Get rid of commercials... save the planet.

I'll support anyone or anything with the aim of reducing mental rape advertising.

I like commercials. They get old after lots of repetition, but on a second-by-second basis, there is no other area of entertainment where the creativity and the dollars are nearly as dense.

It's when I have to see that Toyota ad with the woman spraying the salesman in the face with mace for the 300th time in 18 months that makes Nikolai wanna kill a biatch.

Quiet, the commercial is on... if we don't watch these, it's like we're stealing TV!

Adman12: I am contractually obligated to appear in this thread, to act as a lightning rod for the ad-hate.

I don't hate ads. I hate being lied to and I hate being spoken down to and I hate being tracked on the Internet.

I know what a commercial is; it's where they yell stuff on the radio.

What's "TV"?

Of course, this assumes that if all those people were not watching tv, they would be crouched into little balls; not breathing, not consuming anything, not killing the planet with their filthy, selfish existence.

Il Douchey: Of course, this assumes that if all those people were not watching tv, they would be crouched into little balls; not breathing, not consuming anything, not killing the planet with their filthy, selfish existence.

Before that, they assume that if the station wasn't showing a commercial the TV would be off for that 30s.

I assumed TFA would be something along the lines of "commercials encourage unneeded consumption, which leads to carbon emissions" which would at least have a point, although you'd have to ask the "sure, but why single out that one tiny piece of the system?" question.

But this is even stranger.

The fearmongers natter and prattle
'Bout the latest environment battle.
I can't be concerned
Of the new things they've learned,
While I still fear the farts of the cattle.

itazurakko: Before that, they assume that if the station wasn't showing a commercial the TV would be off for that 30s.

Considering I can get through an hour-long program in 40 minutes if I skip the commercials, I'd say that's a fairly accurate assumption. And I usually do have the TV off if I'm not

I just wish commercials could be more targeted. There is no reason for me to sit through 4mins of commercials if it goes:

tampon ad
minivan ad
American idol ad
valtrex ad
refinance loan ad

etc... I don't need any of that shiat

I dislike the stupidity of commercials. Commercials are in part why I love my Tivo so much and why you will have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

I actually have four Tivos in my house right now. Two are "live" and two are sitting in the closet collecting dust. Anyone want to buy a pair of last-gen Tivos?

If only there was some way they could get their message out to people about this. Perhaps buying air time in small quantities or space in a periodical...

Even shows you'd think would be more targeted don't have any ads I want to watch. I mean, how many people who watch BSG or MythBusters or Top Gear need Activia yogurt? Or

Thats because you were watching a football game. If you want commercials for beer and trucks, watch Oprah.

\agrees that sometimes it appears advertisers don't pay attention to the channel\show\surrounding ads

Ok, this is what I do: when a commercial comes on, I mute the TV, and I turn away from looking at the screen. Look at the floor, the wall, the person you are with, anything but the TV.

You have a choice to watch commercials or not. I choose not.

Cool, next I hope they tackle satellite radio ads.

I've discovered an odd pet peeve of mine - when radio ads repeat their phone number a grotesque number of times at the end of each commercial.

My friend's stepdad does this. Then he announces for the 100th time he can't stand commercials and mutes them.

If it wasn't for his amazing cottage and speedboat...I would be inclined to not visit :P

Ha ha. This is what happens when the media adopts a crackpot theory. My question for this Media Outlet is: What is the carbon footprint of the reporting on this carbon footprint? How many extra server farms are being drafted into action?

And of course, we must consider the damage we are doing when we discuss carbon via an electronic media such as the internet --- some may argue that we are only burning more fossil fuels when we talk about others' consumption of fossil fuels.

But luckily for me, I believe in my own spooky religion: The carbon footprint of this post is insignificant compared to the power of the force.

Only problem is the set is now covered with my crap and I can't make things out too well anymore.
