patrick767:So... FDR was bad and also kind of like Hitler? FDR? He's our longest serving President and still widely considered one of our best. Seriously, wtf?

FDR should be a middle of the pack President at best. He trampled on the Constitution like no one's business. I'll take the Roosevelt on Mt. Rushmore any day of the week and twice on Sunday over FDR.

Man the Republicans really have gone off the deep end.

At least they used to sort of hide their hate under euphemisms. That all seems to have gone now.

I met him back in college. He was a guest speaker on campus, and I had my Ferris Bueller's Day Off DVD autographed.

JohnnyC: I used to think Ben Stein was funny and interesting. He has gone out of favor in my mind.

I used to respect him until I heard his views on intelligent design.

One thing Stein should know a lot about - fascism, he worked for Nixon.

Ben Stein is a useless tool. The only thing he ever did that was worth a crap was FBDO...

Ah yes, because Nixon was such a great guy.

Come talk to me when my eyes are a little red. Thanks.

Nestea Plunge: LordPistachio: but it is incredibly naive to think that you're doing anything other than choosing the lesser of two evils just like in every election.

You hate America or something? Why not start a viable 3rd party instead of biatching about the two parties we have?

It would be easier to develop a means of travelling faster than light and getting the hell out of here.

2008-07-24 03:33:21 PM
For some reason, Stein thinks being Jewish makes him an authority on Hitler. His "expelled" movie professed how the theory of evolution led to the holocaust or some crazy thing like that.

2008-07-24 03:33:24 PM
Let me say this about that.... Ben Stein is 100% on target. It's too bad he's not running for president.

2008-07-24 03:33:51 PM
Ben Stein's dull voiced comments have hit bottom. The guy is still a shill. I can't wait until it is pointed out that Ben does rim jobs on dead sheep. Sorry, Ben that is that too classy?

//Just hoping.

i was just down there....this was his opening statement:

as you may have noticed, I dont look like the previous candidates who have spoken before me.

obama sho dun made a black joke!

man that place was PACKED.

Add me to the list.

I truly respected Ben Stein as a really clever person 'til I heard about this ID bullshiat.

/maybe he IS going senile...

If they were really worrying about something "the Führer would have done", they should take a serious look at nationalistic rituals like the pledge of allegiance, flag-worshiping and similar brainwashing crap.

SockMonkeyHolocaust: patrick767: So... FDR was bad and also kind of like Hitler?

To be fair, FDR only rounded up and interned people who were dramatically different than white people.

But Stein's point was that creating a demagogue is dangerous. FDR's New Deal spending didn't bring the country out of the Depression, war loans and war industry manufacturing for Britain did. Germany came out of its economic woes by viciously devaluing its economy, dumping hundreds of millions of Deutsche Marks at France's door to call it square for WWI and then elected a peasant ex-corporal with artistic aspirations who then promptly re-armed and started WWII.

Both were products of casting a charismatic figure in an almost unheard of light of "can do no wrong".

It's going to be heart breaking if Obama gets elected and he doesn't turn out to be our nation's Prince Charming.

It has been heart breaking to see Monkey Boy, who was treated as if he could do no wrong by the reich wing, destroy this country in 8 short years. So, we have already witnessed the results of placing too much faith in a demagogue (remember, he had political capital and such).

This is what the neocons do best, project their own failings onto their enemies to distract the dimwitted. Unfortunately, our country is overrun with dimwits, many posting in this very thread.

I assume Hitler at least knew the difference between a profit and a profit margin, unlike the Obamassiah. His "windfall profits" tax on oil companies idea proves he's a farking idiot.

/Remember folks... he has virtually NO experience. He spent 142 days in the Senate before he went into full campaign mode.

2008-07-24 03:34:38 PM
I think the Obama = Hitler meme must be the funniest political attack I've heard in years. I guess it lives up to 'attack them on their strength' - in this instance, popularity.

STEIN: I want -- I'm glad you brought up this Denver thing. I don't like the idea of Senator Obama giving his acceptance speech in front of 75,000 wildly cheering people. That is not the way we do things in political parties in the United States of America. We have a contained number of people in an arena. Seventy-five-thousand people at an outdoor sports palace, well, that's something the Fuehrer would have done. And I think whoever is advising Senator Obama to do this is bringing up all kinds of very unfortunate images from the past.

Reality:
The term New Frontier was used by John F. Kennedy in his acceptance speech in the 1960 United States presidential election to the Democratic National Convention at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as the Democratic nominee.

Republicans don't just make stupid arguments. Their stupid arguments are also usually wrong.

2008-07-24 03:34:54 PM
Stay classy, Ben Stein!

2008-07-24 03:35:30 PM
keylock71: ...or the pope.

DINGDINGDING! Everyone has their figurehead of choice. And I've gotta say, among the Pope, Hitler and Obama, only one has not actively promoted discrimination.

On a side note, why does anyone care what Ben Stein says about anything? He seems to be operating under the delusion that he has some value to society beyond promoting eyedrops and creationism, and it's our duty as a nation to straighten him out. When was the last time thousands of people turned out to listen to him speak?

Joe Paterno coaches football in front of 110,000 people which makes him like, SUPER HITLER!

That don't make him Hitler. Or Mr. Rooney.

Iwouldhitit: I can't keep it straight--is Obama a secret Muslim terrorist, a radical afro-centric Christian, an expropriating and bloodthirsty communist, a cult of personality fascist, or an effete chardonnay-sipping elitist?

Fark is here to help!

Obama is a self-loathing ex-muslim terrorist turned radical afro-centric Christian who is planning to lead a nazi-like legion of elitist communists who will turn this country in a to a nation of latte drinking, french loving defeatists with delusions of grandeur.

Of course tomorrow I will have to update that with the new GOP charges. Stay tuned.

Ben Stein is merely an ass.

2008-07-24 03:36:05 PM
Yes by all means let's not have a man who wants to be the leader of over 300 million Americans not speak to over 10 thousand people who can be easily accommodated in any hall. Because Hitler, who came to up on the beer hall circuit, was evil before he talk to a a lot of people. Sheesh, Ben Stein is now dead to me.

As a republican I am actually frighten of the sheer terror many of my kind are consumed with because of Obama. Seriously after the President we have had to endure (and I voted for twice) this country deserves a better conversation than this nonsense

Now, now, Nixon was a competent president. A horrible person, maybe, but he did do a good job while in office.

Stein, on the other hand, is a mediocre supporting-role actor who spun his one appearance on Ferris Beuller's Day Off into a long and boring career, bolstered by political connections (via his wealthy old-money family, IIRC). He's resorted to endorsing creationism and Republicans solely for the shock value. He's trying to manufacture controversy so that Hollywood will at least recognize his name, even if they don't remember him. He's no different from Southpark or Howard Stern, and his opinion carries about the same weight.

The same shiat was flying from the left when Bush threw out the first pitch in Yankee stadium after 911.

Obama is more like Peter Frampton than Hitler.

hubiestubert: This being said, the GOP is scared witless of this candidate, and as a Conservative, I'm glad. I'm hoping that it will shake some of the bastiches out of the trees, and real Conservatives can take back the party, as opposed to the Rah Rah Boyz who think that politics is a winnable game, as opposed to ways of solving problems, and dealing with the consequences. Thoughtful men and women who are looking at the long term, and who aren't so concerned with "winning" as the principles that this country was based on, and the people that they serve.

You knocked it out of the park.

The parties are so guided by ulterior motives that there's nothing left -- the issues that need to be addressed have faded into irrelevance, and all that's left is to win the day.

It is funny that after 8 years of hearing whiny morons complain about Bush being Hitler, we are now seeing those same people fawning over someone who actually has the demeaner, ego, and evanglistic rhetorical qualities of Hitler. Good stuff.
