Is it just me, or does that arrow look like it's going right into that duck's ass?

Pretty good headline, but I think I saw this arrow-in-live-duck story decades ago... please tell me the media isn't recycling old human interest stories and passing them off as current?

Please?

Geez, this happens what, every year, sometimes more? Just once I'd like to see a news report about some dumbass middle-schooler or teenager getting hospitalized, because a "poor duckie" with a dozen arrows sticking out of it's body went all berserker on the kid and left him critically injured and bleeding out on the ground.

That being said, here's a picture of what happens when a Muscovie breeds with a mallard: Afro-puff Duck!

Shakespeare's Monkey: see what you can do for this poor lady.

That is just disturbing on so many levels. Reminds me of a schizophrenic Haitian woman that used to come into a grocery store I worked at a few decades back. She'd come in all wild-eyed and babbling, sometimes wearing torn clothes with a boob hanging out th side of a ripped shirt... she was *completely* mad.

Florida law does not allow ducks to be released back into the wild. So, it will remain at the Ocala Wildlife Sanctuary in Marion County and be used for educational purposes.

Why?

Why is this considered cruel when bow hunting is legal?
I'm sure plenty of animals die a slow, painful death from non lethal bow hunting injuries every year.
The person who did this is probably some stupid kid imitating what he sees on ESPN Outdoors.

No, they don't.

Now, most probably this was someone who was poaching, because as far as I know it isn't duck season in any of the states (though I could be wrong), and generally you would use a shotgun anyway.

Either that, or someone was practicing with a bow, and this arrow missed the target and happened to hit a duck. It's not out of the question: I lose arrows *ALL* the time in the woods behind my house. There is also a vernal pool near by that attracts ducks in the Spring, although it is out of the line of fire of the bow range I have set up. If a duck happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, though, I could in theory hit it accidentally.

So, if they figure out who did it, and the circumstances, I think a fine would be appropriate. More if it was intentional, and less if it was an accident.

Just as an aside, I think that those who value animal life above that of humans, or who somehow think that animal cruelty is *WORSE* than similar cruelty to humans needs to seriously reexamine their priorities. Especially if they are not a vegan/vegetarian.

FTFA: A search is under way for the shooter.

Yeah, okay. You're gonna go look for the shooter. How are you gonna find him? Use lazors to project the trajectory of the arrow and a special kind of tree pollen that'll identify the EXACT back yard of the guy who shot the arrow? You gonna call this guy in to help?

I think that people who value animals over people are those who think animals are oh so innocent and cute and never do anything cruel like us big bad people do.

Me, I think animals are tasty. The cruelty makes them taste even better.

Mmmm. Cruelty. *drool*

Shakespeare's Monkey: That's hot! Is she still around?

No, I think she finally got committed for good. She was the epitome of the crazy homeless person, and reeked in ways even the "pet food people" didn't smell. One of the last times she was escorted from our store, the manager on duty who "helped her out" was a really skinny pale guy, a Puerto Rican with an unusually high metabolism; he literally had less than 2% body fat, and weighed maybe 120 pounds, at 6' tall. Her first reaction upon seeing him was: "How you be walkin? HOW YOU BE WALKIN? YOU LOOK JUST LIKE A CORPSE!" I guess she thought he was a zombie; we all had a good laugh about that.

For some reason, I read that as "duck arrested ..." and I started trying to rationalize why on earth someone would, or even could, arrest a duck.

Sorry ... I'm sick, I'm on pain meds and I've been up since 4:30.
