about race
Obama says they're going to make it about race
The media gets a hard-on about race
Obama says I told you they'll make it about race

Obama is presumptuous thinking he's already president. Who does he think he is? I'm John McCain and I approved this message.

McCain will be the next president, no matter how he chooses to run his campaign. He can just phone it in if he wants.

It's sad but true.

I might be moving over to the Jeremy Bates end of the political spectrum.

Good job DNC (for once), hope to see more ads like this that hold McCain responsible.

Right now McCain is running negative ads that completely lie about Obama's position. Even some of them McCain attacks Obama for the exact same position that McCain has himself.

I used to respect McCain years ago, but now I think he is just pathetic. He gave up all the things he said he stood for up for power.

I didn't hear any accusation in that statement, in fact it's 100% true. Just because you guys don't run around calling him a lawn jockey does not mean you're not thinking it.

I'm sure the DNC is out running ads against the wishes of the DNC candidate.

In other words, DNC party money went to this ad, not Obama's tens of millions of campaign dollars. Happens all the time. In fact, the RNC does this too, and most assuredly they're going to be doing a lot more of this from now till November simply because it's a lot more well-funded than the McCain campaign.

Not that it'll do them any good though.

No, you've got me all wrong. I'm in the bag for Obama. I just have no faith in the rest of the nation. I think every crusty racist and uh.."capitalist" (poor people that are afraid of socialism or anything labeled as such) will be out in droves on election day.

Obama should win handily. But I don't think he will.

2008-07-31 03:20:33 PM
All of the Dem blogs I see, which are working with the Obama camp, went negative on McCain from day one. What with the "is he senile" stuff and all of that.

Obama is trying to pull a Bush, go negative through other people and claim that he himself is above it all.

Can't blame McCain for fighting back. That's politics.

mercator_psi: In other words, DNC party money went to this ad, not Obama's tens of millions of campaign dollars

This money wasn't supposed to exist at the DNC. At least that's why Obama said he was breaking his pledge on public financing.

Yeah, like I said, it's an effective tactic... but a poll in July doesn't really mean much.

The electoral map is still pretty much in Obama's favor at this point.

But we'll see how it all turns out...

Given that, McCain's promise to keep it respectful and civil seems a bit short sighted. Or a it was a lie, or as you said, he's a moran.

Well, they have some money, just not oodles and oodles of it like the Obama campaign does, or the RNC for that matter. I'm glad they spent what little they had on something like this. It needed to be said.

He's not calling Bush and McCain racist; he's suggesting that they're appealing to some people's racist sensibilites. It's a subtle distiction.
