Just another part of the bike you have to worry about failing.

2008-07-23 12:44:34 PM
So, there are tons of these kinds of things already, built with after-market parts. So now HD is selling one. Sounds like they saw a market.

buy a convertible. save your dignity.

2008-07-23 12:44:51 PM
H-D just got tired of aftermarket folks like Lehman Trikes making money converting Harleys to trikes.

2008-07-23 12:44:58 PM
Is Hot Wheels going to come out with a line of matching accessories?

So they are copycats. There have been conversion kits out to make motorcycles, Harleys included, into trikes for years.

I own a Harley Davidson XLCH so I'm getting a kick out of this.

/no trike for me, thanks.

Eew .. as if being a harley and a cruiser wasnt bad enough ...

The day I have to ride a trike is the EOTWAIKI.

2008-07-23 12:47:12 PM
If a trike aint running off a VW engine with a keg for a gas tank, then you have some sort of three wheeled yuppie mobile.

2008-07-23 12:47:13 PM
It's got three wheels for those of you scared of falling on your bike.

And these Mother Farkers should not be driving a motorcycle.

It's like people who drive Volvo's. They is scared of crashing, so they try to up their chances at surviving after taking out 3 other cars, while changing 2 lanes in a tunnel.

/Never fallen off a Motorcycle.
//And drive motorcycles that you sit on and not dry hump the gas tank.

2008-07-23 12:47:22 PM
Trikes are the biggest fail known to mankind. If you can't handle riding on two wheels, don't buy a motorcycle. I hear Toys R Us is offering good financing options on Big Wheels.

Death to garbage wagons.

2008-07-23 12:47:33 PM
I'm going to start a company that will convert these to 2-wheelers.

FTFA: It's got three wheels for those of you scared of falling on your bike.

Ten years ago I wouldn't have been scared, but with three kids depending on me to stay alive I am now. Not sure I'd ride into Sturgis with this thing, but I'd definitely ride it around town. Guess I'm their demo.

I came in here to post this. Well done.

If you're going to have a motorized tricycle, might as well design it so it can actually go around turns.

decalpro.ca

What? Hes helping her on the bike after she fell off again. What did you think?

2008-07-23 12:49:11 PM
+1 on the Can Am spyder. The attraction I see in a machine like that is extending the riding season to nearly year round. I ride until Dec/Jan, then road conditions switch me back to the cage. The Spyder with its 3 tires, with a closure tread and contact pattern to a car I think could make it year round. also, this beast, I think called the TriRod looks promising, if expensive and they need a bigger engine

2008-07-23 12:49:44 PM
Harley did in fact see the market for Trikes, hence why the 2009 model has been released. In actuality, to buy a trike from HD is less expensive than buying a bike and converting to a trike. I also seem to recall, it was due to customer requests.

And since I ride a Harley, i'm getting a real kick out of the Harley bashing.

cochranb: Aren't those kinda unstable in turns? Isn't that why they stopped selling 3 wheeled ATVs in the 80's?

Modern ones use a limited-slip differential, so now they corner better.

You still have to "steer" them, though...meaning, you just can't turn by leaning, making it a bit counter-intuitive for long-time bike riders, but maybe easier for the quad-runner crowd.

No offense to either of you, but what does the type of motorcycle you ride and the fact that you've never laid one down have to do with anything? Honest question, no snark.

cochranb: Aren't those kinda unstable in turns? Isn't that why they stopped selling 3 wheeled ATVs in the 80's?

exactly- the tri-wheel design with one in front is a lot easier and more comfortable for long distance *straight* travel for older people.

2008-07-23 12:57:10 PM
bearded clamorer: But does it come factory equipped with loud pipes (to save lives)?

So those cocksuckers that ride bikes with loud pipes, so loud that the rider must wear earplugs to drive the damn thing, really think they save lives? They make me WANT to hit the bike and knock that rider into the path of a speeding semi.
If those coonts need earplugs to ride the bike, then don't they think that the other people around them might need ear protection? No, they don't think about that.

I hate you loud pipe douche bags, be it a motorcycle or an import car.

/yes, i do drive a Honda

I live in Boston, infamous for being one of the worst places to ride, yet everyone and his brother seems to ride a Harley around here. Yuppies, townies, women. If Harley is that mainstream, what's the point of buying a Harley? Their brand has lost all meaning. Am right? I said am I right?!
