(Daily Mail)   The Christian Bale "assault" on his mom and sister? He just yelled at them after his sister asked him for $200 grand to "help raise her children" and he turned her down. The heartless bastard   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line 309

Maybe, if just ONCE I had been treated with a little of that decency and kindness that women are alleged to possess, things would have been different. But, if being required to: buy cocaine for them, let them get falling down drunk every time we go somewhere, co-sign loans for them and having them walk a few months later (and quit paying on the loan), let them sleep with my freinds and brother and swipe money out of my wallet is the normal and accepted way to maintain a relationship I don't want any part of it.

Have yet to meet a woman who isn't a materialistic, whiny selfish jerk who isn't already married. A mans tolerance for asshole behavior only goes so far. I let it go far enough as it is.

Dude it isn't women, you are just a push over wuss. I have a feeling if you were a chick men would be doing the same exact thing to you. If you let a women (or a series of women) do that to you how can you expect them to respect you? Not trying to be mean but sheesh. Google David Deangelo, he gives pretty good advice and will help you recognize certain "red flags" to where you can bail before stuff like that happens. I am not being a smart ass, I am actually trying to help. I was never in your situation but confused enough to where that stuff helped me out when I needed it and maybe it can help you too.

Good luck (seriously)

I'm getting a kick out of all of the people using currency converters here. The fact is that using the dollar-pound conversion rate of the moment isn't going to give you any kind of picture of what the house is worth in local terms. It tells you what YOU would pay for it, but that doesn't do anything to place it in the context of the local economy.

It's a bit like saying "I own a 2000 square foot house built in 1995" and using that information as a basis for pricing without taking into account that the price of a house with those characteristics is going to vary a great deal depending on whether it's in Omaha or Miami.

Actually, I think it's the poster of this little crabby rant. I think he's the problem. What self-aware man would allow himself to get involved more than a week with a coke sniffing alcoholic money stealing woman? I think you need to surround yourself with better people and get a backbone.
If that is all you've seen, that's all you know - but blanket statements are a really weak argument.

Oh, and I would ask Mr. Bale for $200,000 just to have him slap me around the a little while. Mmmmmmmmm......been hot for that man since I first saw Newsies when I was 13. Yum.

I dunno, if I had as much money as he does, I'd probably have already set my family up well without them asking. It may be a little douchey to ask, but unless this is just the most recent of a number of times they've asked for money, he's a little bit of a douche himself.

Don't know if this has already been said.. but giving money to people who aren't smart about money actually does MORE harm than good in the long run.

Why is it that something like 80% of lottery winners are back to where they started within 10 years of winning the lottry (irregardless of weither they won 3 million or 300 million)?

It's because if they were smart with money.. they wouldn't be spending 20 dollars a week on lottry tickets. So one in 50 million people get lucky once in a while and win and suddenly have more money than they ever would have otherwise.. and the instantly know how to invest and hold onto it?

It's also the failing of welfare and any other handouts. Human nature is why work if someone's giving you something for free?

I have a sister-in-law who is horrible with money. I would never in a million years loan or give her money under 99.99% of most circumstances. If I did.. it wouldn't teach her anything.

THE ONLY circumstance I would loan money to family or friends is if they had a huge run of circumstances that they couldn't control. IE.. lost job, followed by house burning down, followed by car accident and $50,000 worth of hospital bills.. then certainly.. I would help them out. But I wouldn't give them a loan.. I would just consider the money a gift and if they pay me back someday great.. if not.. so be it. If they are supposed to pay you back (and they most likely never will) it will be a constant source of friction.. so just consider it a gift.

Things like this is why money (lots of it) can sometimes be more of a curse than a blessing.

djmaverick: £100,000 "to help her raise her children?" What is going on here? Why do these people suddenly find a need for Gucci prams and diamond studded pacifiers once they think they can squeeze it out of somebody? How about if I called myself a masculinist that wanted equality (for men)? Or formed NOM (National Organization for Men), which favors (sides with) mens' rights in child custody or support and domestic situations? I would be called sexist and a misogynist based on the label alone. Tell me honestly that wouldn't happen.

Not sure where you've been living but there is no need to do this. The law (in fact the culture in general) is already heavily slanted in men's favour. Feminists are just trying to slide the scale back to middle which is exactly why men biatch about it. In order to create equality that means that men must give up the dominant position where all benefits accrue to them. Oh, and I'll call you a misogynist because clearly that's what you are. If you helped to create a child you are responsible for it too. No negotiation.

SaltyDonnie:
I am for equality between the sexes, but that means that neither gender gets a presumption in any issue, legal or otherwise. If I as a man went into family court with a Judge that was an admitted feminist, I'd be seriously concerned.

No, I don't think you are. You want to have things go your way every time and when they occasionally don't, you like to complain that women are winning unfairly due to bias.

Well maybe if you ditched these women the minute they turned out to be greedy shallow whores instead of allowing them to walk all over you you'd be able to find a decent one.

Stop blaming my entire gender for the fact that you're too much of a doormat to break away from a toxic relationship. Learn a little self-respect, stand up for yourself, and stop putting up with horseshiat. Learn to say no and walk away and maybe you'll be happy. You're better of alone than with a coont, thats for sure.

ami5000 - Didn't Bale admit that a few years ago he almost went bankrupt and wasn't working enough to support his own family? He's probably playing it safe with his money now and giving money to family members is always a poor investment.

Yes, he did. He let it slip in an interview that back in 2003, he had to foreclose on his house. That was one of the darkest times of his life.

Now, if the guy is smart, which strikes me that he is, during this current time of plenty, he's not going to be throwing around his money. Batman money isn't going to last forever. Who knows what the future may hold. And if, heaven forbids, his roles dry up after this and the Terminator franchise, he will still have a nice nest egg to fall on.

That is, unless his family doesn't bleed him dry.

His family asked for 200 grand THIS TIME. We have no idea how much they have asked for in the past.

Bale has own future and family to think about.

And you can tell things are not good in the family, when your mom and sister just crash your hotel room to ask for a large sum of money out of the blue. Rather than asking Bale to come to their house, have some tea and discuss money issues.

Oh don't worry - it's a constant struggle. And I don't see it stopping anytime soon. I just could never see myself being okay with someone constantly buying things for my kids. That would pretty much drive me nuts. It's a different mentality though.

And that sucks...But yeah, that "Ahhh...nevermind" probably came in at a good point in that statement. :)

When the story first broke, it didn't make a lot of sense. I thought it was a little fishy that his sister & mother went to the police station to file the complaint. If you truly were assaulted, wouldn't you call 999 and have the police come to you? If nothing else, the bobbies could get potential witnesses from the neighboring hotel rooms.

Now to find out it was just an argument over money & how they don't like his wife? Makes much more sense.

mekki: His family asked for 200 grand THIS TIME. We have no idea how much they have asked for in the past.

Or in the future if he had caved and gave them the $200k. You know, the whole "If you give a mouse a cookie..." syndrome.

Supposedly, he's been estranged from his mother and sister for a while now, and the other day, they showed up at his hotel, intoxicated, and wanted the desk clerk to let them into Mr. Bale's room. Clerk said no, so they waited for Mr. Bale to return. When he came back, there was a verbal argument, one of the women shoved him, he moved her out of the way and went to his room. Since they didn't get their way, they went to the cops and claimed he verbally assaulted them. Mr. Bale went to the police voluntarily and gave his side of the story. No arrest, no charges. So, it sounds like white-trash family coming out of the woodwork trying to get money he said no because he knew they'd piss it all way and come back asking for more money.

hockeychick: Me too. Sorry for the rant. I just get really peeved at people who sit around and expect their every wish to be granted because they are female/male/white/black/purple with pink polka dots/ect. I worked my arse off to gain respect in my field (all 1200 acres of it). You just kinda came off like one of the uber-feminists, or at least I read it that way.

Glad to hear you work in IT. That's a tough world for women. Hubby is a network engineer and actually prefers working with women. Says they have a greater understanding of the big picture and not their small part of it.

No worries at all and thanks for the compliment from your hubby. :-) BTW, I happen to agree with you about people who expect preferential treatment based on an arbitrarily defined (and therefore uncontrollable) "difference". I just include men in there - lol!

I also have worked very hard all my life - I put myself through university then went back to upgrade and I'm the primary wage earner in my family. I have also almost always been the only woman in the room. And from my experience, I have found that people work best and are at their best when both genders are present.

And, SaltyDonnie, I find it hard to believe that you are a lawyer when you say things like :
You[r] worldview is that things are biased for men. While that was certainly true years back, and still is today in certain areas and to some degree, it does not justify tilting the law any direction.

Yes, it does when, for example, a man cannot be charged with rape if the victim is his wife. Sadly Canada had to wait until 1983 for this to be considered a crime.

The law applies to everyone equally. You don't get to screw men over as reparations/payback. Where is the "middle" you seek to reach and when would you realize you past it, and now the issue favors women? Would YOU scale back, or keep going? Would you realize it if it happened?

I'm surprised that you think that changes to laws are specifically designed to "screw men over". Laws evolve over time to reflect the changes in attitudes of the people whose behaviour they are meant to control. Naturally as more women become a part of the system overtly sexist and discriminatory laws are set aside.

Does that apply to decision making in abortion? If I can't walk away from my child (and I wouldn't) "you" can't either. Men don't get two bites at the apple like women get. (Choice to have sex and choice to abort). One spill and we're obligated.

Well, I would hate to seem reasonable in your eyes but that is a question for which I have no ready answer. Sometimes I feel that the father should have some say and other times I don't. I'm sorry to say but men have a long history of scampering once things get serious where for a woman it's a lifetime commitment to that child. There's only a short window of opportunity to abort and it's a life-altering decision regardless of which decision is made.

As for taking this personally ... well, I point to the familiar meme about arguing on the internets and the Special Olympics. So, I declare I am a feminist and will be one to the day I die and nothing typed on a webpage is going to change that. :-)

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility.

Well, I'm sure if asking nicely for $200K didn't work then maybe having him arrested will convince him. Seriously, WTF?
