That's a coincidence, because the guy who directed Jar-Jar is starting to look like a cvnt.
2002-12-09 09:28:58 AM
I didn't know Rhea Perlman directed LOTR...
2002-12-09 10:45:06 AM
But why is Lucas' neck getting so fat?
2002-12-09 10:46:38 AM
No pic... AGAIN? Figures...
2002-12-09 10:49:03 AM
Yeah, Lucas is starting to look like Jabba the Hutt...
2002-12-09 10:49:51 AM
If he's so sad to stop making Tolkien films, he could always bring The Hobbit to the big screen. I wouldn't mind...

By the time "Return of the King" comes out--he'll have lots of extra footage for a massive DVD release of "The Lord of the Rings".

What's the Academy's posistion on this type of thing could such a DVD be considered for best picture if you consider the theatical releases as works in progress?
2002-12-09 10:54:55 AM
i dunno, all i got was a picture of geoffery the giraffe in a toys 'r' us ad . . . i thought hobbits looked more like little people.
2002-12-09 10:55:44 AM
just got the 4 disc DVD set of Fellowship for my birthday (I'm 39!!!) -- spent the weekend watching it - with new and extended scenes, and with cast commentary...damn fine film making...damn fine...
2002-12-09 11:01:08 AM
somebody please post the "requiem of the rings" music they play in the new trailers. it used to be downloadable but all those sites have stopped hosting it. I just want to hear it since the requiem for a dream guy didn't release it on that req dream remix project.

I liked the extended version of the first movie better, too. It set things up a lot better.
2002-12-09 11:06:39 AM
That's what I say - if they shot the footage, then print that good stuff up. I missed everything they left out from the book...and resented the add-ons a bit.

i agree, though i am worried that there maybe more alterations for a final dvd release in two years... i hate buying the same movie more than once... i just hope they use the same box layout, so all the dvds look nifty on my shelf... how's that for shallow?
2002-12-09 11:08:37 AM
How is he a dead ringer for a hobbit when he has a beard? Everyone knows hobbits can't grow beards! Sheesh.

ABCNews really needs to have a dork brigade go over its stories before they post them. Any geek would have spotted that.

Werkbot problem is, the average joe would not sit in the theatre for 3½ hours
2002-12-09 11:10:36 AM
Why would someone publish this article with no picture?
2002-12-09 11:11:35 AM

Oh, and Peter Jackson has ALWAYS looked like that.. and keep an eye out for his second cameo..
2002-12-09 11:14:10 AM
Don't talk about the Two Towers. Rudezombie you lucky bastard. I want to see that movie so bed. Did anyone see the WB preview of it last week? I looks awesome.

Nah, Jackson more resembles a dwarf than a hobbit.

According to the commentary on the extended FOTR, he has the large mock-up set of Bag End in storage and is looking for a suitable hill to install it in. Wants to use it as a vacation home. So, he'll be a dwarf who LIVES like a hobbit.

Damn creative genius, though.

Verdant - the average Joe can suck it. Gimme my EPIC!
2002-12-09 11:22:41 AM
How did you get a copy of it?
2002-12-09 11:24:34 AM
Don't talk about the movie.... It's not like you didn't read the book, twice.
2002-12-09 11:26:06 AM
As long as he holds it together for 1 more year, that's all I ask. He can go Howard Hughes after that, I don't care..
2002-12-09 11:29:48 AM
A friend of a friend works for New Line.. and they were holding a screening in Manhattan last week.
2002-12-09 11:32:47 AM

I think he looks more like the result of some dwarf/hobbit cross breading program.
2002-12-09 11:33:32 AM
"No 'Two Towers' talk?"
Tigerzdad, please STFU!

Journalism Tip:

If the entire point of your story is that X is starting to look like Y, and thus the story is about appearance, then it is probably best to INCLUDE A PHOTO.

"Ultimately, I am spending seven years of my life on the project. But each film is different from the one before, and that keeps you fresh," he said.

Yeah, . . . that and the billion dollars he'll make by the time those seven years are up.

Right, Indenture

Make that two billion.
2002-12-09 11:48:08 AM
Nah, he looks more dwarvish than anything.
2002-12-09 11:49:49 AM
Heh..Indenture--the sad thing is, I would probably buy that too.
2002-12-09 11:50:25 AM
An extra two hours of unseen footage in FoTR?

If said footage includes Bombadil, Radagast, and more, I'd start saving...

2002-12-09 11:51:43 AM
the sad thing is, I would probably buy that too.

Yep, me too... $1800 would be a little steep though. How about $180?
2002-12-09 11:53:11 AM
Bought the extended DVD a couple of weeks. Finely got the baby to sleep long enought this weekend to watch it. The extra scenes are good, but where the hell is Tom Bombadilo?
2002-12-09 11:56:16 AM
From a story point of view, Jackson took a lot of unnecessary and unwarranted liberties with the themes, elves, orcs and major characters of the trilogy. Especially wrong was his erradication of the mentor/student relationship between Elrond and Aaragorn. Gandalf's dignity and strength is watered down and the orcs are just plain silly.

But he did such an amazing job creating the correct look and feel of Tolkein's world that I can't deny he's achieved a noteworthy accomplishment.
2002-12-09 11:56:25 AM
caiteach they took him out.
2002-12-09 11:57:57 AM
Yep, at the end of the third movie, upon DVD release...

GurneyHalleck i am going to stick up for pj here... i watched the director's commentary, and a lot of that was addressed, they did most things for brevity and fluidity, but also to keep joe schmuck interested
2002-12-09 12:00:13 PM
bombadil was a mystery even to tolkein, and he had even admitted him as being slightly unnessecary, he really has nothing to do with the story... (as it is also mentioned in the books.) so when you have a gianormous book to make a movie out of, what do you think goes first?
2002-12-09 12:16:30 PM
At least he isn't starting to look like characters from his other movies:

I never expected to see him in theatre version, but I had held some small hope that they would throw a sceen in the extended DVD since Bombadil is popular with the fans of the series.
2002-12-09 12:25:49 PM
I think the director is doing a great job, considering necessary restraints.

Ideally the series would be broken up into six two hour movies, but that wouldn't work commercially at all.
2002-12-09 12:32:59 PM
i am pretty sure the only reason he is so "popular" is because he mysteriously doesn't fit within the lotr universe
